NetHack

This is da 5 star game. The very best mobile game available. Nethack combines deeply challenging gameplay with random dungeon and character generation. Easy to fall in love with but will break your heart time and time again. See you in Sokoban!

Its considered a minor problem, but with no other ailments besides a cursed item, praying seems to do nothing for cursed items. But besides that, I can't see anything wrong besides half my choices in game, great port.

Playing nethack on my tablet is just as fun as playing on my computer! Before this app I hadn't yet had a good experience with a roguelike android port. Five stars if I could figure out how to put extended commands and ^d type commands on the command panels. Great work!

addictive. really sucks to die when you have a bag of holding and tons of holy water, magic marker... everything is going well... my Monk wished for the Eye of the Aethiopica... I knew there would be a painful flash, so I made sure to lock myself in a closet... but I failed to note that the flash also happens when you put it on! died right there in the closet. fun.

I won't lie, there are better versions of NetHack out there. However, after some shopping around, I've found this to be the best mobile version by far. If your phone has a keyboard, this works perfectly with that. If it doesn't, the game can take some getting used to. Moving around by tapping on the screen is an inexact science, and it really bothers me that the default user interface somehow doesn't have buttons for going up and down stairs, but I feel like this is the best job that could be done porting NetHack to a mobile device, and I really like the interface for building customized button layouts, so this is a very solid 4 out of 5 app. My only complaint is that I've had some frustrations with finding and modifying the defaults.nh file to suit my preferences.

Very good app. My only complaint is I wish I could change the size of the buttons. They were perfect on my old, larger phone, but now I feel like the buttons are too small.

I've played numerous versions of Nethack over the years. My first computer, back around 89, came with a version installed. This, however, is the first time I've been unable to get past the first level, for a lack of doors. Everything is a dead end. Maybe I'm missing something, but I never had this issue with any of the other versions I've played.

This port is the best port of Nethack I have ever played on! A small request to the developer: can you please also port "cataclysm DDA" ?

I have never made it far in Nethack, but I'm in love with it. Great android port - but the UI, quite understandably, is pretty hard to use effectively.

I just have one question since I can't find it... Is it possible to make an angband android port with the same control scheme where you don't need the keyboard but can have buttons to do the specific thing.

Tons better than the iOS version and using the newest vanilla build. I do miss the "original" 32x32 typeset I've used for over half my life, but the Nevanda ones are growing in me. Best game for the price!!!

Too difficult now. It affects the fun adversely.

I've been playing this game for many years but after the last few updates can't get past about L5. Not sure what has been changed but it was hard enough to begin with!

This is an excellent roguelike game. Years of adventure here. Think of it as chess and a puzzler in a dungeon. You can change the graphics in settings. As an android port, it's useful for a novice to learn the keys. Gurr is cool. Hack on!

Harsh and unforgiving. Amazing adventure in the palm of your hand. Once you get the hang of the commands your off.

Update: NetHack 3.6.0 update had minor saving and command panel problems on my devices, but developer was extremely helpful and communicative, and they were solved in short order. Been playing this port for 6+ years, and its still top notch, with an amazing solution to the traditional keyboard commands! Highly recommended! Thank you gurr!

This is my favorite port of nethack to a touch screen. The command scrollview and directional/movement touch makes the interface enjoyable. I like the pinch zoom a lot. The game should be built with the latest SDK but luckily it is open source.

I've been a fan of nethack for a few years now, and that couldn't have happened without people making mobile ports of it. Works great, lots of customization options and has my favorite, hard to find tileset: absurd. Thanks for all the time you put into this!!!

This port makes Nethack playable on phones if you take the time going through all the settings so that the main commands are within easy reach. For example, displaying the movement keys within reach of a thumb. Might be worth adding to future updates an ability to switch to a couple of alternative layouts to give folk an idea of what can be done. Also for folk new to the game if you long press on a command you can change the displayed text for it, including using emojis

I'm perfectly happy with the old version. Unhappy with the inability to keep old saves if I did want to upgrade.

Love how it takes so little ram. Less than most ebooks. Currently, im having trouble accessing the menu. When i toush it, it goes in briefly and restarts the game

Same here. Reported a minor bug and it was fixed when I woke up the next day!
