يمثل التراث النوبي، جزءا أصيلا من مكونات الهوية المصرية وامتدادا للحضارة الفرعونية، إلا أن هذا التراث الذي يغتني بالحضارة النوبية، بما تحويه من فنون وموسيقى وعمارة وتقاليد، يتعرّض، حسب آراء متخصصين، إلى ظلم كبير؛ نظرا لإهماله على مدار عقود طويلة.

النوبة تسميتها مستمدة من الكلمة الهيروغليفية «نوب» وتعني «الذهب»، ويرجع أصل التسمية إلى عهد الفراعنة، عندما كانت هذه المنطقة تحتوي على العديد من مناجم الذهب في منطقة وادي العلاقي؛


تقع أرض النوبة فيما بين ملتقى النيلين الأبيض والأزرق عند الخرطوم في الجنوب، والجندل الأول عند أسوان في الشمال، وبعد بناء السد العالي تغيرت جغرافية المنطقة، وتحولت تمامًا عند هذه النقطة الفاصلة والحاسمة في حياة النوبيين.
