A very original story, with lot of side quests and in-character questions on morality. It is very long, though, and if you play it in spurts it can be hard to remember what you were supposed to do. Music is minimal, while graphics and sound are just about serviceable. Consequently, it brings back more of an Ultima VI rather than Baldur's Gate feel, but is no worse for that. The only complaint I have is that there is no way to transfer your saves across devices (either via cloud save or export file) because your game may last longer than the lifespan of your device - it's that long and deep. Spiderweb, please let us do that - it may sound really trivial to you but it means the world to people like me whose current device is not really going to last much longer...
Runs and looks great on my trio!
Wow, just discovered Avadon: The Black Fortress and Avernum: Escape From The Pit today, and of course purchased them both. These are two epic, loot collecting, tactical monster battling, awesome RPG'S! Note to dev: be sure to bring the rest of the series or trilogy over to Android asap! Don't let me down, lol.
This will forever be my favorite game.
I love these games. I'm coming from iPad and owned all three of them (that have been released so far). I'm sad to see that only this one is available on the Play store. However, I'm over the moon that I can still play on my new Note 10.1. I really hope the devs bring Escape from the Pit and Avernam 6 to Android soon. These are fantastic old school games that deserve the praise.
Great game. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because its sometimes hard to select the correct button. This is definitely a tablet game. Its not to bad with my note stylus. Id hate to try to play this game without one. If you like turn based rpg. This is a must have. Well work the price.
This game is incredible and should be the standard of mobile RPGs. It's got a great story, and the narrative does an excellent job of setting the scenes. The turn based grid combat is really good and especially exciting when you're just barely getting out alive. The world and dungeons are huge and you can explore and do side quests for over an hour in each one. The only annoyance I have is the game automatically loads my auto save instead of latest manual save on start up. Auto save is always 10-20m behind.
I must say I do prefer to play it on my PC as some areas suffer from interface precision difficulty. The interface was definitely designed primarily for mouse use. That's my only gripe. A Bluetooth mouse on my tablet would of course remedy that too.
I've sunk hours into this game so far. It's more focused than the previous games, and a little easier, but still has awesome characterization.
I have NEVER NEVER EVER seen a game with such an EPIC storyline!! Excellent design... But it would be nice if you could choose gender and how your character looks.
Ive spent hours and hours trying 3 times to play through the game and every time my save file gets currupted later down the line, what does this do? Removes all items from any chest in the game you encounter, springs errors up about missing chat scripts at random and causing huge slowdowns randomly. Do not buy this game if you dont want your time wasted. Im now trying to refund my purchase.
I'm new to Spiderweb Software but I think I may be a supporter for life now. The port is pretty much perfect on my 10in tablet and there isn't another game that I'd rather play on my tablet now. I often find myself searching for that old school RPG feel like Baldur's Gate but sometimes have trouble finding something that quenches my thirst. This game has such a rich story and plenty of character customization and gear upgrades. I've even bought the old Avernum series to go back and play some of Jeff's older titles. I'm only disappointed that I didn't know Spiderweb Software till now.

This app has been broken for months, and none of the updates have fixed whatever the devs did to break it.
Have played and enjoyed the demo but cannot play the full version I have just purchased. Keeps saying 'Load error: cannot open data file' on startup and then crashes. Nexus7, demo version ran fine. Have uninstalled and reinstalled twice, fully powered on and off my device, no change.
If you love old school RPGs and you've got spare hours, this will eat them up. Dungeons, villages, items, warriors vs mages, this one is an old school beast!
Perfect clone of my childhood games... Ultima, Baldur's Gate, etc. I'm totally hooked and eternally thankful for so many hours of awesome strategy and story. Go go bottom feeders!
Great game, good stories, easy to get lost in. Scaling issues don't effect game play, although be great if you can fix it. Maybe add a little more to the soundscape though, I like the minimalist background noise but maybe boost up the magic sound effects, something more satisfying.
The game is unplayable on high resolution (1900ish by 1200ish) tablets without a pointed stylus, as the places you need to click on are much smaller than your finger, and pinch zooming is not enabled. But there is a simple fix, at least on the 2013 Nexus 7. Go into settings. Scroll down to the Accessibility section. Tap to open it. Scroll down to magnification settings. Turn it on. Once you turn on magnification settings, you can triple tap the screen to zoom in. While zoomed, you can zoom in or out with pinch zooming, and drag two fingers on the screen to move the zoomed-in window. It's mostly just like pinch zooming was included in the port (which it absolutely should have been), except that you have to triple tap to turn it on, and you can't zoom out to more than about x2. You can zoom in as far as you like, enough to tap a single square in combat with 100% accuracy. Triple tap again to return to unzoomed screen. With magnification settings on, Avadon is a very good game, easily worth 5 stars. Without magnification settings, it's unplayable on a high res tablet.
Good content completely ruined by the user interface. I dont mind clunky graphics, you get used to it being an rpg fan. But the user interface is horrible and a game breaker. When dialogue boxes and icons too small on a 10.1 tablet then there is a problem, specially from a premium paid app. Sort out for more stores, dont just give us a crappy port. Android is the number 1 gaming platform, not the second, get over it. Gutted I spent the money like a mug. xperia z tablet.
As a result of playing the demo, this has become the first app I have ever purchased. Engrossing gameplay for RPG fans. Goes to show that fancy graphics are not everything. Also I had my fill of idiots on MMORPGs and am enjoying playing a game to myself. It shows that it is worth paying a little to enjoy the full experience and not be stung for in game payments to progress. Looking forward to enjoying the whole thing over the summer.
This is so far the most enjoyable RPG I have encountered on Android - in my mind it is built with the mechanics and storytelling quality that all RPGs should have. Quick-moving turn-based combat and easy click interaction to move through the environment. The exact correlation between action points in combat and how far a character can move is still a little confusing after 8-9 hours of gameplay, but it doesn't get noticed much. I do wish a party system bigger than three was possible. Just getting started here and I am already looking foward to a sequel.
just went out and bought this, great stuff it is too - proper classic RPG, I love the graphics and the interface, the writing is great and actually the sound design is really good as well. It puts a lot of the more "established" games and their studios to shame. In this gamer's humble opinion, and for what it's worth, I think it's certainly one of the best RPGs available for the Android platform at the moment. Play it, it's worth the money and you won't regret it! Good work.
Full featured, old school, no "buy progress" crap. Well designed and written, Avadon qualifies as truly professional in the mediocre wasteland of tablet rpgs. As noted, it suffers from somewhat awkward and imprecise controls that are more annoying than critical.
I still can't believe it: here we have a real, honest to goodness rpg in the style of baldur's gate. The writing is excellent and immersive, the graphics are detailed, the combat refined and nicely tactical, and almost every design aspect shows the care that went into this beautiful game. I'd even play this on the pc, and that's the highest praise I can give. Great job!
This game is fantastic. Lengthy, captivating, pretty much perfect. Great graphics and gameplay! A truly wonderful RPG.
This RPG is highly recommended. Especially for old-school RPG fans who yearn for the good ol' days of in depth PC gaming. In contrast to today's standards, Avadon is not gorgeous, but it's not really supposed to be. The text based descriptions draw you in very well and are very well written. The whole game is well written. Gameplay wise, the combat and leveling are easy to pick up on, but are complex enough for the hardcore gamer. It's hard to find flaws, but perhaps there could be a better area map and the ability to choose gender for each class.
Until the remake of Baldurs Gate hits Android, this is the best RPG game you can get for a tablet. I've been playing it for months now in my spare time and I am fairly certain I haven't scratched the surface. Decent story, can easily get pulled in and before you know it, oh look it's 2am! Really intuitive controls! Cheat codes, yeah it has those too! Overall incredible game and worth every penny! Works great on Sony Tablet S
I purchased this because I was searching for a large, involved game. One of the previous reviewers mentioned "old school Ultima" games so I checked it out. It's perfect! Spider Web made another as well for Android so I'll get that after this one.
As previously mentioned by others, the only issue is that on 7 inch screen, it's sometimes hard to select the desired spot on the screen.
Brilliant! Hope more spiderweb software games are released on android. This game and genre are perfectly suited for android. There is a massive amount of content and it's probably the deepest rpg available on android right now. Also it offers a REAL challenge on the higher difficulties. This is coming from someone who has already put 100 hours worth into the pc version. :-)
Small graphics on tablet, but this doesn't detract from intriguing storyline and compelling tasks and sub-plots. Sound could be better but minor gripe given the depth of overall gameplay in this game. I'm still enjoying playing after too many long spells. Can definitely recommend this game.
Please either change the aspect ratio or give us an option to change the aspect ratio so that the game isn't stretched. Android tablets are mostly all 16:9. I don't care if there are black bars on the sides. I want the game's aspect ratio to be correct. Look at Baldur's gate...black bars on the sides but the game looks great and circles actually look round instead of oval. Second, please add immersive mode. Looking at the navigation bar/buttons the entire time a game is running gets really annoying...
Cool game. Easier to play with a stylus. Was just getting into it when an old update was issued and then it wouldn't start. But they've fixed it and I was able to pick up right where I left off. So simple and yet plenty of fun, especially if you are fond of similar games from decades ago, like the Ultima series.
I play on the Eepad Transformer and Nexus 7. There are a few cons. One cannot zoom the map in or out and icons could be larger or scalable for the Nexus 7. Also there is no way to back up the game save file either to play on a different device or in case an update is buggy (this happened). I used to play Exile and this game is what I expected. A stylus will help with accuracy.
Jeff Vogel, AKA Spiderweb Software is a great developer. He created and tweaked his game engine and developed SEVERAL awesome RPGs for this engine. Full, fleshed out game worlds and intelligent character design are the features of these Old School classics. If you see anything by Spiderweb, get it because it is an amazing game. This game, along with Avernum (formerly Exile series) Escape from the Pit are both great games and series. Check them out if you love old style RPGs with a lot of flavor text.
Okay first of all great game. Story is so far good and gameplay is excellent. Worth every penny but expect to do a lot of reading. Downsides are on my Galaxy Note 2014 edition the text and interface is way too small thank god for the stylus and this new update to fix the issues made Avadon not run on my device. Please fix Spiderweb. I have already lost my save game but please fix so I can start over. This is a must buy as long as it functions on your device. Despite these issues I give it 5 stars because of the content of this game and I do not dock points bc of my devices failure to run the game correctly. Update: New update has made game playable on my device again thanks guys. And thanks for all the quick support answers. I am still an Avadon fan but saddly Avadon has been pushed to the side for Baldurs Gate. Speaking of which if you like Baldurs Gate you need Avadon also. Exact same game to a degree except true paused turn based. And I mean no offense to either game saying exact same game I mean just same concept and they are both great games at the top of my Greatest RPGs List.
Game is stretched on nexus 7 (2013). Kind of annoying but you get used to it I guess. I would prefer black bars on the sides like watching standard def TV on an HD screen.
Love the game, but... I installed the demo, finished it, then bought the full version. Had to start from beginning. Then when I return to Eye Mamora in dungeon after finding prisoners the quest completes and I am left with Go To Dungeons quest as only live one, and no way to progress. Please fix, or refund purchase. I have a Tesco Hudl btw

The best game for Android. On a tablet it's amazing, on my Xperia z3 its a bit hard to use but playable.
