About Phantom Slayer

Phantom Slayer is a simple but fun maze/exploration game, based on the original game for the TRS80 Color Computer.

You explore a 3D maze, attempting to kill off the phantoms in the maze. You get an audible clue when phantoms are nearby, rapid heavy breathing. Your gun has a two second recharge time, and there is also a teleport in the maze which takes you back to your start.

You can have either modern or retro graphics.

This game is now nearly thirty years old, but the original was notoriously creepy. I think I've managed to get some of the original 'creepiness' in the game.

This game is free as in really free, it is open source, there are no adverts, nothing you can buy, sell or rent, no extra levels. It's just there for a bit of fun if you want. Or not if you don't.

Kudos for doing this! I've often said if I could program this is the game I would do! This is one of the most memorable games from my early computer days, can't remember whether we had it on the Dragon 32 or MSX, but the whole family would play and get in a panic when hearing the heartbeat getting louder and faster as the phantom got closer. That's the only thing missing for me in this version, the heavy breathing doesn't quite invoke the same terror but turning the corner smack into the phantom does!

Was obsessed by this game when I was a kid, this is pretty good but I miss the abject terror caused by the phantom detector's thud thud noise which sped up as the phantom approached. It was reminiscent of the way your heart sounded when it was scaring you witless! Still ace retro fun though!
