There is lot of replayability here, the strategy and units you deploy are entirely your decision which makes for some awesome fights and military maneuvers such as encircling and combined arms. Heavily impressed with this title .I put it off for a long time due to the price(which is still super cheap for what u get)but knowing what I missed out on I would have bought it ASAP! If u like wargames u will certainly like this.

Only 4 scenarios and very few units compared to the other SG release. Also the fact that it's a "beta" that hasn't been updated since 2014 makes it feel like abandonware.

While combat is simplified to attack and defence strength, this is an engaging eastern front game. I spent an entire Sunday rejecting the outside world in my quest to both fight off the Nazi war machine and then conquer the Soviet union. Loafs of fun.

Ai is semi-decent but can easily be defeated. Concentrate armor & encirclement. Earliest victory June 42 for axis & March 43 reds on ++. Avoid strong points & defensive terrain. Best results to breakout northeast for axis and reds to give up ground for time, reinforcements, & stiffen your defensive line. If u head for the hq and kill it, the whole army loses supplies and then the game. Should have air and artillery should not be in due to the scale as it is supposed to be integrated with our units.

(April 2015) I would love to see new scenarios created even if it means purchasing them as part of another title. I'd also love to see support for PBEM as well. However those are wish lists, I highly recommend the game as is.

Simple. Brilliant. Interesting approach to simulate the realities of strategic warfare and show some unique qualities of both sides of the Eastern Front. Love it!

Slitherine was best known several years ago for it's strategy PC titles such as Legion, Chariots of War, and Spartan, all excellent historical empire building games. Their Great Battles: Medieval, a full-fledged tactical unit combat simulation based on the 100 Years War between England and France, is an epitome to be aspired to by war sim strategy developers. This WWII boardgame style sim is uncommon and greatly appreciated. 5 Stars

Emulates two-person war games a-la Third Reich. Best wargame I've seen for Android, but bar is low. Still, Grognards could do worse than buying this game for WWII on the Eastern Front.

T70%

Small Generals is easily my favorite war game on Android. It's streamlined enough to play well on mobile platforms, but deep enough to provide a challenging experience. Eastern Front adds some historical flavor to the scenarios and is a must buy for any strategy gamer.

Excellent turn-based (IGOUGO) hex strategy war game for novices and grognards alike. This usually belongs to certain wargaming niche market and, hopefully, Android version may attract new customers to the genre itself. Oldtime board games veterans can enjoy this new 21st century media conversion as well.

Can play against AI, or human opponent, great option including solitaire if AI is not up to it. Air strike option would be good and minors should replace their losses on some scale. Could be an oil cap problem to fix. Otherwise a grand effort at a historical strategic game. Care to have a crack at reproducing Fortress Europa, Third Reich or World in Flames? Certainly I would pay.

Very nicely made strategy game. Historical followup to the original Small General game. Nice to see the bigger scale scenarios. Runs well on my Asus tablet. The format is suitable for a phone. I would like more! Also I would like to have similar games utilizing the size of tablets. Keep up the good work.

Another great wargame from VR! Worth the price. Next, can we get fighters and bombers? ;)

If you have any interest in wargames or strategy games then get this game. It is polished, beautiful, easy to use, has simple rules but deep strategy. You can play 2 players or against the AI on either side. There are smaller scenarios up to the whole conflict. It is far better than any game of its type that I have seen on Android or IOS. This is a classic!

Is good. Needs better artillery results, ai gets way too many good rolls and even on lowest levels units seem invincible. Otherwise fairly decent. Needs air force.UPDATE: whatever you did, the Russians are just way too strong in the beginning of any game! SHOCKED REDUCED INFANTRY BEATING SS AND REGULAR ARMOR???? Please correct this...Update 2: forget it folks. Russians still to strong and battles get lopsided fast.

All around great game, with very nice graphics and interface. Gameplay is tough but not impossible.

R70%
by R####:

Fun game with nice clean graphics and presentation. Definitely worth the money, but could use a few options to be great. The Ai opponent seems hard a first, but once you learn to cut off his supply, you won't be beaten. Artillery is pretty useless if there is a mech unit in hex. Why would artillery only target mech units (at a penalty), in the hex? That would be like AT guns targeting infantry when there are tanks to shoot at. At least make it random, as the ai always has mech units stacked with infantry on front lines. Maybe add an air strike you could purchase, to gave you more options. You will go through the four maps quickly, and that's it then!

This is superb, the only strategy game I could be bothered to carry on playing - its visually appealing, easy to learn, and allows you to focus on developing a grand strategy whilst fighting battles on a local/regional level. If all the turn based strategy games were as good to play, I'd never put my phone down again. Designers, please please create some more games

Great game. Would be 5 stars except for the fact that the AI is a bit dumb, so it's too easy to win. That said, I still come back and play it time and time again. Would love to see more instalments from other theatres, eg Normandy 1944.

Decent AI, but way too slow on higher AI levels on my N2A android converted nook color. Still fun at base level. Would like it if the play could continue after victory is declared, I want the option to grind my opponent after working so hard. It would be quite fabulous if there was an editor option to change initial starting pieces and positions, but I don't know if the algorithm can support that kind of flexibility. Excellent product and I look forward to further packages - D-Day?

After an AI attack/move the screen immediately jerks back to the map centre leaving me no time to see result of attack. Why? What is it at the centre of the map that is more interesting?

T70%

The game stops and freezes at certain point. I couldn't finish two campaigns, it crashes constantly on load. Whereas the demo version was fine more or less. Is the refund possible?

T70%

Small bugs like the difficulty not staying on the setting I choose when starting the game. Also would like to see another game with division sized units.

T70%

Not really historic and mostly about figuring out the order in which to attack with your units. Never expect historical strategies to work out! Still amusing though.

A few suggestions/problems: * Landscape mode - so I can see the entire front spread out in front of me horizontally or the whole board - especially useful on tablets. * Confusing menus - there are two menus - one for app options etc., and one for game operations - should be merged. * Stacked attacks - select enemy stack/units, then attacking (possibly from multiple hexes) units and resolve battle. * Stacked movement * Phased turns - Reinforcements/replacements, movement, combat, supply. Like traditional board war games a la Russian Campaign. * `Pure' NATO designators - option to remove `fancy' graphics. * Less dice in the combat roles - with ~50% of all (non-modified) battles ending in NR, DD, AD, and only 18% or so ending in a loss or worse/better, the battles favours those who stand fast. I suggest 2D6 instead of 3D6 * Historical accuracy - Soviet should start with few units and have surge in spring 1942 - blitzkreig is almost imposible for the axis player. Other than that - great game - something I've been looking for a long time - especially like the movement point designators. Keep up the good work.

Pretty simple, but then that is what it is advertised as. Possibly needs more play testing o get the balance right as it appears to quickly diverge from what is "historically plausible", but it is at a great scale for me.
