Terni Lapilli

The ancestor of tic tac toe (also known as Noughts and Crosses) as it was played in the Roman Empire around the first century BC. Terni Lapilli has more depth than its modern counterpart but requires a board and game pieces to be played. Although it was often hacked together with a piece of wood and little stones, hence the name Terni Lapilli which in Latin translates to "three little stones".

In the first part of the game the players place in succession all of their 3 colored marbles on the board. The goal of each player is to align his of her marbles. If there is no winner and all the marbles are on the board, players can move them around and try to outplay their opponent.
