Roll20 for Android for Android
I think this app is great and right on point for what it's supposed to be. I think that a lot of the people that are giving it a low review are missing the point of what this app is for. This app isn't supposed to replace the browser app and it's not used for actually running roll20 like everyone's used to. This app is to be used with a gaming table of some sort where the DM has inserted a computer monitor or is using a projector to project the map onto the table this app is to allow the characters to log in and have access to their character sheets and if you so choose use the roll20 rolling system. It also gives the players in the DM of fun way to pass notes back and forth by using the chat.
We use Roll20 for our gaming group that meets in person. It is unreasonable to require everyone to bring a laptop but most everyone has a tablet. The problem is this doesn't support the map feature and that is the whole reason we use Roll20. Disappointed in the the app. But the computer version is great.
Guys you need to realize this was never meant to give you full replacement of your browser or social contact with your group. Experienced gamers realize this. Its not perfect and was never meant to be. They are a small company and do this stuff in their spare time. Keep that in mind when you use this product. Help your GM get the packages to make your experience better.
This app may be really useful on a BIG tablet. On a 7", I can see chat and pull up my character sheet. However, there is no zoom functionality on the character sheet, so it's a guess as to where you are actually pressing and may fatfinger a different action/attack/spell than you intended. This app also does not install on a phone, only on a tablet, which is unfortunate. I was trying to find a way to stay in the game while traveling for the first 30 minutes, but not having access to the chat made it impossible and I had to back out of the session. With some improvements, this could be rated much higher.
I love roll20, I have been an user for two years. Sadly this app does not do it justice, it buggy, slower than the browser version, it is hard to edit ones character sheet in here, it crashes constantly and the devs have not made a significant update in ages. It is like they gave up on the app. Finally, it is bothersome to have to loggin manuall EVERY time I ope the app...
I'd love to use it but it simply doesn't work on my tablet. It brings up the bio of the character sheet, but when I click on the character sheet tab, it does nothing. Galaxy Tab S SM-T800 Android version 6.0.1
The browser version has voice and video chat, which my group uses for our sessions. It's inexcusable that these features are absent from the android version and the browser version locks out mobile devices. Tablets and phones almost universally have cameras and mics. This is unusable cross platform.
This is a companion app to the Roll20 website. As such I found it useful for saving screen space so I didn't have to cover up the play area on my browser to look at my character sheet. Have not tried it in context of an in person game.
Simply unfit for purpose. You can't even change the music. Trying to roll dice is just inconvenient and takes too long. Not worth getting a is.
The app literally won't load a game on my account. To say nothing of the awful barcode system that defeats then purpose of playing over the internet, this entire app is not usable even with games that you already have access to.
Can't really tell you what this app is supposed to be like, because all it does (for me anyway) is ask me to scan some codes while displaying a blank page. LITERALLY DOES NOTHING OTHER THAN THAT! I would rate it a ZERO if that were an option.
Great app, well laid out and really lets you sort character sheets and the like on the fly, however, as of the moment it is near unusable for me do to its speed, it slow to even type into an input field, come on guys what are you doing
not compatible with newer samsung devices?? Note 8. Would love to use with game nights on the go. I'm a paying subscriber to the website.
This is a companion, not replacement. Imagine being new and needing tons of help, you can share access. Also a great way to have hidden messages though text works as well, plus the website logs all chat logs and rolls (for later reference if needed). Does it replace an actual sheet? No, but it does offer many useful features. The last update was over a year ago and the main site has updates every other month roughly. The app has always been... Less than reliable but when it works, emphasis on when, it is amazing. That said it crashes about 90% of the time before loading into a game in all sorts of scenarios, maps, no maps, characters, no characters. It is so frequent and common the Android OS has stopped asking for bug report submissions. 3 different device from 3 different manufacturers and still rampant crashes. In the off chance it does work, loading character sheets, rolling dice, and chatting can crash the app. Tl;dr its a waste of time and memory.
This app doesn't even load character sheets... What's the point? Waited 10 minutes after clicking my sheet in the journal, nothing.
You can't search for games, you can't send or receive messages for if you were actually accepted into a game. You need another app to actually use this? This is a horrible app and it has no use unless you are already part of a game
I only gave super bad reviews becuse 1:everyone else is as well. And 2: when I log in I'd do sent show anything on the screen , plus you need a Barcode scanner as well. So it sucks.
Half the time it force stops on me and the other half it won't let me view my sheet
Semi useful when away from PC. Character sheet does not auto fill or update if base stats are filled in, which is unfortunate. Would save a lot of time and make sure it is all updated properly.
It does what it says. I mean, right on the wrapper it says best used as a character sheet in person. Or use with VTT on a computer. But not that it is a standalone... I don't like that it won't remember your log in info. That should be fixed. Otherwise it works pretty much as advertised. It should be optimized for phones too though as well. But it clearly states it's not for phones so I can't complain and must rate accordingly. (Which other raters seem to have not read the labels at all...) It needs to be updated for newer Android software too.
Horrible app. All it does is say "connecting to server" and nothing else. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times all with the same result.
Sadly this didn't work on my tablet at all :( If very much like to us this, but it will not work...
Chat and journal were the only parts of the app that worked, albeit not very well. If the compendium worked at all, it would probably get another star; but it did not.
Nothing like the real site, you're better off just using the mobile site. It's the same price no matter if you use app or site on mobile.
I would love for this to work better. It's really laggy and it's easier just to use the web browser version.
I can't even get into the campaign without it crashing. That makes it completely useless.
If I can't load into any of my campaigns to even use anything how is this app even remotely useful 05 Summary of Campaign simulator.
So, how do I get anything other than a blank screen that I can't do anything on?
It might work fine if I could even get into my game. But it doesn't though, so....it sucks
Wholly unreliable. This app does more harm than good to the roll20 name.
I installed this so I could write in my characters backstory while I was away from my computer but there is no button that lets me start typing in the bio section of the sheet.
How do you find a DM's badge? Or start a campaign? Or create your own DM'z badge? There is only one option & no access to any toolz
Even as a companion, it's completely... intellectually challenged. It has a chat and a dice roller. That's about it. Nothing you can't do in person much easier. Requires extra space for additional Barcode scanner and you can't join a campaign without scanning the Barcode in person from your DM. Useless for long distance gaming. Useless for next door neighbor gaming. Useless for in person gaming. You'd be MUCH better off with paper and pencil and I will be removing this app the moment my DM realizes this.
Doesn't show the map, dice rolling is harder than finding and using my physical dice, chst functionality is buggy. In short, what's the use?
I guess this would be useful for a DM to go digital instead of using a binder, but I was really expecting something more like the website and would rather use that.
Yes, it has along way to go and yes the website makes it seem like it does more than it actually does, but that's because the extras are behind the GM pay wall. Even then I love that the character sheet syncs across the game, easily allowing for updates by both the GM and PC. It also gives you access to all the games notes and the basic rules! I look forward to improvements, but I think it's a great start.
I could say nothing good about this. It's a travesty. This could EASILY be better.
The entire idea of playing without having to meet up is what sells this app but you have to physically be with someone to scan into a campaign. Wow.
It could be better.

Honestly all I want this to do is let me change the music. I've got a 7 inch and I have no interest in using this for character sheets. It's cool for chat, the compendiums probably easier on the desktop, but I don't want to waste a whole monitor (it even the side bar) on the jukebox tab. With that said, I'm always changing the music and would like it in the tablet app so I always have it on hand. Get the jukebox going, and this app is a must for the seasoned roll20 dm.
