About App Picker Classic

Don't like the app picker interface in Jelly Bean? Have you installed multiple browsers or other "duplicate" apps and want to be able to choose which one to run each time, with just one tap? Tired of having to tap two times to start your third party apps? App Picker Classic solves that problem by creating a UI similar to the one in ICS where you only have to tap once to select the preferred application.

Works with the following intents:
1. Web links
2. Mailto links
3. Images, videos and audio
4. Sms and mms
5. Launcher
6. Word/Excel/PowerPoint
7. PDF-documents
8. Chooser/share
9. Contacts

In addition, the app resolves some common short URLs like t.co, bit.ly and goo.gl, taking you directly to the app of your choice, for instance Instagram, Google Play or YouTube. Fallback to native app picker if you haven't picked a default yet.

If you have app choices that are currently hidden - maybe you chose "Always" by accident once, but you'd like to be able to reinstate the app and choose each time - then reset these by clearing the defaults in the application manager of your phone/tablet.

Please send me an email if you have any ideas how to improve the app. Big thanks for all the feedback received so far!

What does it do more than three default service? In fact it's even worse before it's a fixed order.

Was having problems with last update where I could no longer select to open files with an app "just once". Installed this to give it a go and it works for my needs. Doesn't alway have all the programs for a certain file type but it covers the main things that frustrated me daily. Found by web search and hopefully this review will encourage anyone having this problem to give this older app a try as it still works.

Works well in Nougat so far. Only downloaded because S7 is silly enough to default your last option which is silly. Would give five stars if it were updated to look more modern ;-)

OK, so I offered myself a little Christmas gift & spent the night debugging the app to find why it would throw "No app found for [..]" since Android M came out. It turns out, the behaviour of PackageManager.queryIntentActivities() was slightly changed; before Android M, calling it with an intent for which no default app/activity was assigned, along with the flag MATCH_DEFAULT_ONLY, it would (as a fallback, since otherwise there's no match) return the list of *all* activities handling such intent. Now, it actually behaves the way it should by *always* returning the default activity handling the intent, so if none has been chosen yet, the list is empty. One must therefore call queryIntentActivities() with the flag MATCH_ALL instead of MATCH_DEFAULT_ONLY if one expects to obtain the list of activities handling the passed intent even if no default one has been set yet. TL;DR If the dev is still around, he could recompile the app with that slight change to the queryIntentActivities() call to make it work again.

I'm running Android KitKat 4.4.2 and I can't find any way to upload files other than photos and videos to the web. By this app, I can upload anything to the web via a file manager. It has one bug though: The apps popup menu shows 3 extra options (Camera, camcorder and sound recorder) when pressed, opens the 3rd app below the option. That also implies that the app crashes if I select the last three options probably due to an out of bounds error. Other than that, this app is a lifesaver!

When I open a link with this "just once", it opens. But once I set it as default ("always") it says no apps are available. The clear defaults button doesn't work. Also would appreciate an icon view option--I have many apps capable of opening links, but only use a few.

this is a real life saver! saves me so much hassle clearing default every time i need to open something through a diff app.. they should really fix that, though the update might take a little longer to come and all.. thanks for sharing this app! although hey! you should add themes too!

After upgrading to the Galaxy S7 edge from the S5 I was so frustrated that the 'Always' / 'Once only' choice had disappeared, and I spent lots of time going to Application settings to remove or change defaults. App Picker does the job perfectly. Thanks dev.!

App was perfect, but after marshmallow update, the browser option is broken and says no app found for intent. Seems to work with other options such as email apps though.

I needed a different share menu for YouTube because for some reason it would force close everytime I tried to share a video and started scrolling down the built in share menu. So I installed this app, now I can share from YouTube with no problems :) BTW I'm on Marshmallow

Galaxy Note 5 here. I used to love this app, but it stopped working after the Marshmallow update.

This is a very useful app, I love it . Marshmallow is nonsense as you no longer get the option to select always or once when choosing an app. Google and samsung have dropped the ball where this is concerned

Hi there, I am a web consultant for a major magazine and URL company.Unbeknowst to Adam of course .I'm to go into these websites as a consultant, consumer or agent. Well I did so yesterday and I email to Adam letting him know I have spent many an hour trying to find the perfect app picker. That I had chosen his application because it was fantastic and then asked him how to access it. I've not heard a word. Does anyone out there know how to get past the first page? The one telling you that you have to click , "always. Thank you!

... and useful. Just like the best stuff in life. And Lollipop's 'white everywhere' is not my thing. So the dark theme alone is priceless... But I'm recently experiencing a bug in Whatsapp. When tapping your app choice in "app picker" it opens a different app. It's only happening in Whatsapp...

And with Strava it doesn't let me choose, it just goes to Gmail. I will revisit this review if I get feedback from dev.

But can you add other design for the picker? The samsung (or maybe google, iam not sure) default apps chooser design kinda good

I70%

This app fixed the annoying and stupid Samsung galaxy s6 management of defaults apps. Sometimes you want to be asked with app to use, but Samsung doesn't allow you choose everytime. You must select the first time and then that will be the default app always. That is stupid. You are the person who have to decide is you want that always or just one time. This app fixed that and there is no invasives permissions.Thank you developer. If you create a paid version I would buy it to support.

This app is a lifesaver....I was getting so tired of the Note 5 constantly setting defaults every time I chose an app. Maybe one day Android will go back to being able to select "Always" or "This Time Only", and have it actually work correctly. In the meantime, App Picker Classic does the job.

N70%

No choice to make a specific app Default. Also an issue when opening a phone number from the browser, it keeps popping up asking to choose between App picker(?) and Phone in the original JB/Kit Kat UI.
