Explore the ancient ruins, survive to the bottom level and save the world.
Every time you play the game will create a new dungeon full of challenges and surprises for you in 5 different environments populated with monsters and ancient magical artifacts.
There are six different player classes, each one designed with an unique play style. Some of them are combat focused while others must rely on the items found on the dungeon to survive.
As you advance through the game, you will find more than 40 different monsters with distinct skills and features, you will be able to charm them using magic spells and make them follow you in your quest; using ancient magic found in the dungeon you will also unlock the powers and skills hidden on their evolved forms.
Unlike classic roguelikes adapted to modern media, in Ananias there is no cumbersome movement or complex commands, however all the features from the genre that make the games fun are kept: turn based combat, random level generation and long term item strategy are among the things that make every adventure into the dungeon enjoyable.
You can also play along with your friends in the online mode; the game keep all friends up to date with their adventures in real time, so you can set up challenges or just have fun seeing your friend's characters die in the dungeon.
There are 8 classes, each one with its own strengths and weaknesses:
Alchemist
* Shoots liquid at enemies (Acid, Liquid Fire, and other potions)
* Can mix reagents into potions without danger of explosion.
* Starts with powerful potions (Flame Potion for example which deals a lot of fire damage when thrown)
Arcane
* Can cast the most powerful spells without danger of backfiring
* Extends power of magic wands
* Starts with powerful spells (like Charm Monster which makes any creature become your ally)
Paladin
* Can use all weapons and armor
* Blocks attacks using his shield
* Extends lifetime of weapons
Hunter
* Never misses a shot with a bow
* Performs critical damage with bows
* Prevents arrows from breaking
Barbarian
* Charges against enemies while running.
* Gains strength when low on health.
* Recovers health by defeating foes.
Slayer
* Can slash through enemies while walking
* Jumps over the enemies from the distance
* Expert with throwing knifes and axes
Monk
* Strikes enemies with flying kicks
* Damage from unarmed attacks increases with power
* Immune to poison or spell maladies
Sage
* Can cast elemental spells multiple times
* Can unleash the full power of elemental spells
The levels in the dungeon are randomly generated every time you play, so you have to explore the level gathering useful equipment and looking the stairs to the next level, while avoiding death and managing your limited resources.
...will you drop your spare weapon and carry this potion with you, knowing it could be useful on the next level?
...will you risk attacking a group of enemies to fetch that powerful armor that could save your life? or will you better run away to save your hitpoints
...will you withstand the enemy attacks to reach the backrow and kill the phantom who is constantly healing all others?
...will you carry with you that powerful weapon to use it against strong enemies two levels below, even if that means using up inventory space and attacking with a weaker weapon?
The odds are against you, but if you die there's always a chance to start again and wish for better fortune

Quality game but missing something all rpgs have: the shop! Find gold along the way or sell items, buy useful stuff. Could be a travelling merchant or a between levels thing, maybe have some things you can only buy and some things you can only find

I absolutely love this game. The mechanics of the items and different types of playable characters is amazing and so deep. Replayability is there as it just makes me keep coming back! Adding portrait mode has made this game my #1 android game right now. A must have for any roguelike fan, old or new! The perfect intro to the genre that allows vets to have fun too.

Awesome game! Loved it until latest update, potions showing 40 charges now are exhausted with one use. Can no longer connect with game server, keeps saying to check Internet connection. Please look into these issues. Thanks, hope you can fix these problems, really do like this game!

Look. I get it, you're a dev trying to survive in a flooded market, but if you're going to price it over a buck, then give people even more of a reason to fork over the money, add a new weapon/item relic or something and maybe an extra spell or potion effect. You don't have to go crazy with it, but make it more of a draw to purchase the paid version. I could get three other games for the same price it costs to get a few extra classes.

This is THE BEST roguelike on Android. The mechanics, the graphics, and my God the soundtrack, it's all so well done. I love this game so much that I contributed to the funding campaign, which I never do. The developer never stops improving it. And I can't wait to see myself as a character in-game as a reward from being a backer! EDIT:. Back after more than a year and you are STILL AT IT!! Blown away by your commitment to this game. You really do "never stop improving it" just like I said.

I know roguelikes are kinda figure it out as you go type but there some things that are not explained... Not even in the wiki. I see that certain classes gain skills at certain levels. I played the barbarian to level 11 and if he gets special skills I have no clue where they live to use them. The wiki is no help on this. Also the barbarian is supposed to have a charge. I never saw that work once and again there's 0 help available for figuring out how to use it. Most classes descriptions are misleading.

I bought this, was expecting more out of it I guess. All these reviews talk about depth etc. I couldn't find any, specifically with regards to building your character. Uninstalled while I go to the wiki and try to figure out if there are features I missed or if the good bits come much later in the game.

First I'll say this is one of my go to phone games and one that I never regret paying for. But one of the things I liked about it was how comfortably I could play it one handed in portrait mode. EDIT: I do like the newer tablet UI, it's still not in portrait but it addressed a lot of my issues with the smaller UI, such as map visibility. I would still prefer to play in portrait like it was at one point but I think it deserves 5 stars in its current state regardless.

A solid roguelike that's truly entertaining. Great artwork, dynamic AI, intuitive gameplay, and high replay value make this game shine. The levels tend to drop a lot of unneeded headgear and not enough helpful items, and the unarmed Monk class is super over-powered (the only class I've won with). Also, I scored a run high enough to go on the global ranking, but it hasn't shown up on the list.

I like some of the interface changes, like the easier saves. I'd echo the other reviewer that the portrait mode with permanent map view was nice. It slows everything down when you constantly toggle the map on and off. Unrelated, but what the heck is the barbarian "charge"? Never figured that one out.

I can forgive the character avatar losing all its colour when a spell is cast either by or against it. Leave the room, and the colour comes back. But now, just as the game is getting to be challenging at between levels 7 and 12 (in my experience), the game is locking up. I also realized that the screen display is now flickering a lot during game play. The bobbing monsters are also more difficult to tap on accurately. Maybe a glitch on the animation is causing all of the problems.

The game locked up when I was on lvl 10 and I lost my game. Also if you switch apps and come back you can lose your game. Just needs to auto save now and then in case of crash / app switch.

Very well made, the only suggestions I have are 1- a zoom option, to zoom screen a few pixels 2- the ability to tap on any square on map to travel there or maybe a directional pad under the HUD to make movement easier. But those are mere ideas and not complaints. Brilliant game and a ton of fun to play!

I've played a thousand rogue-likes , and you probably have, too. I can tell you from my short time playing that THIS bad boy is my new go-to. Why? And is it worth the money? A.) plays like butter, with an elegant control scheme that was born to be mobile. B.) All around: top quality. The UI, again the controls that make rogue-ing on the go so smooth, replayability, the whole package is there, with a supportive dev. And yes, it absolutely is worth every cent and many more.

Really needs a backup. Every once in a while I see an update on this game and try again. Lots of fun, but jeez, it always ends up locking on level 24 or so. So frustrating! Funny, here's my last review, same thing... "Great new set of changes with the equipment and spells! The mime mask is pretty fun to use, I've found. But... Whenever I get a really good game going, I start hitting bugs in the lower levels. Twice now, the game has frozen when I try to hit a dragon sorcerer. Grrr..."
