Have tablet with Verizon Messages+. No direct text widget. Because tablet OS. This worked great for a little while then direct message widget just opens Messages but doesn't open the correct conversation. I was just about ready to purchase the pro version too. Really wanted it to work too! Would have solved problem for 82 yr old father.

It's got a lot of customization -- I'm still trying to figure out what the button that rotates the phone and message buttons does... Is that all it does? Why?

Pretty much just what I needed to help set up phone for elderly parents. Unfortunately, the phone (Otium 2015 flip phone) has a launcher which has fixed grid size (4x5) and does not allow resizing of widgets. Thus, the normal contacts are too small for them to recognize who the contact is. (Yes, I could use a different launcher but then I lose the ability on the home screen for a keypress on the flip phone to be sent to the dialer.) This allows a great flexibility in widget sizes including 2x2 which is perfect. Will have to look at the paid version to help support the devs.
