About This Game:

Road Not Taken is a puzzle game about surviving life's surprises. You play as a ranger adventuring through a vast, unforgiving forest in the aftermath of a brutal winter storm, rescuing children who have lost their way. Randomly generated levels deliver a limitless supply of possibilities to explore and challenges to overcome. Your actions will influence not only your own story, but that of the villagers you hope to befriend and the town you call home.

Story Details:

Each time you play Road Not Taken, you're likely to experience a very different story. The paths you take will change; the relationships you pursue will twist in ways you did not expect. Which, as it happens, is just like real life.

The villagers of Road Not Taken believe that there is an optimal path through life: a good person gets a job, falls in love and has children. You won't follow this path. Can you find your own unique way through a life?

Gameplay Details:

No path leads to the same destination in Road Not Taken. The trails you take will change, the relationships you pursue will twist in ways you might not expect, and the narrative you create with every action will be yours to decide. Every playthrough offers new and unusual creatures to encounter, secrets and items to discover, townsfolk to build relationships with, and devilish, hand-crafted puzzle rooms to solve.

Brains, Not Brawn:

Your character has the magical ability to levitate and move objects. You must figure out how to use your talents and tactics to circumvent or defeat a wide variety of dangerous creatures, obstacles, and boss encounters.

Get Lost in the Wild:

Road Not Taken is brought to life with gorgeous 2D artwork, expressively charming sprite design, and an evocative, atmospheric soundtrack. Every puzzle is a challenge of exploration and strategy, testing players to think before taking each step forward.

It's a fun game if I'm not accidently picking things up or throwing things around when I don't mean to. The controls make this a frustrating game to play. Perhaps a long press for picking up and throwing would help. This game has been on Android for a while. It's disappointing to see the controls are still so sensitive.

I just bought the game. It looked really interesting and like something new. The first 30 or so minutes were great. Great graphics, I love the overall idea of the game. The next time I opened the game, about 5 minutes in it crashed. I tried restarting it, force stopping it, re-downloading it. Nothing helps. About 4-5 minutes in, it crashes. Horrible. And I feel like I could actually enjoy this game too. Wish I could get a refund now though. Please fix.

I didn't like it at first and i did get stuck in my house for a bit the first time i played but then i found the website with the recipes and i felt more equipped to play. Also the keypad for moving doesn't always send my guy where i intended. Ive walked though quite a few spirits unintentionally. Now I'm on level 9, but there is this one room that keeps throwing me out of the game, icy, goat eating flowers, 2 angry spirits, and a bunch of fire spirits, what gives?

Amazing art, music, atmosphere. Equally heartwarming and somber. Im happy I got this puzzle roguelike, its really a gem. I only took one star off for the crashing issues Ive been having.

I'm going to be honest; I love this game. I've actually had a copy of it on Steam for a while, and I saw it was on the Play Store so I bought it here too. But, there are still things I would change. I think the controls should be more adjustable, so each player can make every button including the D-pad bigger or smaller, and there should be a button for picking up and dropping things, and another button to replace the long tap, which is to put stuff down without throwing it. The touch screen controls should be optional, because it never seems to work for me. When I tap to drop something, I usually mess it up. Dying because the controls made you move, when you wanted to throw the last child to safety and you only had 1 hp is no fun. Also, whenever I'm in a room with several creatures that move around on their own, the game tends to crash. I know that's a lot of complaints, but I think the game would be even better if these changes were made.

Surprisingly deep little Roguelike. Controls a a bit wonky but the gameplay is challenging and finding out secrets is a joy. Highly recommend!

The game always quits randomly while walking around on my phone. Makes it basically unplayable. Controls also very bad, usually picking up or throwing objects by accident. Hope will be fixed

A beautiful turn-based puzzler that rewards, not frustrates EDIT - crashes out every 10 minutes or so - uninstalled :(

It seems like a really good game, but it crashes so often I can't play. Is there a fix?

Really fun game

A great game hampered by inconsistent controls. If using the swipe controls, you should only ever move in the initial direction. It's frustrating to have my character suddenly veer off in a new direction because my finger accidentally slid a little bit. If I want to move in a new direction, I should have to lift my finger completely and swipe in a new direction. The directional touch pad is useless as I frequently click a direction and end up throwing something instead. Also, I turned it off in options and it came back. These significant complaints aside, the gameplay is clever and the graphics are beautiful and the problems are easily addressed, so I look forward to updating my review soon.

Looks lovely, but the controls are horrendous. The d-pad use usless and has a mind of its own. And using swipes is laborious and rarely goes were you want it to. Would be so much better if you could just tap on the square you want to move to!

I have this game on steam, just to purchase it so I could play on my phone. There is something I would like to mention, whenever it is game over, I can't get out of that tomb screen. I had to close the app in order to either revive, or new game. I wonder if it's just me or it's a common thing. Updated on 10th April 17, Still unstable game play for me, like frozen page after I gave villager some gift, music goes on but blank dialogue box, couldn't do anything but close down the app.

My Chromebook is no longer supported. I don't understand why, it ran fine. After power washing, I tried to reinstall from playstore, and it says not compatible. :(

I love the overall experience and look. The gameplay is challenging. Worth what I paid for it! But it always crashes around 3 minutes after I start it...

I love Spry Fox's other mobile games, so I was excited when this game came to android. Satisfying puzzles, great graphics, and surprisingly emotional life stories make this a game worth re-playing.

Mobile games tend to err towards quick and easy cashins. RNT is a wonderful example of what can be done on phones.

Controls are horrible, frustrating and makes game play almost impossible

T70%

I've like a lot of their other Gabe's, but this one didn't do it for me. Controls are iffy, gameplay slow, side mission type content is annoying. It's a matching have that requires a wiki or lots of memorization. Boo.

T70%
by T####:

This could have been a good game but the terrible Controls ruin it. They are really finiky amd often take the wrong input. The game itself is so-so. They added a ton of content but at the cost of tight gameplay and strategy. Do not recommend.

T70%
by T####:

Interesting at first, but all the levels end up cluttered with tons of garbage. Moving between screens gets really tedious. Many of the objects in the game are very annoying, like the ninja bears which just teleport all over randomly and do nothing but get in the way. Didnt care for the controls and making a mistake can permanently close an exit because you destroyed an object by accident.

Y70%
by Y####:

Really unsatisfying 'feel' to the game movement and controls. For example even connecting three objects looks and feels unsatisfying, they need to wobble and connect, sticking together, instead they just stop moving. There's a lack of finesse to the kinetics. Looks very pretty though. Shame.

I70%
by I####:

This game is very pretty but the controls don't make sense and I can't seem to find anything that gives instructions. Why is there a blueberry, can I eat it? If so, how do I eat it? There's a tutorial at the beginning but if I haven't played it in a while I'd like to see a manual somewhere.

X70%
by X####:

At first it was going to be a casual puzzle with a bit of roguelike element, and i will not going to play it after first tutorial level. Surprisingly i was not be able to, it had quite amount of depth. The puzzle element definitely become the main gameplay (mixed with crafting) but it blend nicely with roguelike. With spry fox cute arts and IMO a bit of dark story, you got yourself a unique roguelite game that fit nicely with mobile platform. My only cons is maybe the UI could be better

So after two tries...the game freezes after the first mission. Black screens my tablet, and will not let me get out of the game. I have to turn off my tablet and then back on. Please help? Will give five stars if we can figure out the bug.

I have this on the PC and was very happy to see it ported to Android. Plays the same as the PC version. Movement is a bit stilted, and I end up picking things up I didn't mean to, but this doesn't detract from the game play.

This is a game I might have really enjoyed, if not for the faulty control system. It's swipe to move, but half the time swiping moves me too many spaces, or in the wrong direction, or registers as a tap rather than a swipe (or a swipe rather than a tap), etc. I pulled out my controller hoping the PS4 control system had been left in, but no luck there either. Manually mapping to my controller left me with similar issues to the touch controls - moving too many spaces, especially. Uninstalling for a refund for now. Might try again later if the control system is fixed. Especially if controller support is added.

W70%

Poor controls combined with no way to fix mistakes or restart a level without burning through 300 hp really ruin the experience. Information pop ups cover the most important UI elements. Really needs an undo button. Difficulty relies on increasing annoyance more than challenge, without giving more solutions. Freezes on death often, although this can be fixed with a force quit and restart.

Unrequited love, friendships, bunnies and bears. Can't say enough good things about this game.

X70%

Loved this game on pc, so jumped on the android version straight away. Have to say I actually prefer the mobile controls. Love the art, and the slightly darker tone (story-wise) versus the other Spry Fox games. The gameplay is a good mixture of puzzle solving and rogue lite. Definitely worth the price, especially with the crazy amount of replay value involved (random level generation + branching story)

X70%
by X####:

This game is beautiful. It has cute characters, wonderful music, and a clean interface. As you move through the levels, it goes from simple to fiendishly difficult. But the next thing you know, you're questioning the nature of aging, what gives your life meaning, and your personal legacy. What do you leave behind? Whose lives have you touched? This game is well worth your time & money.

A thoughtful and carefully crafted piece of art you can play through. Anyone shying at the price, what wouldn't you pay to avoid full screen ads, let alone for a high quality game? Puzzle meets adventure meets rogue like, I love it.

I enjoyed playing this on PS4 but always thought it would work well on a tablet or phone. The puzzles ramp up fairly quickly and give a good challenge. There's plenty to discover in the game and the whole thing is lovingly crafted.

Z70%
by Z####:

This is a wonderful game. It has a dark sense of humour and can be a bit tricky or marvellously challenging, depending on how much you want to push yourself. It's perfect for mobile in my opinion, as I find it quite addictive, so it's great to be able to take it with you. I highly recommend it.

As it is new the UI is awful. The love of iOS is apparent by their choice of tiny text and overlapping UI elements which most iOS people stubbornly endure. However on Android, this isn't acceptable. Text is tiny, some discoveries in the book match the colour of the background of the page. There is a HUGE waste of screen space left and right of which would have been better suited to a split inventory. Instead the inventory clings to the bottom overlapping part of the HUD. No Android credits, speaks volumes.

If you have countless hours for pointless exploration of secrets go for it! You will not be helped by the unresponsive control scheme!

Words aren't enough to describe the high level of quality this game possesses. From the graphics and artwork to the game mechanics, Road Not Taken goes beyond being just a game, it's a downright experience. The price is well worth it, trust me, you will not be disappointed.
