Backgammon Free for Android
At first AI was really a challenge to beat but now it is not fun at all, I beat it regularly; like 90% of the time at level 5. However it is very easy on the eyes, smooth play just wish AI was a little smarter. I am an accomplished player of 35 years so dont pay no mind to my gloating. Overall one of the better games I have played
Visually excellent, great gameplay. On rare occasions when trying to move pieces close to each other the app picks the wrong one, but it's rare. Also seems like when you up the difficulty the AI simply gets better rolls (ie four double in a row) or enters unrealistically easily when the inner table options are very limited. Still, the pros outweigh the cons. Great game.
I really cannot understand why the others think that the game at level 5 cheats. I have the opposite impression that the game gives me the dive i want at any time. I rated it with 3 stars because the game is very easy. I play at level 5 all the time and it cannot beat me. It mades stupid moves. I have 6 wins at 7-round matches and AI 0. And rounds won 22 vs 7. The game is too easy. I have screenshots for anyone who may not believe.
Under the premise that there's always room for improvement, this version of backgammon is better than most of the freebees that are out there - but it could be so much better. The game graphics are old fashioned - not optimized for good game play. So easy to hit something incorrectly and make an error move. I found that it's best to use a stylis for this game. What I like about the game is the aggressive "expert" mode. At first, it may appear that the game is "cheating" - but what is really going on is that the game uses a very nice algorithm to "guess" the best possible moves with a given roll. Some of the solutions are insanely predictive - which gives the impression that the game is getting the rolls it needs to win. Why I like this feature - it's instructive. Good training for live games. I'll be happy if in future versions the publisher optimizes game play.
game is good. played it for a while now but after playing it for quite some time on level 5 and beating the computer often, it seems that the computer gets specific rolls of the dice to get any singles that open up no matter what the combination and when the computer opens a single, the players roll very rarely will land on it.
Update1: For sure the game cheats! How do you explain the way it gets just the right number everytime? True you count the number of doubles but key is when you get the doubles. I am positive if I used real dice the outcome would be different. Update 0: Have my doubts about the dice algorithm. CPU rolls more doubles and when it needs it
At level 1,2&3 this is a great app and a good way to learn to play backgammon. Level 4 is OK, but level 5 is awful. The dice throws are rigged to give the computer every chance to win. When you understand the algarhythms level 5 is quite easy to win, but it makes you play an unnatural game of backgammon which damages your real world game play.
This game is the most cheating game I have ever played. It says it doesn't cheat but it looks like over a hundred people can't be wrong and this one person be right. Maybe she doesn't play the game or she would realize it for herself.I have five out of 6 on the computers side closed every roll it gets out, this is not random, this is not true game play, it is downright cheating. Also, you can be up on the game and all of a sudden it gets double double double to catch up more cheating. I will have just one out of 6 covered at my home side and guess what I will all of a sudden get double of that number. Please heed my warning this game is the most cheating b.s. game out there
Fun game, but the computer constantly gets EXACTLY the roll it needs. It happens way too often for it to be a coincidence Update: Still playing and still frustrated with "random" numbers. The coincidence of numbers coming up for the AI that it needs is far too common. Update 2: AI dice are still loaded. You can keep denying it but it's so obvious. Update 3: Dice are still loaded.
I took their challenge. I played their AI extensively with and without real dice. With real dice I spank this thing on max difficulty 4 out of 5 games. With the computer's dice the ratio reverses. It always rolls EXACTLY what it needs to hit, save, escape, or lock you up. Not even close to plausible.
Game cheats with the dice. Developer claims moves are random, THEY ARE NOT! After playing several hundred games, I can predict with significant accuracy what rolls the game will get. The developers will deny this of course but, they are lying!
I only recently learned how to play and have found this app to be an amazing tool for refining my strategies. It has lots of great options, it plays smoothly, and the AI can be increased for more challenging games. All that said, the AI is disappointing at the higher levels. It becomes very unbalanced with odds of no-win positional moves available to you.
So appallingly bad you can even predict the dice throws every hand and get them 100% right every throw. It is not a game because it is fixed and the team behind it talk such rubbish to cover it. I am more likely to believe you if the dice throws were truly random, but they are definitely not. I totally agree that backgammon is a game of skill and luck but those two are impossible while the dice throws are rigged.
I'm a professional. PROGRAMMED TO WIN !! WARNING: NOT FOR SMALL CHILDREN. Very deflating to young one's ego, and sense of pride and accomplishment. Program rolls far too many doubles, and rolls it's much needed number...no matter the difficulty on a steady diet. I've been all over the world. Seen every move. CHEATS !!! A REAL EGO KILLER !! .
Distracting animated BANNER ads, in-game. (The offending Ad was removed after I rated this game at one star.) So. To be fair. It's a good app. with multiple levels of opposition. I particularly like the fact that you caan put it in "Auto"" once you have all your pieces in the last section with no opponents pieces in the way. BUT KEEP THOSE FLICKERING BANNER ADS OUT OF THE GAME!
Opponent 9 x doubles, covers every single coin, me no doubles and unable to cover a single coin. AND THIS WAS JUST IN ONE GAME. The most pathetic loaded dice on any backgammon app. Avoid at all costs
Easily the worst cheating POS ever developed. Choosing the highest level of difficulty only means the opponent will have two to three times as many doubles every game, and will get the perfect roll to hit all unprotected tiles in one turn. It will double you when trapped, then get a series of miracle rolls to beat you by EXACTLY ONE TILE every time, using multiple doubles, 5 or 6 doubles in a row, whatever it takes. UNINSTALLED IMMEDIATELY!
overall great application. it could improve as some moves from the cpu are wrong towards the end mostly. also I found CPU to wrongly accept doubling. CPU moves are in general predictable. another area of improvement would be at the end when the players pick up their pieces. CPU is wrongly moving the pieces , not taking care to place pieces in all positions
It's not a game if it's programmed for computer to get every necessary dice combination to win, that's called Cheating, and is not fun. Make this game truly fair, it's NOT fun guys. 1/26/18: per developers insistence it's just a game of "chance", it states in the game description "skill" is involved....biggest skill being the game is stacked for the computer, against the player. Over it, your games, and advertisers. Good luck getting users to stick with your products AI, fair play is the LEAST your users deserve for having to put up with ads, already uninstalled this product.
A little less flexible than I like. Often makes unintended move that has to be undone because of two moves applied to one chip error. Control could be improved by using highlite plus number to show single or multiple moves.
Other than the fact that my open pips get hit 80% of the time, an inordinate amount of doubles at the end when the game is close, and the CPU getting the exact rolls it needs, I like the game just fine. No way in real life would you be able to roll 5 doubles in a row, or 6 doubles out of 7. Without the advantages the CPU gives itself, the play is amateurish at best.
Works very well, easy to use and has kept me entertained for hours. Tiny glitch when bearing off automatically... If there are gaps, a dice with a low value will be used first to move a further away piece even when the second die would take that piece off fully (eg throw 1 and 6, pieces on position 2,3,4 and 6; could will move piece from 6 to 5 then bear it off from 5). Great game!
I am beating it 12 to 2 in 5 point matches with Crawford rule turned on. It does not make mathematically good choices. Bad math algorithm. Not as good as the old Palm OS Treo version by Handmark. Terrible
I agree with a majority of the others. Level 5 is suspect cheating. I can almost pinpoint their next roll. I'm fine with losing if it's my own playing, but after several dozen games, I can predict their roll as well as their move. Sometimes, it's a little too obvious how the computer is getting its dice combinations. I like a challenge, but not when it's a one-sided, uphill battle against bad AI dice rolls. If you play this, be cautious of level 5.
You can improve your skills, but the computer is amazing with it's "optimised dice rolls", always gets exactly the roll needed to land on your guy. And I did read the "optimised moves" disclaimer, sounds like double talk for we don't cheat, sort of.
ANYWAY YOUR APP IS BECOMING INTELLIGENT? EITHER MY GAME IS WAY OFF OR YOUR APP IS LEARNING TO ANTICIPAYE MY MOVES AND ACTUALLY 'THINKING AHEAD I SWEAR!. STILL HAVING FUN EITH IT AND HAVE REINSTALLED IT OVER AT LEAST FIVE CELL PHONES IVE PURCHASED OVER A COUPLE OF YEARS.... Backgammon my cultural heritage. I am Armenian. I love this app because it really plays its side well. In other words it's fresh, challenging, & entertaining. You have a real winner when downloading this game. Have fun. I am. EMC on Samsung J7 Perx
I've been playing this particular game for years. No matter what the developers tell you about randomness - and I believe they think they are correct - there is no way the random dice generator is random. Maybe it's time they fix it. I fixed it by finding another backgammon program. The graphics aren't as smooth, and game play is slow, but it seems the programmer knows a thing or two about random chance. Much more realistic in that regard. Problem is their game seems easy to win eventhough I'm ahead with both games. I've now played both games side by side for some time and the differences are obvious and astounding.
It's fun, but the top difficulty level is that of an average player. I've backgammoned it several times because it leaves pieces behind too long, which should never happen. The 2 player option is excellent. Some have complained about the board, but I think that can be changed. I recommend adding this game to your collection.
Even on level 5 you should be able to get at least a 50% win rate. Count the number of doubles the AI gets when bearing off though, and the fact that nearly every time it's reentering a piece from the bar it will hit a blot of there is one there whereas when you are reentering it will take you 3 or 4 turns even when you have 3 or 4 points free to renter on. Developers will keep saying it's not rigged though.
Dice rolls are loaded against you. Too many times the exact roll needed (against you) happens and you can't get anything in your favor. You get exactly what you Can't use, while all the rolls the other way are just whst is needed for the game to catch up. I have always felt this way about this game, but after watching six consecutive doubles to come from behind on one game and seven out of nine rolls the next, I had to say something. Note, I only play level 5.
Everything is fine. But as everybody spotted, at level 5 game cheats, but still it is more satisfying to destroy cheating cpu, although I think cpu makes statistic equal - when you roll more doubles, after that cpu gets more doubles and after all statistics gets equal. And it is time to create online gaming)
This game simply cheats When you play in the levels 4 & 5 especially. It is the only way the app can control how good it is or isn't, by manipulating the dice rolls. It is pure and simple. Surely on the levels 1-3 it just does stupid moves, and leaves it's pieces alone and vulnerable to attack, or capture. However, there is no way that the app isn't programmed to cheat. Impossible
You lying cheaters. Cheat, cheat, cheat! Towards the end when YOU are losing, you give yourself 4-5 doubles in a row. You give yourself 5-6, I get 1-2, next round you get another 5 doubles, I get 1-3, you get double 6's, I get 2-1, you get double 5's, I get 3-1, really, then you get double 6's again, I get a double also, 1's. Really. And YOU say it is random . Deleting you from my phone. Now you can be happy, cheaters.
There are so many replies from AI saying the dice rolls are random yet quite clearly there is something wrong with it. Although I have more 1st throws and doubles, all of mine come when I am unable to use them. Occasionally there will be a very even game but then the computer gets 2 x double 6s in every following game and invariably starts with 6/5 as well. It takes all the enjoyment out of playing the game
The computer absolutely cheats. Always gets the numbers it needs to escape the rail or hit you & gets doubles when it's in open spaces constantly. CPU has gotten doubles 5+ times in a row on too many times to count. Avoid game if you want a fair challenge.
I just downgraded my rating to 3 due to ad issues. The ad server shows the game down a lot. The ads during play aren't intrusive visually but the game lags badly when ads appear. Full screen ads between games are quite obnoxious. Enjoyable game. I'd like to see a stronger AI. also, the piece movement could be a little more convenient. For example, move the pieces with a double tap if there's only one valid move. Also roll the dice automatically, at least as an option.
Player can surrender. AI cant SURRENDER!!! Why???? Needs a more competitive AI. Needs an option for Jacoby rule. Needs an option for AI SURRENDER. If you dont like the outcome of dice and moves, use the "undo" button. However, use of the "undo" button still gives the same dice rolls. So... how is that random dice? Dice rolls are pre programmed per round. Fix it!
This is an excellent game however I've also played thousands of games both in person and against computers (Jellyfish) but this app constantly and consistantly rolls the perfect throw when the odds are against me. Conversly, I've just played a game where I threw a double 4, 5 times in a row.. That's not normal or random. I've read all the other reviews about the dice and it definately makes me think somethings up regardless of what the developers say. Overall a good app though.
You'll find that the doubling cube can control your winning strategy. As soon as you double the computer works harder. Play with the difficulty levels and number of games to the match to find what suits you for each session. Warm up at easy level and work up! No super intrusive advertising interrupting your game. Yahoo! Dice doubles sometimes are better for opponent but next game reverses. Enjoy! Excellent game!

Please stop adjusting game for people who do not want a challenge and only want to win with no effort or skill. The CPU makes stupid moves now. I have this version of bacgammon on another phone and I love both wining and loosing at challenge stage 5 on old phone, but the CPU is no challenge now on new phone. I win all the time even on stage 5. Or maybe you guys could develop a pro version and a beginners version. Please give me back old CPU.
