About Crystal Defenders

Crystal Defenders is a defensive strategy game in which players deploy popular jobs from FINAL FANTASY Tactics A2, such as Black Mages and Soldiers, to fend off encroaching enemy hordes and prevent them from stealing their party's crystals. Players can enjoy 240 stages of action in one of two different game versions: W1 and W2. In W1, players can learn game basics. In W2, the introduction of Power Crystals opens up new doors, allowing for deeper, more detailed strategies.

◆Game Objectives & Features:

- Deploy units on the area map to protect crystal reserves from encroaching monster hordes.
- Monsters will enter an area and march through it until they are defeated or reach an exit, at which time they will steal one or more crystals.
- Simple touch panel-driven controls and up-tempo play make Crystal Defenders easily accessible whether at home or on the go.
- Innovative level design allows for high replayability.

Looked like it would have been fun but on my 7" tablet the screen only loads up in the corner (about the size of an average smartphone) that would have been okay but the touch screen calibration was full size so I had to guess where to hit about 2" to the right and down a little to do anything. I that gets changed and fixed I would redo my review for it after actually playing

I loved playing the demo for this game on PS3. However, this version doesn't even take up a fourth of my screen! I can barely read the text and it's too small to be able to properly place the characters and upgrade them. I am so sad about this. I really wish that Square would fix it :(

Q70%
by Q####:

I love this game, but it doesn't scale on larger devices, so it's pretty much unplayable will adjust if fixed. First mobile game I ever played, and it still holds up well. Super Challenging, great abilities, a really good take on the genre using familiar faces.

Easy to learn but hard to master. Instant addiction! Unfortunately the game is way too small on my screen, barely takes up half and everything is so small I was getting a headache from squinting. Smdh what a waste of money.

by Q####:

It is a fun game when it works. It would be nice if the graphics were updated for HD devices (less pixelation on hd displays). This game consistently freezes on my tranformer prime tablet with the fast moving waves for some reason....no resume feature causes this to be more frustrating being all progress is lost once it freezes. This game is fun however when it does work.

Running the game on 1080p or 1440p phones is impossible because the game only runs on a low resolution and does strectch to fill the screen. It's way too small to play. Square Enix screwing up like usual.

by T####:

I would really enjoy this game if I was able to see it. I'm using a galaxy s4 and that nice big screen is completely wasted on this game because it only fills a fraction of the screen. I can't get into the action of what would be a very fun game because my eyes are distracted by big black bars around every edge of the screen. WTF, Square Enix? You've changed...

O70%
by O####:

...why can't it run in full screen? I've played the ps3 version on a 42 inch TV, and it didn't have big black borders taking half the screen, so why can't it stretch to a 7 inch tablet's size??? Other than that, really good and demanding tower defence game, would get 5 stars if it wasn't for the screen size issue.

S70%
by S####:

Scaled down port of the iphone version of game. Screen is shrunk to partial instead of scaled to phone which means they didn't even try making it better after porting, other things missing and always on DRM so you can't play without net. Get it on sale if interested but don't pay more than a dollar or so.

I've played FF-CD on the ps3 and I can tell you after the port there is a MASSIVE downgrade in quality. The game doesn't even fill my whole screen (galaxy s3) and the resolution is very low to begin with. World 3 is also missing. The controls are easily picked up and the game is stable in my experience. Loses one star for quality, loses another star for missing stages that the iPhone/ps3 versions have, and retains one star for the 83% summer discount.

The game only takes up half my screen. Loved the gameplay, but when i play now i cant even see whats happening. I cant even enjoy the game i purchased because of it. I gave it a 2/5 because i remember the hours of gameplay i used to have... on another system. Hopefully there will be a patch with a way to make it bigger, until then i will just be sad i purchased this for the phone.

The game is a great tower defense game, however the game tends to freeze randomly during play. It will play fine after the initial install, but not after multiple reloads of the game. Also like others have said, the fullscreen issue , although not too big of a deal for me. Will rate higher once I can play smoothly with no hiccups. Galaxy Nexus

by F####:

This game only uses about 70% of the screen on modern phones. It doesn't look like its been optimized in the least. The controls are clunky partially because of the small screen size and partially due to lazy porting. Don't waste your money. Even 99 cents isnt a good deal for this disappointment. Thanks for cashing in Square Enix.....

by D####:

This game sucks. I mean, it's technically not the worst tower defense game, but it feels like an app some kid made in his basement. It would be amazing for an amateur effort, but just isn't excusable for a big name like square enix. With games Like kingdom rush available on android there's no reason anyone should be buying this game.

Playing this on my Asus TF300 is a nightmare. This is by and large the most mediocre tower defense game I have played, and it is made even worse by the fact that the music (of all things, the best part of the game) causes it to crash unexpectedly, usually about 18 levels into a campaign (progress is not saved). No full screen support, and disappointing on all levels. At least it was cheap.

Q70%
by Q####:

This game is pretty entertaining. All defenders classes jobs are from Final fantasy series: Whitewater, blackmage, etc. it keeps crashing on wave 14, I wish I could play more. But I only bought it for $1.20, what you expect.

C70%
by C####:

This is a good game. Great in fact, very fun and very hard. But the fact that it keeps a third of the screen black is something that annoys the crap out of me, and something I've never seen in a mobile game before. Would absolutely be five stars if they updated it to fix the weird resolution.

Y70%
by Y####:

As mentioned before why am I playing a 3.5 inch version of this game on my gs4? Favorite mobile game useless now. Unnaceptable. + ios has an HD version. So can I expect to pay another 10$ or more for your solution again to fit my screen?

D70%
by D####:

I played this on the iPhone and iPad before I switched to android. This game looks awful on my sgs3 and nexus 7. Its a good game don't get me wrong. But this is obviously just a lousy port of it and there are black bars around this game. Got this on sale but I still feel like I got shafted on this purchase.

D70%
by D####:

I'm not sure what changed, if any changed at all, but thanks for not completely forgetting about the game! Its my favorite tower defense game, I wish you posted more updates, like World 3.

On my Galaxy S5 the screen was small. I am now on the S7 and the issue is not fixed. Come on SE, you need to show your fans you care if you want us to spend money on them

D70%
by D####:

I own this for the iOS and have no issues. On Android it seems to freeze on any random wave in and on any board regardless of what speed the wave is(normal or 4x). I own a Transformer Prime and it has ICS. Other than that the game is fun and a great buy for .99¢. I will amend the rating once the issue is fix if it is fixed for some reason Square Enix does not update as much as other developers even when there are major issues. Support your product especially since you charge for it!

C70%
by C####:

Not optimized for nexus 10 at all. Only games up a tiny portion of the center of the screen. You cannot even see what the heck is going on. SE is horrible about stuff like this. They just port over games really quick with no attempt to improve. They are just trying to make money with as little investment as possible.

D70%
by D####:

This is really bad. It seems it wasn't optimized for Android at all... Very laggy when things get busy and horrible resolution makes this game a pain to play. A real shame really... It has potential to be a really good game.

D70%
by D####:

Good game guys, but I think you guys should impliment an upgrade system in the main menu. Also a way to earn more crystals, once you use a few summons you are screwed. If you can upgrade I will definately give 5 stars

D70%
by D####:

Moderately fun, but really bad port. Only uses 2/3 of the screen. If I wanted that much black bezel I'd have an iphone, which this port may be intended for. Also horrible on resources, my phone ALWAYS runs hot with it, and I typically have a cpu warning waiting for me which has rarely happened with other games, including ones that are much more graphically intense and include more sprites. Unfortunate, as the game is somewhat fun.

Trying to click on units to sell but it doesn't give the option on droid razr. It seems to be a cut up version of its original and is very disappointing. If I would have known I wouldn't have bought the game.

D70%
by D####:

I actually Love this game.... 4 phones ago but as the phones got bigger the app never adapted to the increasing screen resolution and on my Droid Turbo it is a SMALL box. Please FIX this square. I will change it to 5 star which the game is. Has to be one star because it is unplayable

I70%
by I####:

This is an excellent example of how not to make a game. The graphics are terrible, the controls are terrible, the license check runs every time, the towers don't update appearance, the only selling point is the company who makes it. With a total ground up rewrite it could be improved to worthless.

O70%
by O####:

As other reviewers mentioned, the game does crash every now and then. I hadn't noticed when I first started playing it, but once you get into the game, it can be a very annoying especially when you can't save without quitting the game. Although the resolution of the game is acceptable on the S3, it's obvious that it can still be better. Overall, it's a great game for the discounted price of $1.

Y70%

I bought this pile of trash (full price!) expecting a quality game from square enix. Won't be making that mistake again, ever. It's terrible in every way.

D70%
by D####:

The game comes on multiple platforms including ios and PSN, and on my GS3 it has less content. There's 4 more maps you can play on other devices in the W3 section that isn't included. Also there should be an option to save replays so you can study what works for you and pass the level. Among other things. Resolution could be changed. Fun to play, but everyone should get the same content for what we're paying. I'd recommend on a different device.

by D####:

I am a square enix freak and I thought everyone writing a review had a crappy phone or something. I have a Motorola ATRIX and it runs everything I put on it great. But this game isn't full screen and looks pixelated. Someone did not program it right. I used to have it on my iphone and the apple version is fantastic. Its my favorite tower defense game. Just prepare yourself for a rough draft of a game with the android version. It seems completely opposite of anything square enix would do but its true.

R70%

Update needed to adjust resolution or fix size on display for current smartphones and tablets. Otherwise this would get 5 stars. Come on Square..time to update this you haven't touched it since launch.

R70%
by R####:

The android version is pixelated and doesn't scale. The iOS version works exactly how it should. How about showing your paying customers some love and fix your game?

R70%
by R####:

So if you download Crystal Defenders Lite, which is the free version, the picture size fits the whole screen. However the purchased version doesn't? This is absurd, I'll get my refund and just play the free version. Sucks to be the creators of this game!

R70%
by R####:

Actually a really great game for wasting time. I played the hell out of the lite version so I figured I'd buy the full one. It's nice to have 7 additional maps but the screen is tiny and there's no way to stretch it out on the S4. Hoping Square Enix fixes this issue soon.

R70%
by R####:

Game runs in a window the size of my thumb. When I go to fix aspect ratio the game goes full screen and displaces all the texts from all Windows and put it elsewhere at a size 2 font. Gameplay slowdowns at times and that shouldn't be an issue with an 800 series snapdragon and especially with a 330 adreno gpu

U70%
by U####:

In the lite version the game worked fine, and it was a pleasure to waste time on it. This version was made for ants, or really really small people. Stay away from this! Square Enix really needs to put its corp. together, before people really starts to stop liking their products.
