Solitaire Chess by ThinkFun for Android
Simple to learn, impossible to master, addictively fun - Solitaire Chess by ThinkFun is a new logic puzzle based on the rules of Chess. For chess newbies and experts alike, Solitaire Chess can be played quickly as every move must be a capture. Early challenges may seem easy, but soon you’ll find yourself in deeper waters, pushing your mind and thinking hard about your moves to try and solve each puzzle.
HOW TO PLAY:
Each challenge begins with a selection of chess pieces on a 4x4 game board. Your goal is to capture the pieces one by one until there’s only one left.
Every move must be a capture, so plan your moves wisely or you risk leaving pieces stranded!
Don't worry if you're not familiar with Chess. Hold any piece in the air to see its name and all possible moves. Within a few challenges, you'll be familiar with every piece – making this a great way to get familiar with the pieces and movement rules of Chess.
Solitaire Chess includes UNDO and RESET buttons, so don't be nervous about experimenting in the game. There’s even a HINT button for when you get in a real bind.
GAME FEATURES:
- 400 Challenges, 100 at each difficulty level
- Four difficulty levels: EASY, MEDIUM, HARD, EXPERT
- Challenge Scorecard to keep track of your wins
- Save multiple games in progress
- Hint/Reset/Undo buttons to help you figure out each puzzle
- Solve button to see how it’s done
- Quick and easy Tutorial
Solitaire Chess recently won a 2011 Parents' Choice Gold Award for excellence in mobile play.

I want a refund. Game could be fun, but "the black screen issue" makes it frustratingly unplayable. This issue has existed since 2013. Google Play should pull the paid version until it gets fixed.
Great game and concept; however, minor annoyances are frustrating. Sometimes the "Reset" button is non-functional. Other times it works, but then the game does not allow legitimate moves, like a rook taking a queen (Medium Puzzle #95, for instance - left rook is frozen). This puzzle is only "solvable" by letting the hint button make the moves.
Either the game makers fixed the black screen issue or Ice Cream Sandwich fixed it. Not sure. I gave up on this game for so long. Happy to be playing again... Even if it's incredibly dated and you have to press Home button to quit like some iPhone user.
Game has crashed a few times on my tablet. I wish I could synchronise progress on both my devices but, other than that it is a great game.
Bought this after seeing it at the stores. Love the game but the resolution doesn't fit my whole screen. Games do not load. They only flicker when I press next. I'm using the note4. Please fix. Does also not work at all on galaxy tab s2.
Hasn't been updated since 2011
The pieces do not draw themselves in the correct place on my note 5.
I can't play it on my galaxy S7

This app will help your understanding of attacking skills in chess
Love this app. Play often. Even my 9 year old grandson has finished many of the problems.
Please fix this! The game board blacks out all the time! I can't play!!!!!
Fun, challenging, lots of levels. That being said, they need to reformat it for android devices and larger screens.
Great game (4-5) on my old device (RAZR Maxx); however, on my new S5, boards and pieces briefly flash on the screen then go blank.
Paid version stopped working. Free version was very good.
Will not display the board or pieces. Was fixed, but stopped working again after verizon auto downloaded new sys update. Thank you verizon
I'm loving every second of it.
Great for any logic puzzle fan, no matter the chess experience. Fell in love with this simple apparently. Well worth the paid upgrade as the physical version is $20 to the apps $2.
Try to click on a peice many times and watch it moving a redundant move!!!!
Get black screen on playing board. I have Samsung Galaxy S3. Hopefully developers fix problem.
Great fun if you know chess. Recommended.
A wonderful way to rediscover chess
Excellent
Genius :)
Love it!
I love chess and with this app I feel like a champ. More so because it's just me!!!!!
brilliant+++ I have a handset and tablet and it plays great on both. Good use of tablet screen, great time killer. Highly recommended. Motorola Xoom
Excellent single-player puzzle game. Fun even if you aren't a big chess fan.
Doesn't expand to full tablet size. Refunded.
Good fun instructive look with ones mind eye
Great fun for any age.
Love it! Makes me brainier! :)

It was clear to me I wasted my money withing two minutes. It is twitchy to say the least. If a high school kid made it then good job. Otherwise you should be ashamed of the quality. Enjoy my two bucks.
E-mailed developers before posting this but, since I've had no response am now posting.
I've done 3/4 of the challenges. The difficulty ratings were inconsistent (some of the easy levels were more difficult than some of the hard levels), but the idea is superb. Easy to pick up, difficult to put down.... More puzzles, please!
If you like the free version, you'll love more of the same. Each difficulty has 100 puzzles!

The concept is simple, but the challenge is amazingly engrossing. It's fun, easy to learn, and the difficulty ramps up very well. All in all, a wonderful, flawless game.

Now completely broken & apparently unmaintained. Basic refresh bugs, blank play screens, unstable. Unplayable, after I paid money for it.
