Magic 2015 for Android
TIP can reselect the 2 colors for your free starter deck before and immed. after first game with it. PROS great way to get back in the game without an investment or convincing friends/wife to play. The tutorials and single player mode are excellent with beautiful art renditions. True to life feel. CONS auto draw cards. Small font. Tiner timer is difficult to pause on 5.2" screen. The app drains at same pace as my fast charger with screen dimmed.
Edit: took a star off because I just found out it's $10 to play past the first part of the campaign or any multiplayer. I got started playing Magic on Duels for Steam, and it's an easy transition to this. Maybe even better than the PC version. Massive card selection and great campaign and builder, all for free, with expansions available for purchase if you choose.
I love magic the gathering it's one of the best TCGs in the world. I love the fact that they took mana burn out. It does bring the hell out of your battery but what app does it now a days? I don't know if this is available on this game but they should let you add your actual cards via code from the real cards.
Great game, a lot of fun. Only problem is one your done with the first tutorial then complete the first mission your required to pay $10 for the next senario. Also if you want to play multiplayer that's another $5. Practice matches $5, extra cats $10. I'm not paying $50 for this game just to play it. Should say demo in the definition. I would play and possibly buy a few things if I didn't have to pay for everything!!!! Still fun though
My initial thoughts when seeing it at first: "oh, a magic game, cool" playing through the first set of campaign rounds, it says to continue, I need to pay to unlock further content. I figure, I guess I'll just play practice matches or something. Nope, practice is also pay to access. This is just a demo. I refuse to pay to play for a pay to win game. The gameplay was decent while it lasted. Zoom in/out response not so great but I understood what the cards did and how to play from the game.
great game for 5 minutes, until you can't do anything else or unlock any cards because they expect you to pay 10 dollars to actually play the game past the tutorial. why not just set the price to 10dollars from the start? because it's a ripoff. I expected better from WotC... won't be purchasing anything from them ever again.
After 6 tutorial levels and 4 campaign levels its over unless you are willing to pay. Even the practice levels are locked. I'm going to find my pc version Magic the Gathering with its expansions and try to get it running on win7. It did play without errors and graphics are nice but progression is not saved over multiple devices, just the achievements..
Takes some time to find your deck. Multiple options and very time consuming but worth it. Hint don't skip the tutorial. If you do....good luck. As a beginner, Im very happy with their in depth tutorial. Good game overall. I find this game like hearth stone but better. It honestly feels like a good balence between deck heroes(very easy and addictive) and hearthstone. Im not sure why but I find this game to make more sense than hearthstone.
This game should be advertised as a demo. You're allowed to play one level (which is 4 separate matches) in the campaign and given access to the deck builder portion. Anything extra requires a TEN DOLLAR purchase. That's too much, WotC. It's too much for a fully functional game, even, which this game IS NOT. Mobile data doesn't work, and the game requires a sign-in to Google. I'm using an S7 Edge on 6.0 and a Galaxy Tab 4 on Android 5.1, mobile data is nonfunctional on both.
Magic is obviously a great and fun game. This particular app is pretty awesome except the having to pay part. The game is also a little slow loading wise. Paid the 9.99 and the next few campaigns are nice and challenging but there isn't that much after the free play. Now need to pay more to keep going and of course to get more cards that are just virtual. No resale or trade value there or even the ability to trade...
Could use a controls tutorial, however the only thing that confused me is how to zoom in on the card. The game is extremely well designed and gives the full magic experience without the need for extremely pricy cards. Besides that being able to port over your physical cards would be nice as well, thanks for an amazing game, an excellent game not just to pass time but play with friends as well.
Needs card trading. The game takes forever to download on good wifi. This game takes up ALOT of memory. You cant trade cards, Its still 4 of 5 stars. Great game play. Great graphics. Runs smooth. Just like table top. Worth the download only if your ok with spending 20$ for DLC. I was cuz there's no other MTG app game worth it.
For starters, what you get for free is the first 4 duels. After that you have to pay to unlock the full game. Which is fair enough because this is a quality game. The controls are intuitive to anyone who has played mtg tabletop. I didn't bother with the tutorial and found it easy to pick up. You get a booster for each duel you win, so you can quickly get into the deck building element, which is easy to pick up. Works well on my note 4. No stability issues so far, it's all run smooth and fast.
Nice app. Takes a bit to get used too. Requires purchese to unlock more campain paid 9.99. Will see how far that gets me let ya know if worth jt. But unlocked campain and multiplayer with that. Bring on the fun. Woot woot. Update coming soon on rating... Unlocks quite a bit don't need to spend a ton to enjoy though jus a lil for first unlock rest are cheap still fun downloaded few times now. Excellent.
(Note 3) A bit slow, not laggy, the animations are slow. The text and buttons are quite small. Cards you start with force 3+ colored decks. That being said. They did a great job pulling off a very large and visually pleasing game like this for mobile. Very playable. And a hell of a lot cheaper than actual Magic. Looking forward to mobile MTGO.
Next to impossible to play on a small mobile device. Magic is a good game, the app development is beyond poor. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the potential here. Please hire an actual development team to code an app for an already existing game that is user friendly while incorporating a reasonable method to pay themselves and the owners of the "Magic" trademark. $10 a level?? This "team of developers" obviously has no clue.
Amazingly well done, but it really needs to work in the zoom section. When you don't know any card in the game, it's really slow to double tap each different card. Also, the font is very small, even in my 5" smartphone. So a great update should gave larger letter font and a way better way to read and look at the battlefield, which by the way, is also small. I would put the mana size smaller and the important cards larger.
Like so many others, it kept force closing in the last part of the tutorial. I eventually got a great start and killed him off quickly and got to advance to the next part. Now the game will load all the way to either the main menu and nothing further. Is there a way you can make this not use so much memory? I'm a MtG fan and have played for a few years now and would love to be able to play on the go. I will not uninstall the game so I do receive updates, I will change the rating once playable. TY.
I downloaded the game last night and played it for hours no problem, I love the game. But today for some reason it's having me log into my Google account over and over again and it's not actually letting me play the game at all. I would give more stars, but I can't even play the game. I've never played magic before and was thinking about getting into the physical card game but decided to try this out first, now I don't even want to play this game at all. Please fix.
Fab game and was enjoying however... I completed the first scenario and thought cool... the game said congratulations you have unlocked Theos... so I went to try it... boom you actually have to pay about £7.50 to carry on its not unlocked at all amongst other chargeable things. Ordinarily this would be OK but I collect the magic cards and that would be money I could use for physical things. It should state demo. Like many apps you can only get so far without paying something.
it's good that wizards of the coast collaborated with stainless to create something that caters to upcoming players so they can learn how to play the game. This is never meant to be for the old players as this is a newbie friendly game. this can be a good pasttime for the oldies but never to have the full magic the gathering experience. play the physical card game if you want that. or if you really want it digital, go for magic online. with that said, this is an awesome game overall.
Fundamentally its good but once you beat the campaign theres not alot to do. I'd like to go chase after packs but they only come from online victories and people always leave just before I win which replaces them with an A.I. so I don't get credit for the win. Please change this I don't want to get penalized for people quitting
Hello I really enjoyed this game when it first came out. But after awhile I quit playing and then decided to start playing it again and to get the new expansion. I purchased a new phone then installed it and thought since it was linked to Google account all would be fine. I was wrong. I would have to repurchase the original game and then purchase the expansion. I had around 10 custom decks I spent a great deal of time creating and they are all gone. So not worth in the long run. Good bye magic
The promise each year is bigger and better. This didn't hold true. Yes it is better in some features than 2014. The MTG 2014 was a better game. 2015 didn't improve on the experience. It's a darn shame that WOTC didn't see the need to port an android version of their 2016 version. (DUELS). Maybe if 2015 had more significant features than 2014, it would have sold better.
Even though i could never play this game on my old android devices even my tablet. When i finally got my upgrade tried one last time and it finally works without the bugs or the downloading issues i had before. MTG is my favorite card game of all time but i only can play it online cause its to sophisticated in the physical version but i loved it once it worked. Its a 5 star if you get it running properly.
For learning, this is OK, or to get your MTG fix. But better options out there if you have PC. Steam Duels allows one to learn and earn packs, Hearthstone allows play to earn, heck, even Pokemon CCG allows the kids to play their physical packs online. Except Hearthstone, other better options are non-mobile. Still haven't found alternative for mobile card game.
I think they did a great job porting into a mobile game. There are some changes I would love to see on like having the back button work on all screens... And not just two of them, but it will is able to be worked around. It is a great tutorial for beginning players that are brand new to the game.
Crystal clear graphics, smooth interface, and easy controls. The game takes me back to the good old days playing FNM against other DCIM players and trading cards with them. Definitely worth the 1.46GB, just make sure you download on Wi-Fi or you'll kill your data for the month. No ads is a plus towards the 5 star rating I gave this. May be from 2015 but the date doesn't change how immersed you will get into it. It's great for beginners as it teaches you how to pay the real game if you have the actual cards.
This app is horrible about force closing during loading screen. I have been a magic fan for a while and have played several other magic the gathering games. I enjoyed this when it actually let me play but it seems every time I play it force closes. It won't let me use the store at all, it tells me to sign in then I try it will not sign in. It won't load up the decks at all. please fix for higher ratings anyone who enjoys magic I recommend trying shadow Era it has great art and very good all around
I really enjoy this game. Alot.. I like how it's setup and you get to play magic. But I feel as though the card draws aren't actually random. It seem like the a.i. gets an unlimited amount of land cards. Every turn the a.i. lays one down. While I am lucky to get 3 land cards and when I draw new cards I pick up a land card maybe 1 out every 3 draws. If your not going to randomize the a.i.'s deck then a least give option to veiw opponents deck to allow player to setup for better balancing
Update: the new issue I have is when I play campaign. My last issue got resolved when I deleted some files from my phone. So I'm gonna try that again. But if this is a fame that requires a lot of space why isn't it able to be moved to the SD card? I've looked and it won't give me the option to do it
Best game ever it definitely helps me keep my skills up because I actually play magic in real life. On top of that it helps you be able to learn how to build decks with only certain cards. So keep up the amazing work. Also I was wondering if you guys have all the cards up to the newest set in this game if you guys don't I would love if you could add them and also add options to where you can set it to where you can I want to build a standard deck and you can only use cards that you have that are legal in standard right now. So basically keep up with the new cards that come out and add them and if you decide to add a feature to where you can set it to where you can choose what kind of deck you want to build like a standard deck it follows all the current rules for magic.
Okay so I would give this game 5 stars if I could log into google games to access multiplayer and purchasable content without being connected to wifi. I have noticed many other users commenting on this as well - sadly this has been an ongoing issue for months. I am not always in a position where I am able to be connected via wifi and as a fan of mtg I enjoy being able to play multiplayer. Please fix this Other than that I have no complaints and thoroughly enjoy this app and also have magic 2015 on my xbox.
All the reviews mentioning bugs are true, and I've encountered them all. I'll voice the same opinion as others: this game has so much potential, I just hope WotC can get it together to deliver a great MtG experience on smartphones. Will be more than happy to change my rating after they are able to address all the issues this app has, and I'm able to really spend time with it. For short, DON'T INSTALL.
Great game, highly addictive. Only reason it won't get five stars from me is because I can't play the next plane. I recently starting playing it (4 hours of game time) I've unlocked the next plane but can't play it. I'm told I need to sign in and no matter how many times I try to sign in it won't work. Not a problem that I have with any of my other games or apps. Practice duel only gets you so far, I want to play campaign
Game is great and cannot fault gameplay. However, i cannot access the shop, expansion or multiplayer as it tells me to sign in. I have purchased the full game and when i select my goggle account after pressing sign in, it says signing in and then doesnt do anything. I can press the same button to keep signing in but never goes anywhere... please fix it...or give me a refund
I admit, this game didn't look very promising at first, and I only got it after getting Hearthstone since they are both card games, in the end though, does this game deliver? The answer is yes. This game takes some getting used to but once you learn the ropes it is very, very fun. Some people seem to be experiencing bugs. Me? I am on a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and haven't had any. Have fun Planeswalkers!
Magic the gathering has always been a little intimidating to me. I've always been interested in it but could never find anyone that was able to teach me effectively. This game did excellent teaching me the basics and explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. Plus it gives you an opportunity to play with a lot of different deck styles so you can figure out which approach works best for you without having to pay money for the actual cards.
It has several issues. It will kick you out of games. Sometimes it completely quits while trying to create a deck, go through the card collection, or just at random. When it does work it is quiet entertaining. Fix the issues and will improve star rating. Bought the full game which is 10 bucks. I like MTG so I don't mind the price. The 2G install is way too hefty!

I remember playing magic as a kid. Oh nostalgia, I don't have many comic store where I live to go and play the cards so this is a decent substitute. Nothing like face to face dueling tho :). Great game. 1. Update 5/18/16: it won't let me unlock my purchase after reading downloading it and won't stay logged into my Google games account. Help please
