About Heads-up Notifications

With Heads-up, any device can get the heads-up notifications introduced in the Android 5.0 “Lollipop”, no root required. But according to Addictivetips, this app is much more than just a backport. And according to the users, this app is way better than the original!

HIGHLIGHTS:
Heads-up displays the latest notification as a floating popup, complete with full text and quick actions (4.1+).
Works on everything running Android 3.1 and newer.
You're in control: Heads-up has five pages of customization, so you'll get notified your way.
Pocket detection – when you get a message, Heads-up turns the screen on if you take your phone out of the pocket! (Kind of like AcDisplay. Note: this causes a tiny increase in battery usage if you get a ton of notifications)
Privacy on the lock screen (and in general - Heads-up doesn't even have internet permission, so it can't send your private data anywhere)
Oh, and it's known to work on some smartwatches.

Heads-up is not a lockscreen app, so don't expect it behave like the Lollipop lockscreen.

LANGUAGES:
Heads-up notifications is available in over 20 languages, thanks to an awesome team of translators. As this app isn't supported anymore, new translations will not make it into Heads-up.

COMMON ISSUES:
If no popups appear, please make sure that Heads-up shows up in the list of running services. If it doesn't, make sure you have enabled the service, and then reboot the phone.

If your device is running Android 4.2 or earlier, and you have other accessibility services running (such as Pushbullet), they might block Heads-up from receiving your notifications. Please try to disable them if Heads-up doesn't work.

Huawei, XIAOMI and MIUI users: please allow Heads-up to display popups under Settings > Apps > Downloaded > Heads-up. It might also be necessary to reset the app data/settings.

This app uses the Device Administrator permission. It is used to work around a bug where the screen doesn't turn off on certain devices, and you should not grant the device admin permission unless you are affected by this bug. If you find that the uninstall button is disabled, this is because you have granted this permission. To revoke this permission so you can uninstall the app, go to System Settings > Security > Device administrators > Heads-up, and tap Disable.

Other: Facebook Messenger, AcDisplay and PushBullet notification mirroring might conflict with Heads-up.

OPEN-SOURCE:
Heads-up is open-source, licensed under GPL!
That means you can make your own version of Heads-up, as long as the resulting app also is open-source.

I don't have time to work on this app anymore, and don't expect answers to questions about the app. Sorry :(

What's Changed
I got an email from Google telling me Heads-up was about to be removed because it didn't "provide prominent user facing disclosure before asking the user to enable the Device Administrator permission". So, now there's an additional warning before enabling that permission, and you'll have to stare at it for a least five seconds. As you might know already, you don't have to grant this permission unless you are affected by a very rare bug.
PS: Thank you for still using Heads-up! ;-)

No adds, no unnecessary changes to home or lock screen, no crazy permissions, just putting my notifications on my screen so I don't miss a single one. I love it and this is exactly what I wanted!

I just have one request please make version for rooted devices with more features like hide the status bar etc.... I don't like to turn on/off it from accessibility services every time I turn off or restart the device....

Ok, I'm going to be that person that says, "I never write reviews". And I truly don't. But this app has been a life saver. I switched from an iphone to a Samsung four months ago and was missing way too many notifications. I struggled with the settings to no avail. Still nothing. Incredibly frustrated. Finally googled it and Heads-up notifications app was among the top choices. Installed it yesterday and immediately started getting all my notifications. I love how customizable it is, too. So thankful I found it. Many thanks to the developers.

Working quite well so far. Using it on my Galaxy s8+. You would think since I have Nougat I would not need this app, however the way this app handles notifications is far better than stock. Thank you for creating this.

Well, using Android Lollipop yet it doesn't have the heads up feature... Bad, but this app changed my phone. Thanks for developing.

App works perfectly fine for the first hour or so, then I get a notification that says it has stopped working and for me to close the app. From there forward it completely stops functioning. Still a pretty good app but doesn't exactly work 90 percent of the time.

Love the app, been using for a few days and its great. A few things Id like to add; when I receive multiple notifications from the same app, eg YouTube I will only get one pop up for one of the videos, the second notification won't appear. Secondly on the lock screen when you tap on a notification to take you to it it disappears and when, it would be nice if when clicked it would go translucent so that you know when you click it will take you to the app /notification Other than that it works well.

This works great and is Fully Customizable. color/font-size/position. Even worked fine on an old el cheapo tablet with 4.03 ics on it. Works even better on my phone. 5.1 lollipop. Nice work heads-up. *Note: If the Test button doesn't popup anything.. Look in the settings and Uncheck: Only on Lockscreen. Otherwise it will only show up on your lock screen.) I like it showing everywhere.. haha! Swipe to remove.. Awesome! No problems here at all. Anyone else with problems.. check the settings. There is a lot of useful different settings to change in there.

I was having problems with notifications on my Xiaomi Mipad 2 (heads-up appearing for a few seconds and the led working only with the screen off). With this excellent app I can now set the heads-up to stay until I dismiss it. Congratulations to the developer for creating such a sophisticated add free app!

I am SOOOO HAPPY!!! I finally found what I've been looking for! And now I can't live without this haha. It's customizable, works perfectly and its just amazing overall. I really hope you won't take this away. To the creator, THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this possible and THANK YOU for making this free! I really hope you will come back one day, but please don't ever take this away.

It's nice, I like it! One request, the notifications don't seem to be updating and doesn't show my most recent notifications. I'd like it to be fixed. Thanks c: EDIT: I realised you don't work on this app anymore since you are busy. I've turned it into a 5 star because this app deserves it. I can live with the glitch c: Thanks for producing this app. We all love it.

This app is maybe the only reason that I can tolerate this Android OS. Honestly the best way to get notified, still much better than native notifications. Now if we could just get a card stack that is like webOS!

Hi! So far I am loving the app but I have one little problem, my lockscreen notifications don't work! Nor show up I'm currently using a Honor X5 also known as the Huawei GR5 also the app needs quick reply

Z70%

Best Android notification app. Its simple to use and works exactly how it says. (Which is rare nowadays in the Play Store). Too bad the developer can't work on it anymore, but it's still the best one out there as of now

K70%

I love it, but I have one major problem: notifications in the apps style are being overlayed by those of the system. Of course this doesn't happen for apps like Instagram where there is no system handled notification, but with apps like Snapchat, this creates a very ugly amalgamation of graphics

While I really liked the app, it does get old having it crash anywhere from 2 to 20 times in a week. It doesn't seem to be too happy with higher volumes of notifications or something. Was great when I first found the app a few months ago.

C70%
by C####:

A Life saver! It actually popped up the notification automatically which doesn't work on a app i use as you had to swipe from the top of the screen down to see the notification. Thank you to the developer. Top stuff!

A good alternative to the poorly designed annoying heads up notifications on my S8. I was first getting a double notifications so I tried the HeadsOff app, but that stopped working so I disabled them (without root) using Android SDK. Unfortunately the app is still rather unstable. It crashes at least twice a day, and I get notifications from my phone that it's slowing down my phone due to frequent crashes, and I don't get notifications periodically whenever I'm told it crashed. Hoping for more stability with future updates so it's more reliable.

Fantastic! Would have gave 5 stars except the minor annoyance of the issue of the same notification constantly popping back up even after I swipe it away. Am I missing a setting because I searched for a way to disable this but to no avail. If a developer can give me advice on this issue I will rate 5 stars very happily. My notifications stopped working and this app was welcomed with open arms! Thank you. If only the app applied to helping me answer my phone..

Used it on my Android 4.1.2 phone and now using on my Android 4.4.2 phone and my Android 5.0.1 tablet. Works well on all of those! Great for those who are deaf and need a strong visual to alert them about a message. I'm sad the developer has decided to stop working on this app. Best of luck to him and thanks for a great app!

This is the best app ever! 100% no ads. Works beautifully and no real issues. Such an awesome tool really easy to set up and the dev is amazing. This is is worth more then just 5 stares. This Is the best notification app on the market. A must have for all android users .

I have tried many apps for heads up notifications. But they are full of crap (changing lock screen and unnecessary settings). This app does what it supposed to do. Pure notifications.

Q70%

Does exactly what I want it to do, including customization. This is supposed to be a stock feature on my phone (s7 edge) but it wasn't working so this app replaced it and works great. Thanks.

This is a great app... But, I can't get my notifications to stop popping up twice. As in through the app and through my phone's notifications. Has anyone else had this problem with an HTC A9?

A70%

Displays all notifications correctly but does not disable the stock heads-up notifications, showing double notifications constantly. Shame.
