On April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the largest accident in the history of nuclear power. The reactor of the fourth power unit exploded, radioactive particles of iodine, strontium and cesium expanded to the northern part of Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic states, Poland, Sweden, Finland and other countries.
The Chornobyl NPP was built on the bank of the Pripyat near the city, the first nuclear power plant in Ukraine.
There are at least two different approaches to explaining the causes of the Chernobyl accident, which can be called official, as well as several alternative versions of varying degrees of probability.
At first, the blame for the disaster was laid solely, or almost exclusively, by the staff. Such a position was taken by the State Commission formed in the USSR to investigate the causes of the disaster, the court, as well as the KGB of the USSR, which conducted its own investigation. The IAEA, in its 1986 report, also generally supported this view. Much of the publications in the media, including recent ones, are based on this version. It is based on various artistic and documentary works.
