About KillSud - killer sudoku

KillSud - Killer Sudoku is a variation of Sudoku, as described at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_sudoku

In addition to the rules of regular Sudoku, there are two more rules in KillSud:
1) The sum of all numbers in a cage must match the small number printed in its corner.
2) No number appears more than once in a cage.

Play the exciting game of KillSud and test your skills.

* KillSud contains over 4,000 puzzles ranging from fairly easy to really complicated in 6 levels of difficulty.
* A special sum calculator to help in choosing the numbers.
* Detailed help is available under "menu".
* AutoSave / AutoRestore of ongoing puzzle.
* Undo moves (no redo) - See Help for details.

If you encounter any bug in KillSud please e-mail the developer with details. Don't report it in reviews

NOTE1: Click the white area of the running timer to toggle showing elapsed time on/off.

NOTE2: The little purple box below the [new] button is an addition helper. Click on it and the sum of the "marked cage" is added.
To prevent adding the same cage twice, each cage can be added to the addition helper ONLY ONCE (until the helper is cleared)
Long-click the helper to clear it.

I love the game and rate it 5. But as noted elsewhere, something has happened with the latest version that detracts from its usability. It used to be very responsive. Now, if I try to put a string of options into a square, say I hit 1-2-3-4-5, only half or fewer will be recognised. If I do it very slowly, all are input and all works well. But the responsiveness of the previous version is lost. Is it possible to move back to the previous one, as this upgrade offers nothing that I need or appreciate. None of which detracts from an overall excellent app. Just let me go back one version to perfection....

This is a fantastic implementation of Killer Sudoku. It is well designed to play on a Galaxy Note, have not tried it on a small screen device. I have played it by the hour, it always provides a challenge. After a lot of use I discovered it has a very simple “adder” function which will let you quickly sum the cage values, especially helpful if you wish some a lot of them to work on an inney or outey cage. The Sums feature is very helpful, I especially like the way you can, with a bit of work, turn on transparency to see the puzzle. I wish the sub selection display was lighter so that the puzzle could be seen better. I have only picked the 1 star (simple) puzzles, and I found some of them very challenging. I have not found a good use for the “Allow Single Candidate” setting and I don’t use the Hint bottom. If I can’t solve it without a Hint I just go onto a new puzzle. This is the best game I have on my phone.

By far the best Killer Sudoku app I have come across. But I am still trying to work out the significance of the different coloured cells - if this is in the instructions, I haven't found it! And I really wish it was available for iPad - there is NO decent Killer Sudoku app on the Apple Store.

One of the best puzzle games out there. No ads. Good controls. Serious challenge. The most recent update messed up a few things, such as long-clicking a number no longer has tactile feedback. Still a great puzzle game!

Was a great app but much less easy to play after update, at least with default options. How do I load settings to improve things? AND. Seems broken after latest update. Deletes candidates automatically when this is not wanted. There does not seem to be an option in settings to prevent this. Also, as others have mentioned, the keypad seems much less responsive. Nowhere near as much of a pleasure to play as it was before. Trying to be much too clever.

by G####:

I have immensely enjoyed this game a few years, but since the addition of the double-tap clear feature the keypad misses many numbers unless you precisely hit the center of the pad at a lingering pace. This leads to frustration due to missed keystrokes during play. Previously you could fly on the keypad which provided a much more enjoyable gameplay. A setting to completely disable this feature and restore the prior responsiveness of the keypad would raise my rating back to five stars.

Love it! This app's got all the little tools required for heavy duty killer sudoku solving. It doesn't have 3d graphics and bells and whistles, but who needs those when you've got thousands of puzzles to solve? Only a 1.5 MB download, Killsud is easy on system resources. It doesn't ask for outrageous permissions and I'm sure doesn't spy on you. One thing I would really love to see is being able to sort the table of finished games on date or time.

I have been playing this for well over a year and am still fighting my way through the three star puzzles. However, the latest update has wrecked the ability to input data and half the time my number selection isn't recognised. Will have to put this away while I await a fix.

I thought I was good at these puzzles but these can need a lot of thought. I'm also having problems with the latest version. For me 3 and 6 seem to be particularly bad to enter quickly and clear seems to have stopped completely

Brilliant. Finished levels 1&2 and have not encountered any problems. Nice challenge. Thanks for persevering with the fix for the slide up menu. Rating 5, plus one for assuring user satisfaction!

Great game. What happened? The last update makes number keys so slow it is almost unplayable!

This is the best app for Killer Sudoku. It has been improved and has loads of very handy tools to help find and check the answers. I don't think there's a better one.

Well thought out app for playing Killer Sudoku with some nice tools and options. I have been playing it for some time now and enjoy a lot of the level 4 puzzles. However today I found that 4-844 has two different correct solutions but the alternate solution is not accepted. One addition I might suggest to the Sums tool is the option to eliminate some choices via e.g. tick box because I can see by inspection that certain options can't be viable. Saw your response but actually wanted something a bit more. For example, I'm currently doing 4-88 where along the bottom is a frame for 22 in 5 digits. I can see that it must contain 3 out of the 5 digits 46789 so in the SUMS window I can, by inspection, rule out several of the combinations. It would be very nice to be able to tap each combination that cannot work so that it then appears greyed out or perhaps crossed through. Just a suggestion but IMHO would be a very useful enhancement to an already excellent game.

Great app, smooth and trouble-free. Ads not intrusive. Neat and very convenient controls, temp marking is top for a Sudoku-related app. It last you long time ????

G70%

There's a problem with the latest update which makes it much harder to solve a game. Up to now, you've been able to enter a single number as a 'candidate' in empty cells - in other words, a possible correct answer that's still got to be confirmed. So you might have a cage where you know there's got to be a 9 - for example, where the three-digit cage adds up to 22 - but you don't know exactly where. So in the past I could write 9 , 9, 9 in the empty cells. No more. The first number you enter now always appears full size, in bold black, where it used to be small like any other candidate. If I now type 9, 9, 9 they'll all remain full-sized, the first will stay black and the two others will turn red. Pretty soon it gets so confusing you'll be unable to read the board. Could you fix this please?

C70%
by C####:

The latest update has slowed it down. If I want to type three digits into a cell, previously I could type very quickly. Since the update, if I type too quickly, it misses one of the first digits. Otherwise, first class.

Clunky confusing design. Better similar apps available

C70%
by C####:

Lost trust in its accuracy now: Despite saying no errors, left me with cages which were impossible to fill without errors. Only accepted digits then meant cage totals were completely wrong (3-806, top middle 3x3 group)

Well designed app, but could we have the old clear button back please? This modern idea of updates that aren't an improvement I find a bit irritating

Killer sudoku makes you use your brain cells! Glad to be able to enter possible numbers. I don't use the sum function, but do use the hints. It's great! Just got a Google notebook, but can't find a version for that format. :( These old eyes like larger formats!

Last software update really spoiled this. Shame. It wasn't "broke" but they "fixed" it anyway.

C70%

Easy to use, the sums feature is especially handy. Good pencil mode, in that it's not a separate mode that you have to switch back and forth from. You can set it up to let the last number remaining be your answer for that square, very seamless, as opposed to other implementations of these kinds of games which have a lot of fussing in between modes. Well done! I'm now a big fan of Killer Suduko, and I doubt I'll ever run out of puzzles there's so many! Thanks! (BTW, I had set up my options years ago and so had forgotten that to clear and undo one needs to LONG CLICK on the clear/undo buttons themselves--a settings option. (It's a multi-step undo too, which is great). However, having forgotten there was such a setting--I'm pretty sure it's the default--it APPEARED that Clear and Undo were broken when in fact they work perfectly.. I'm mentioning this because several others have reported them broken as well. Maybe some text near the bottom indicating long press is needed? For those of us whose memories are toast? ;-)

As other reviewers have said, the new version is poor in relation to its predecessors, much less controllable, much more interference. It's such a shame.

Kinda boring so I must miss the point. Somewhat of a challenge to figure out the sequences without using the check button but that is it.

Great until you accidentally push a number twice and all of the others on the row and box disappear with no reverse.

Update Dec 2017. Despite the variations in difficulty and the last update, I haven't found a better app for this. Upgrading review to 5 stars. I've played all the level 5 games at least twice and am now on my 3rd run through. Also all the level 6 games Update others said. This is a downgrade. Wish I could revert to the previous version. The keys are less sensitive than before so many number entries don't work, unless you really slow down. Tactile feedback is disabled on normal number input, this also slows things down. The extra enforced long press on clear really gets in the way. Should have been an option, like the other changes. Plays much slower as a result. Pity. Not sure what bugs have been fixed, there was only one affecting me - occasional bad screen display after using the permutations calculator. Comment's to previous versions: Heavy revision here. The bugs I complained about before have been fixed. Have tried other killer sudoku apps, none works as well as this one. Good game, I'm addicted, the many trivial and buggy releases are gone. There's a lot of variation in difficulty between puzzles in one level. Sometimes a level 4 is harder than level 6. Need more puzzles, Especially at level 5/6. Pity the developer seems to have lost interest, otherwise the latest changes wouldn't have happened - or would have been made optional.

Could improve on different colors for each group, plus drag controls and calculator. Still, it's a very nice app!!
