I would prefer their to be a D-Pad like interface in the bottom right (or left depending on users handedness). I would prefer this accommodation over the tap in the direction you want to go because, it allows a user to familiarize themselves with the area associated with with movement allowing for a quicker response time in the game. I found that difficult with the tap anywhere approach. If it's done this way for the game to be more difficult then I understand the choice. The game scales well inbetween devices and, I found it to work best on tablets or 4.5 inch+ phones. However, those with smaller devices can get used to it.
