No need dock or charging, just use this app, Daydream will launch from icon immediately
Need to turn on Daydream before launch this application
Settings > Display > Daydream > Turn it on and choose your dream

It should start automatically, as soon as screen goes to sleeping. Also, only for perticular time. Further to this, by using Mobile sensor, when screen is at down position, kept on bed etc, when lifted, it shall start daydream. May you see Microsoft mobile for accurate expectations.
