About BW-Go Free

BW-Go (Black & White Go) is a flexible, easy-to-use SGF editor to record, analyze, study and replay Go / Igo / Weiqi / Baduk games. A Gnu Go computer player is available as a separate download to play against Android.
This free version is fully functional, except for the color styling of the screens.

If you encounter any problems, please mail me. Any feedback is welcome, including suggestions for later versions!

Features:
- All tools in one screen, including comments

- Unique 'tether' stone and markup placement: play a stone and move your finger away to check and correct the position.
Fast for tablets, accurate enough for a 25x25 game on a 320x480 screen!

- Correction for involuntary movements while lifting your finger

- Use the BW-DGS plugin (separate download) to make your moves on the turn-based Dragon Go Server! Check it out on the Play Store for details.

- Use a bot player (separate download) as an opponent or analysis helper. The bot is activated as just another tool, to be used in any SGF!
Check out BW-Gnu Go on the Play Store for details.

- Study joseki while analysing your games using embedded Kogo's Joseki Dictionary, version March 6, 2013.
KJD included by courtesy of Alexander Dinerchtein, curator, and Gary Odom, originator. http://waterfire.us/joseki.htm

- Landscape support on both phones and tablets

- Record your own games

- Game review/study: replay a game on the board while the app only accepts the game moves. Ask for hint: show 5x5 square containing next move (size adjustable in settings)

- Score/score estimate (manual marking of dead stones)

- Easy creation and browsing of variations without unnecessary pop-ups

- Mark moku with letters, digits and shapes

- Game editing: add and remove stones, correct earlier moves (checks if this results in impossible moves later)

- Supports game collections in single SGF, like the ones at http://webdocs.cs.ualberta.ca/~mmueller/go/games.html

- Also supports old SGF formats (pre-FF[4]). Please report any incompatible SGF's!

this is the best dgs. it also is great go tool. great! But like most others is a dan player. Learning is easier at one's own level. Too easy no learn. Too hard no learn. Kgs has kyo level bots. Perhaps it might be nice to have lower level for begginers to learn. Still 5 stars though.

Interface is great, but it's functionally broken, and so I can't trust it. Some sgf files (perhaps related to starting stones placements). I've also seen it lose a whole bunch of position markers. No idea why.

Super useful stone placing mechanism. Sometimese crashes but usually restores last stones' position after restart. I would like to see a game timer builtin in future versions.

An option to hide the comment area would be great, I keep clicking it by mistake. Also, I used to be able to open SGF's from the Google Drive app, but it throws an error now: "Error reading content from...". Thank you :) I know a couple of dollars don't make that much of a difference but I'll buy the Pro version if those features get implemented! =)

BW Go has a lovely interface, and is easy to use. It is hard to find anything that quite compares as it includes nearly all the functionalities of most PC Goban interfaces. The only slight handicap that I found was that on devices with a screen smaller than around three-point-five inches or so, the tree navigation buttons became a little fiddly in landscape mode, and comments couldn't be seen on such unusually small displays in portrait mode-- but it remains one of the (if not the) most useful Go apps I've used to date, and one of the most satisfying apps I've had.

All I want it for is playing asynchronously with a friend in a different time zone, and this app with the dragon server is perfect. I don't really use the joseki or study functions so can't rate that stuff.

This program is wonderful for learning or memorizing pro games. The feature that helps you figure out the area that the next move is great. The stone placement input is really cool once you learn how to use it.

I love this game. The only downside that i find is that you cannot play people online!

I learned a good deal of joseki fighting the not and peeking at the joseki page - wonderful implementation. I love how there are no ads and will be purchasing your paid version for support. DGS go server interface is the bomb. Great tether function for precise moves. Keep up the good work!

1.if one letter overlaps another, one of them may not show.for example, letter'C' maybe hide by 'a',so i cant see 'C' at all.Can you plz make the 'a' transparent in this example?2.sometimes i accidently hit the 'jump to begining' button when i was at 100th or more step,so i have to hold my finger at 'next' button for a long time to get back to the 100th step. Can you plz add a scroll bar or something like 'jump to xx step',so that i can jump to the step quickly? An 'undo' button to jump back is also ok i guess.

This is far more intuitive than the rest. Only thing lacking is an auto-play feature.

At last! A Go editor, that allows to open and edit any game, with no restrictions, with the ability to insert own moves (and to go back to the point of diversion in one click!), well-thought-of interface and perfect graphic design.

I wish there was an option to make the arrows bigger and not so close together. When I replay a game I always end up hitting the >| arrow and end up at the end up the game then I have to go all the way back through it.

This is the best integration with DragonGoServer I've seen so far and I have been looking for this for more than 3 years, so yes, awesome game!

Great free app. Included joseki dictionary, analysis, and move prediction perform nicely. Errors thrown have been dgs-side. Won't move to another for a while. Will ask repeatedly for rating and donation, fyi, but no ads makes this worth it

I really like this app and was going to buy the paid version as it is great with the dgs plugin but since updating my phone to android 5.0.1 it crashes nearly every time I try to open it. It's a shame as it really was a great app.

It's my go-to app for playing on Dragon. I will buy the paid version, because I think the dev deserves the support. I sent him a mail, telling that he should monetize the free version better. No reply. It would be nice to hear your ideas, Mark.

Really pleased by the program. The handling of sgf variations is intuitive. The teathering feature is handy. There are no annoying ads except a few tips, and a sugestion to buy the full app. No features are blocked.

Nice SGF editor. I especially like how it allows adding initial setup stones. Forced tips screens are annoying though.
