Alite for Android
I played Elite a LOT in my youth. This is a pretty faithful recreation of the timeless classic. Unfortunately it is very difficult to control on my nvidia shield tablet. Flying whilst having to tilt the tablet to control your ship isn't great. I haven't got one of the nvidia game controllers, and don't know if it would improve controllability....
Great port of the classic game. Graphics are amazing and controls easy to use. Just one or two niggles on my phone: sometimes the yaw control fails and won't let me rotate left or right; if you engage the docking computer and then browse other screens then you can no longer disengage the computer.
If this isn't identical to the original then I can't spot the difference, except maybe the graphics! Great to play and works fine. The occasional crash when opening, but always opens second time, is not worth losing a star for. Even better than the version I had on my BBC model B!!
Philipp has pulled a blinder here! Fantastic game...I'm not a gamer. I'm just a kid who loved Elite in it's day. Thanks for bringing it to Android and doing it so well...on the other hand I can't help feeling guilty for wasting many more hours of my life!
I like the game, but I'm a little confused. My money dropped from 700 to 300 for no reason, and after buying a fuel scoop, I didn't have it after two flights. Can items like this be destroyed in battle? If anyone knows, Please let me know. Still like the game.
I loved the original. I mean I absolutely loved it. This is the best development of the original by far. Its such a faithful copy, with better graphics, its untrue. But the nostalgia for me at least has gone. Nothing can be taken away from the game, but I just don't enjoy it. Its not the game - 10/10 and if you liked the original play this! Just 30 years is a long time
I want to like it. But the controls are so useless I can't play. Also, in the original you could see the trade prices for nearby planets and plan your route. Without that, your just floating aimlessly, blowing fuel money on lossmaking trips.
It's just like I remember it! (someone put some time into this...). I did make 'Elite' on the pc, even got to the Certificate screen! (went through 10-20 joysticks to do it. Hate to think I'm going to have to go through 10-20 smartphones to do the same...).
Ok in the early stages but as soon as the ship is fully specced there is little else to do. Trapped flying the same ship without hope of upgrading this adequate 'Elite' interpretation soon becomes an aimless trading space game. Would have been better if the ships listed in the guide were available to the player, a carrot on too long a stick for me. Uninstalled after twenty hours, became stale and uninteresting. Sorry :-(
Controls are difficult. Docking is pretty much impossible. If anyone has any tips for docking that work, may give more stars. Also not liking flying blind on trading, no way of telling what planets want what, and trade prices.
Played elite on first gen home pc. This is everything you could expect. Same game play, same features but vastly upgraded graphics. I particularly like the automatic reset of the tablet play angle every time you launch or hyper jump. Saves the cramp of holding tablet in one position. Online help is well executed. And all the controls are really responsive on the tab pro. Hi res screen aids aiming. 11 out of 10. Brought back memories of the vector graphics original now in glorious technicolor. If there are any weaknesses, they are the same as the original game. Huge grin. A good space game on android. Any chance of doing the same for the wing commander series?
Just like the orignal... with all its frustation. Sitting through looooong minutes of nothing while in low speed mode is truly 80s and it will give you time and chance for meditation... or finding another game. None of the accelerometer settings worked for me. No1 knows only positives on both axes and No2 is a hot mess. Had to fall back to the gamepad. I find that tablet screen sizes seem to be a limitation. I think the game is too accurate a copy.
im old enough to have played the original zx spectrum wireframe game, and those released on c64, amiga and early pc releases and i loved them all. So when i found this i was slightly sceptical. But my worries were short lived this is an excellent game and im hooked. goodbye life.
Mostly the same pain in the neck game, that is highly addictive. Easier start than the original, but same docking, same combat, and navigation. I even fell right back into my old style of combat. Will be interesting to find out if they have the same missions.
I have long wanted Elite on Android, and these guys have not disappointed me. Same game play that kept me absorbed for hours on the old BBC Model B back in the day, and better graphics - our Android devices have a good bit more than 32k to play with
Nice homage to Elite, but lacking the ability to replace the Cobra with anything else dulls it completely. There is no long term goal. This means it is just another nicely made time waster, not the epic that it could be.
Absolutely brilliant remake of the original This is one of the few truly free games that look and play just as good (more so) than a paid for game. Suggested improvements for later versions: Buyable targetting computer that gives ypu a status of an enemy shields and energy. Buyable laser coolant tbat decreases weapon overheat rate. Ability to buy other ships and fly them (Id so love to try out a Wolf or an Asp).
Virtually agreed with everything everyone said in their reviews about both Alite present day and Elite almost four decades ago. Everyone is pretty spot on... except for the dude that reckons its crap and not to download it. If you dont download it, you dont know what your missing.
I won't lie. The graphics aren't that good. But it is a tribute to the Elite series. (Also it's a 3D space sim). But there is something I have a tinyyyyy problem with. No strafing. Idk why it's not a thing.
You little beauty! Great game from the past. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. One of my all time favorites. GREAT JOB! I hope to see "Alite 2 Frontier" on the horizon... no pressure lol
I spent hours a day for years on end playing elite when it first came out. Been looking for an android port for years as I thought it would work well, this guy has nailed it. I played oolite before on the pc so you've mixed the old school game and updated parts to make it both true to the original just nicer to enjoy compared to my Acorn Electron. Thanks for using the accelerometer!
So many raving reviews, why? The controls are so difficult and 8/10 times i crash trying to dock. It takes soo long to get to the other side of the station so i can dock, it is just frustrating, it looks like it can be fun, but sadly its so hard to get started, 90 minutes and still can do anything much.
Looked for ages for something like Elite to play on a tablet some years ago. Tried a Gba emulator version that was unplayable. This is perfect
I've been looking for this game on Android for years. Its not short of bugs tho. Sometimes the sound just cuts out, but if you force stop the app and restart it sorts it. I'm enjoying the game.
Cool game but have some issues stopping it from getting 5 stars: I used the huge bomb to destroy a fleet of thargon ships and only received a bounty for one of them. What a waste. Is there any point using galactic drive? Seems like it's the same generic planets over and over again and nothing new. No point using it? Trading is the only realistic way to make money. Bounties, even thargoid, are too small.
Poor... Played this game back in the day on an acorn electron... There were never as many ships trying to destroy you as there is in this version. Game play is ridiculously difficult so unfortunately so uninstalling
Its Elite. It's Amiga version. That's enough for me. Never thought in a million light years that one day I would be playing this on a hand held device. Loved it. Developers, you rock!
This is a six star game when you fix the AI problem at the jewrey factory. The major problem is no just that my traders get stuck but the whole universes economy gets backed up and then you cant trade any where. As of now the game is broken.
Haven't done much yet but the tutorial is good. Clear directions Easy to understand. The only thing i didn't understand is how to pick up the cargo after destroying a ship. Its the very last thing and the only thing not explained.
Ha ha. Im hooked all over again. Love this game. The tilt controls get some getting used too. But it worth it :-D x faithful conversion.
This is a truly magnificent version of the game. So smooth and playable yet retaining the atmosphere and depth of the original. I too would like to see a wireframe version. Back in the mists of time the Elite community regarded the vector-like display more as a control console display and not necessarily a representation of a view from a window out into space. Having said that the graphics here are very well done. I never thought I would ever play this on a tablet. Five stars without a doubt.
Love it, could do with a pause button though. I can switch to home screen, but game will often crash on return.
Even while struggling to overcome the bug, simply incredible. A flashback to being young, pimpled and addicted to elite. Plz fix the problem for galaxy tab 6 (2016) so I can really play.
I first played this on the Commodore Amiga back in 1991 and loved the game. So much so I completed the whole game, missions, everything the game offered. Over the last few years, with the invention and improvement of smart phones, I have looked for Elite or a game of similar quality. Many games tried to copy or simulate Elite and fell seriously short. Imagine my surprise and delight to not only find a simulation of Elite but Elite itself, albeit retitled! A HUGE thank you to the producer / s of this game.
Die hard Elite fan here and have fallen in love with the classic all over again. Used to play on my c64, now on a top of the line tablet. Times have changed, but this game shall forever remain timeless. Top marks to the developer. You've done a fantastic job.
Update.. ok I already wrote that I love the game, rated overall 4 stars hoping you go farther then the original, like new ships to buy/fight and planetary based trading spots... After playing for 2 days finally ran into the aliens (thanks for that, lol) but one huge thing missing from the game is the ability to jump to another local planet in an emergency, me and everyone I knew that played always used that as a last minute (or 10 second) bale out..
Not having played Elite, but Frontier on my amiga, this conversion seem way too simple: no newtonian physics, no ads, no missions, and controls are difficult to implement. Three stars for the graphics and the effort.
Faithful and fantastic recreation of the classic game. I don't play many games on a phone as they are normally poor but the controls for this are perfect.
Great game thanks for this, I've been waiting for something like this forever. Only request which is probably somewhat impossible. Is planetary landing like oolite but like I said probably not possible on a smart phone. Still a fantastic game!!!!

This is just like playing Elite! What an incredible port this is. The UI is fantastic. I believe I'm correct in saying that this is the developers first 3D game, and he knocked it out of the park on his first go. I managed to find the cheat code to unlock the debug menu which gives you access to invulnerability, as many credits as you want, and a whole load of extras including missions. Brilliant game! Thanks to the developers!!
