Samurai of Hyuga 2 for Android
Please don't stop to write! Compared to normal books, this one is pretty good, and compared to other digital gamebooks, this is one of the best! I'm quite surprised there is still not a wave of fanart dedicated to Samurai of Hyuga story.
Would have liked that the story ends with then actual demon being defeated. It would have felt like and more fufilling book ending.
If you loved the first part, you'll like this one. The tension that was prevalent throughout the first part was lacking here, only picking up at around the third act. Manages to keep me intrigued enough for the next part.
As much as I try to avoid something that whiffs of a shounen rip off. I enjoyed the first book, with well established backgrounds, a tight cast of diverse and fairly engaging characters, and a pleasant amount of choice. Book 2 is a step back in every sense, trading in an excellent start and last chapter for a mid plot slump of banal comedy, dreary railroaded side plots and forgettable romantic teases. Though the writing remains accomplished and uses lore well enough, Book 3 doesn't bode well following this.
This story has me so wrapped in it I am foaming at the mouth to get the next chapter! Such great writing and details! Just beautifully wrote! I actually spent money on this which shows just how much I like it!
Part one atleast had an ending killing one demon but here the story has not gone to that length and junko is still in the shadows, sadly this is good for business but not for customers
I do not like cliffhangers, but besides that, I did enjoy Book 2. It's not perfect, but it's enjoyable. Also, I laugh at the breaking-the-fourth-wall part that reminds me of Neptune from the Hyperdimension series.
Not a review, just my thoughts and being nitpicky. If you liked the first one, chances are you'll enjoy this one too. First, Junko. Wished there was more of her, but since we are given more information about the relationship with the main character, it's fine. Momoko, thought that her falling in love was way too quick, hopefully will be back next book. Wished it concluded in a demon slayed. Overall, was less eventful than last, but I still really enjoyed :)
I recommend this game 1000x! I always get worried when I buy a game, especially if it cost more than $5, but wow. This game has exceeded my expectations! I loved part 1, but I have to say I liked this one better! I also love how the romance is being built so well with possible people! (Personal favorite at the moment is Jun). So if anyone is questioning if they should get this I think you should! Very enjoyable!
I will be honest. I am and will never be a fan of cliffhangers (everyone hates them right?) I mean, the story is well planned and well written, but it's kinda like an off tracked train. In book 1 it's more action-ish. But, shogi and vacations in foreigner mansions.... doesn't sound too much like samurai or Ronin thing. But 5 star for good story nonetheless. Good job author
Usually I wouldn't waste money on choice games because they just end way too quickly but I'm glad I used money on this one. Both the first and second stories are thrilling and overall amazing and well written. Can't wait for that third book! But dang, those cliffhangers though >.<
Gosh. Such a good book. I personally find it better than the first, but it has some faults. Like the cliffhanger at the end. I know you want to put some hype for the next book, but if its gonna take you a year just finish it. But other than that its really great. So five stars
I have regrets. This was the equivalent of a filler episode of a show. Not as bad as a clip show, but not really adding much. It was fine. Not $6 fine. I'd wait for a sale. Between a tedious chess tournament and pointless vac-cay it felt like just killing time. Characters had feeble arcs with no resolution and in the end we didn't even kill the second spirit which would have at least accomplished something.
Fun to play. Book two a little disappointing compared to first book. Could have been a little longer aswell, i completed the book and was a bit peeved to find i have another so called cliffhanger. Still no update to 3rd book release so would advise not to pay and play if you want to complete the game. At moment have to wait for next chapters release and no indication of when that may be.
I loved the first installment and enjoyed the interaction between other characters in the book. Like everyone else, I thought the MC would get to kill a demon per book. And for that price and getting a cliffhanger at the end is a total rip off. But all in all still enjoyable playthrough.
It was great to see the cast again and I did love getting to interact with them, but choices weren't that effective and that cliffhanger... but i did enjoy the change of pace with the tournament. Shows we can do more than stab.
Like some people mentioned, by the end of Book 1, you slayed 1 demon and felt like a good point to stop. With book 2, I'm left thinking "I spent money for this?" If it was $1 or less I wouldn't mind, but for the going price I would like it if it had the closure book 1 did. If book 3 comes out fast, I also wouldn't mind it, but it looks like I'll be waiting awhile.
A terrifically written story, and one that certainly lived up to the potential that the first had. Much longer too. The consequences have a realistic feel to them, and I love how your MC isn't always a good guy. I only have two complaints about this series. One, is the romance. While there is some in this story, your choices are severely limited. As in none in the first story, and only one potential interest here. And speaking about romance, I sincerely hope there will be one between my MC and masami.
But it's incomplete with that aweful cliffhanger. I might have bitched about the last one but it at least had a complete ark. I did enjoy the shogi but the vacation was overly long and tedious. What would have been better is if the trip was shortened to feel like a couple of days, we find out about the demon and kill it, we return to hyuga to find it has been at war with jijinto for a year. But that's my opinion. Still a good book.
While the story is written well, it's not suited to be a game unlike many of the other good games here. Other ones let the player choose how their relationship is with each character but here it's whatever the author wants. The kid your guarding is always standoffish to you, your character always has lingering feelings for their ex, and you don't ever feel like your doing what you want to do because no matter how you respond, your character still does stuff on it's own.
I'm giving it 4 stars because the writing is good, I love all the characters, and it's decently fleshed out, but the story arc didn't end before the book did. The 1st book had a whole story, and then set up for book 2, but book 2 just ends in the middle of its own story. Again, great story, I just didn't feel it left off as well as book 1 did.
Seriously, one of the best interactive fiction stories that I have ever read(even better than the last part)! I loved every single thing this game had to offer. If I had to pick one thing that could be made better, it would be the ending, which ended quite suddenly. Other than that, great game!
SPOILERS!! If this book was free it would have garnered a 3 star at least. This book has less action and is pretty much uneventfull if Im being honest. I dont remember the total number of demons that were mentioned in the first book. But I can say no demons were killed in this book. One can hence stand to assume that author intends to juice out maximum money out of us on the fame of the first book. Thoroughly dissapointed.
Really really liking these, well written and I feel like the choices actually have an impact (most of the time). Near the end, grammar started breaking down occasionally which was weird, but not so much that it couldn't be understood.
Love all the angsty monologues and options, characters interactions were fun and left you wanting for more. Just wished it didnt end on a cliffhanger, it wouldnt have to be a full circle for this 2nd demon story either, at least some form of resolution. I hope book 3 will be an improvement over this cliffhanger issue. Looking foward!
A few typos here and there and no main antagonists have been defeated, which made the game feel like a filler. But the plot was interesting and I'm sure it is essential to the next book, so cut it some slack. Overall a good game.
I fell in love with this series... I read, usually ending my days at 5am because of this new addiction to the series... P.S. I know my character is an ass with a piece of a heart left but... I couldn't help it. I DID plow Momoko. Whatcha gonna do bout' it?
Momoko was my main concern... I could never connect with the Opium-maker, whether or not she had control of her mind or not. Didn't enjoy being multiply forced to romace her, while Toshie was left hanging. I've re-download it and gave it a chance past Momoko's romance, and discovered you don't have to pursue a relationship with her at all. So, thank you for the actual choices, and I look forward to the next book.
I liked and enjoyed reading it, but the cliffhanger at the end irritated me. Book 1 was a cliffhanger too but at least a demon was slain. The story was interesting and changes the pace to show that there are other things that happens than just the mission and the vacation bit, regardless of how a lot of people disliking it actually makes sense as the demon was supposed to make everyone forget. More romance options needed too, i hope Toshie and Masami can become romance options in future books too.
The book is very well written, worth the price paid, but it suffers for not having the whole arc complete by the end. The cliffhanger ending feels like a cheap gimmick to draw suspense, whereas the previous book was able to at least boast a complete story before ending. Granted, this story is way more fleshed out than book 1, but the lack of a resolution gives it the feel of being only part finished, leaving the reader feeling irritated (at least, I did). I hope book 3 won't feel disconnected to 2.
Silly me, I thought the pace would be killing one demon per book. Instead I get a shogi tournament arc that both the player character and I just wanted to be over, yet turns out to be the majority of the book. Cliffhanger end is a cheap shot. Choices affect very little--the game will proceed with the same events regardless. A disappointment.
Let me set this straight, the storytelling is solid, the character arcs elaborated more, some more believable than others, and the change of pace from the flashy, satisfying fights of the first book to the more intellectual, strategic and thoughtful theme of the second installment is refreshing, and quite entertaining. There are subtle hints and hidden symbolism all over this book, making for a very entertaining read overall. But God. Oh god. That ending. It's cheap. It WILL leave you with a sour taste...
Spent tooooooo much time on shogi...still ambiguous in regards to toshio and more questions than answers.. I have waited ages for this book and book one is far greater than this one. However I will say the added 'innuendo and spicy' factor was very good for my perverted ronin Emiko
Great book, nice and lengthy! It was interesting with the shogi and I was honestly dismissive with Momoko since I'm more interested in Toshie, but the twists were great! Excited for book 3
I bought it twice, previously on iPhone and now on android which caused me to buy Book 2. Book two Spends too much time in the later part of the story trying to be sci fi ish to me. *spoiler* The whole island scenario dragged on way too long and I was thinking we would get off it soon when suddenly it ends like a murder mystery. I wanted to focus on the samurai aspect and Jun. I would have loved to actually delved into my characters past l with Jun or had more meaningful relationship moments.
I love this series and personally think it would suck if it ended there. (Yes I am aware of a book 3 in the making) The Shoji tournament I felt was a good change of pace from raw combat showing that the character does have reserve. Overall I liked the character development too but didn't like the end. The end of the first book was way more satisfying even though I thought a well developed character may die. As a whole a great series so far.
Great read, just like the first one. While it is more railroaded than most choose your own adventure games, it was less so than I expected given that it's a series and not just one book. Looking forward to going through it again.
I felt depressed by the MC'S relationship with everyone, especially Musashi. I've been trying to foster their bonding but I'm not getting there no matter what choices I make. She bought him dango and he never even found out as far as I know. Please let the whole group bond a lot in book 3. This book was way too negative over all. I think winning shoji as a device to get them to the island was ok but it DID take too long. Trying to help the date was kinda fun. Sad that someone left my group entirely though.
I enjoyed this just as much as the last one. While there wasn't much in the way if action, the character development felt really great in this book

Store line was good, but choices were limited and less action from the Ronin. Please release the book 3 soon am hooked on this story, hope the book 3 is much more fun, more choices and less expensive.
