Lamborghini is an Italian brand and manufacturer of luxury sports cars and, formerly, SUVs, which is owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary brand division Audi. Lamborghini's production facility and headquarters are located in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy. In 2011, Lamborghini's 831 employees produced 1,711 vehicles. Lamborghini produces sports cars and V12 engines for offshore powerboat racing. Lamborghini currently produces the V12-powered Aventador and the V10-powered Huracan.
Lamborghini Aventador is a mid-engined sports car produced by the Italian manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini. In keeping with Lamborghini tradition, the Aventador is also named after a fighting bull. Aventador was a bull that fought particularly valiantly in the bull ring of Saragossa, Spain in 1993.
Lamborghini Murcilago is a sports car produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini between 2001 and 2010. Successor to the Diablo and flagship of the automaker's lineup, the Murcilago was introduced as a coup in 2001. A roadster version was introduced in 2004, followed by the updated LP 640 coup and roadster and limited edition LP 6504 Roadster. The final variation to wear the Murcilago nameplate was the LP 6704 SuperVeloce, powered by the largest and final evolution of the Lamborghini V12 engine. Production of the Murcilago ended on November 5, 2010, with a total run of 4,099 cars. Its successor, the Aventador, was released at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
Lamborghini Gallardo is a sports car built by Lamborghini from 2003 to 2013. Named after a famous breed of fighting bull, the V-10 Gallardo has been Lamborghini's sales leader and stable-mate to a succession of V-12 flagship modelsfirst to the Lamborghini Murcilago (4,099 built between 2001 and 2011), then to the current flagship Lamborghini Aventador. On November 25, 2013, the last Gallardo was rolled off the production line.
Production of the replacement for the Gallardo, the Huracan, began in 2014.
The Lamborghini Diablo was a high-performance mid-engined sports car that was built by Italian automaker Lamborghini between 1990 and 2001. After the end of its production run in 2001, the Diablo was replaced by the Lamborghini Murcilago. Diablo is "devil" in Spanish, which is diavolo in Italian.
Lamborghini Huracan is a sports car built by Lamborghini that replaces Lamborghini's sales leader and most produced car, the Gallardo. The Huracan name (Huracan being the Spanish word for hurricane) is inspired by a Spanish fighting bull, similar to various other Lamborghini car models. Huracan was a bull known for its courage that fought in 1879. Also Huracan is the Mayan god of wind, storm and fire.
