About Dash for Google Voice

Show notifications from Google Voice on the popular DashClock widget!

Features:
- Displays new message counts (minimized view)
- Displays last received message (expanded view)
- Updates instantly when new notification arrives
- Tap to launch official Google Voice app

Note:
The accessibility service might be turned off after the last update. If you still use that service, remember to turn it back on.
This extension requires the DashClock Widget:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nurik.roman.dashclock
and the official Google Voice app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.googlevoice
from Google to work properly.

FAQ:
Q. Why is it not showing anything on the widget?
A. Make sure the accessibility service for this extension is enabled under Settings -> Accessibility, or Notification Listener Service is turned on if you're on Android 4.3 or above.
Q. It doesn't show my existing unread messages!
A. This extension does not have access to notifications received before it is set up. Any new notifications after it is set up should be captured properly.
Q. Is my personal data safe?
A. No personal data is captured and transmitted for any purposes.
Q. Why does it require an accessibility service?
A. Without an official API for Google Voice, accessibility service is the best way to monitor notifications while still within Android's boundary. Personal data is not collected and transmitted for any purposes.
Q. It always show zero received messages even when I have some new messages.
A. Make sure the notification setting is turned on in the Google Voice app. If you have other similar accessibility services turned on, there could be a conflict between services as well.
Q. I don't see any voicemails.
A. Voicemail is currently not fully supported. Expect flakiness.
Q. (Android 4.3+) How do I use the new notification listener service?
A. The new service can be turned on via the shortcut in the extension settings, or from Settings -> Security -> Notification access.
Q. (Android 4.3+) Can I activate both the accessibility service and the notification listener service?
A. Theoretically, yes. I tried to handle as many scenarios as I could, but it is always possible that I missed something. For best results, use one or the other.

What's Changed
v1.0
- (Android 4.3+ only) Added notification listener service for monitoring messages. This is the Google-suggested method and is strongly recommended. Make sure to turn off the old accessibility service as well.
- Fix Settings shortcut inside extension settings. The shortcut now directly goes to accessibility service settings. This should hopefully fix the crashes due to inconsistency between different devices.
- Other bug fixes and improvements.

Once installed, hard to get rid of.

When I get a message, all it displays is the amount of messages. It doesn't show whom it's from. It would read "1 from: [blank]." Sucks. This ext hasn't been updated in over three years.

Downloaded it and it did not work on my Note 4!

So unlike the rest of the people who did not read the descriptipn, I actually understand the purpose is for messages and not voicemail. With that said, I still can't get the darn thing to work. I downloaded Dash Clock which is working fine, but it's not showing message count when new Google Voice messages arrive (like in your screen shot examples). If we get this puppy to work, I'll give more stars.

As far as I can tell, this app does a fine job of replicating the notification bar, but doesn't show unread messages. When I have a new message come in, the app shows one unread message, but if I dismiss the notification from the top bar, it also dismisses then unread message count from the widget. I was hoping the widget would actually show an accurate count of new unread messages. Also, this doesn't show up in my list of apps where I can manage data and permissable.

I agree with Scott... "Received messages" sounds like voicemail messages to me. 2 stars for yelling at him while proving his point.

You understand that many people use Google VOICE for voicemail right? Make it clearer in your description that this only works for TEXT messages through Google Voice. You will save lots of people time and frustration.

M70%

It shows an unread message from last weeks thread even though I have been continuously reading and replying. I barely noticed yesterday. Both on Nexus 7.2 and Galaxy Nexus VZW Edit: actually, from reading other reviews I forgot to check accessibility, it turned itself off so I switched it back on and eureka it works again.

N70%
by N####:

Occasionally this will actually work, but usually it just shows that there aren't any new messages when there definitely are.

N70%
by N####:

..but not with the latest update. Cannot get it stop showing number of unread messages (when in fact there are none) when switching on new notification option and turning off accessibility).

L70%
by L####:

Had to read in another review that there's no support for voicemail, the reason I got it.

U70%
by U####:

I don't want to give this a low rating because it seems to work for other people, but this app is not display any notifications from Google Voice on my Nexus 7. Yes, I have Google Voice installed, and it does send notifications to the notification shade.
