Life in America started off with tremendous duty on board the expedition voyages of my European friends. I was hardly a pampered pet - instead serving as the perfect mouse trap to vanquish the ship's rodent problem and in the barns and fields of colonial America. Through natural selection and a hard working life, my feline immigrant ancestors and I developed powerful muscles, strong jaws and hardy personalities.

The early European settlers began to take an interest in the beauty of my feline form and comforting lapful of cat warmth. I was later given the unromantic name of "Domestic Shorthair." However, I am anything but ordinary. I'm your PURRfect companion in that I'm not at all too hyper with the need to 'talk' to you frequently, nor am I ignorable as just a cute door stopper. However, you will certainly hear from me if my dish is empty. I love being by your side, rather than in your face. My intelligence is without peer, in that I can sense when you need comfort and that you depend on me to keep your home and larder free from rodents. I am a powerful, compassionate and dutiful hunter who loves to be near people. I only just wish everyone would appreciate my hunting gifts when I bring them home...
