Shetland Pony is a universal breed of horses, widely distributed throughout the world. It is one of the most numerous horse breeds in general and the most popular among the ponies.
The look of the Shetland Pony is familiar to everyone, because it has become a symbol of all the little horses, but few know that this is one of the oldest breeds of horses, and besides, it is not decorative, but quite workable.
The origin of this breed is the Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland. Horses on these islands lived already in the second millennium BC, as the islands were relatively isolated from the continent, we can assume that these horses were the direct ancestors of modern ponies.
A distinctive feature of Shetland ponies is long, coarse wool on the body, very long and thick mane and tail.
