弱小出版社に勤める主人公(由依)は上司から都市伝説を集めた記事を出すことを求められる。
街に赴き、人々が反応しそうなオカルト話を集めに行くのだが、道すがら出会った怪しげな老婆から地域にまつわる都市伝説を聞けることに。
ただし、交換条件として老婆から渡された木製の人形を育てること…

その木製の人形が都市伝説を聞き、広まる度にそれを糧として成長しているように見えるのだが…
次第に崩壊しゆく由依の人間性、歯止めの掛からない恐怖と絶望。
