Backgammon Mobile - Online

Probably the only BG game on the Play store that uses a proper, non-cheeting engine. This is possible because the developer ported the open source GNU Backgammon engine which is more than great. However the developer needs to improve on the controls and the stability. For example for just several games I hit a stopship bug twice, which does not allow you to bear your checkers out.

I would rate this much more highly as it is an excellent player but its throws from the bar are incredulously accurate. This has varied from 6 - 11% better over approx 45000 throws each at world class level using their own stats.

Very strong AI engine though it sometimes gives up too many points upon resignation. I would give this 5 stars if that is fixed and two features were added: 1. toggle prompt for double during the game. There is nothing more frustrating than bring asked if you want to double before every move when you're completely blocked and will remain blocked for a while. 2. Auto move option if your move is forced. Perhaps add a fast forward feature along with auto move so you can skip ahead to when you have an actual decision to make. Overall, great app.

What else can I say? Impossible to reach FIBS dye to comms errors, being unable to end some games properly. This app loses pace with the FIBS server, failing to refresh the board with the actual game position, forcing you to stop, restart and then pray for the app to reconnect to the sqme game without any major problem. The worst is the FIBS client drops connection whenever the mobile switches networks, dropping the game, major nuisance. Disgusting.

Once again another backgammon app where the dice are stacked against you 4 out of 5 games the the computer got perfect rolls to block me in, while it took me over 5 throws to get off the bar, how frustrating!

Just installed today and have already had a problem with not bearing off. GNU Backgammon is the best neural net program out today but this port has problems.

Smarter engine than other mobile competitors, but still prone to some obvious mistakes. It's most noticable with unnecessary resignations, even sometimes forfeiting a backgammon when a modest roll would only result in a gammon. The playability - particularly the sluggish pip selection and single ply undo option - are pretty terrible, though, and frequent ads right where you're going to click don't help. There are also a few bugs: sometimes it prevents bearing off, and the export feature doesn't work.

Graphics weren't great but not very terrible. Text is stretched on Burks and hard to read. No FIBS sign on.

The only android app that can connect to fibs. Why can't I start multi game match online? This is a serious drawback.

Great implementation of gnubg. I wish there was an easy way to toggle asking if you want to double, I wish you could undo easily without having to go through options, and I wish you could remove the pause on telling you there are no legal moves. Basically I want to be able to play fast.

Can not get a game. Once i did find a player i had no dice. Played a bot, got to roll my dice then when it was the bots turn it did not move. Rubbish app.

When in single mode, game sometimes gets stuck and I can't bear off.

Export doesn't work anymore. Sometimes pieces don't move in single player mode. These bugs needs fixing.

Dice not random as with original Gnu backgammon. Also does not follow same rules as Gnu.

Has all the bells and whistles single play others its quick lots of levels but you just cant beat the dice doubles against you when you look like winning about to delete

This app could be the best bg app if only we could play more than one point game on fibs and Tigger gammon.

18% higher stats off the bar for CPU after 1500 throws each.

Uninstalled. Cheats on all levels. Thanks for the gameplay over the past couple of years

Great AI but not so good 2 player

Dice throws are amazingly better for the cpu on my phone compared to gnu backgammon on other platforms and larger devices. Gnu should be embarrassed by this port but they were the reason I installed this app. However, dice throws from a blot on the bar or elsewhere are ridiculously accurate, almost predictable and often doubled for cpu even against a one in six opening and appear to be manipulated elsewhere. Disappointing.

The dice appear loaded against you in many games is played at advance level. I had recently tried all the different levels but after an update today the stats have reverted to a previous time and show only the advance level games

I really like this game. At the grandmaster level it 'seems' that it gets the best roll and I get the worst at times. A couple of suggestions. Keep stats at a match level, allow undue move as far back as desired to replay the same game differentiy. Finally sometimes the first bear off is not allowed unless you save and restart.

They continue to improve the app. It works better than ever, lots of features, quick response when playing computer but a little slow when playing friends & a little hard to join when first starting game with another Google player. Still though it is awsome & my fav backgammon app so far!

If you accuse cheating, try manual dice.

After playing many times it became evident that game is rigged.

I love the export feature

Visually appealing, and interface is nice. Connect to servers to play humans. Difficulty settings allow for challenging yet enjoyable game. On hi-difficulty, people will tell you that the "ai" cheats. Statistically, there is a normal distribution of players, and those at the extremes of the curve will experience being screwed over again and again by apparently rigged dice. Please continue to work out your bad backgammon karma. Investigate gnu bg to see how bad your moves are. Alca-coop please add hint mode!

Feature-less. Poorly designed interface doe online play. Wouldn't even comment on AI.

Sometimes it won't let me play a legal move. End game AI and resignation AI is bad

automatically makes me double when I dont and wont let me undo those "moves" etc. And way to many annoying adds; there are ways to include adds w/o making them annoying you know!? Just cheated me another way: I had two men on the 1 pt and ready to backgammon him (he had men in my board)... He resigned the game giving me 2x instead of being bkgammonned for 3x!! What a cheat!
