Phantasy Star II for Android
Edit: This game is horrible. I had trouble saving my progress so I bought the ad free version and I my progress still gets lost.I'm talking hours of playing time just gone I sent an email and no response. Can someone please help. Hadn't played this in years. I played it 4 hours straight and saving along the way no problem and then in the morning it was all gone. I don't understand
Oh Phantasy Star. This franchise is truly magnificent. One of the best games on the Sega Genesis and I'd even say on of the best JRPG's ever made. I expect to see the other 3 titles soon. And Sega, if you're reading this, this had BETTER be the advertising you need to finaly release PSO2 in the states! lol However, there are a few problems. As much as I love this game, it does lag quite a lot, and the audio can get very choppy. I do believe you tried to release this close to Sonic's birthday so I understand there was most likely a deadline. Therefore, I look forward to these issues being fixed as soon as possible. Only then will I rate this game the 5 stars it deserves.
Phantasy Star II is very hard and classic RPG. Hard battles, hard to level up and very hard dungeons. Good futuristic story. This game demands patience and hard work to progress. This Android version is a legal emulation, but I miss a better audio quality and customization for virtual controller.
Had game a few days now, just full of sads with it. The on-screen d-pad is terrible. I don't know if it is fat fingers or what. Bought a PS4 controller specifically for this, come to find out the PS4 controller has absolutely no support on my Galaxy S7 Edge. Looking like I may have to shell out another $50 - $60 for a halfway decent, working BT controller. Not Sega's fault there, but.. even while I am trying to play this Phantasy Star I never got a chance to beat decades ago, the music, as other reviewers have said, is an atrocity. Filled with scratches, pops and other white noise. That is Sega's fault. Fix it or I am going to be even sadder. Sega Forever!! Terribly want to play this.
Time to voyage back into the Algol star system! The original Phantasy Star games have always been one of my favorite RPG series. I find that this version of the game plays quite well; I have no immediate concerns. I look forward to more SEGA classics being released on mobile (and I'm really hoping for releases of the rest of the Phantasy Star series!) Thanks SEGA!
I love this game. The whole series is great. But I'm still holding out for the first, original Phantasy Star; one of my best childhood gaming memories. Dear Sega, Please release the ENTIRE series including the first Phantasy Star. I will play them all again, and would pay to do so if you include the first!
The app sometimes freezes during saves. Then the only way to get something to move would be to force close it. Unfortunately, a force-close results in a rollback of saved files. This is extremely infuriating as i have lost hours of gameplay this way. I have also paid for the ad-free version, so i dont see why the saves are not backed up in case of app crashes. the emulated keypad shld also have options to adjust size and position of it on screen.
Seems to emulate fine for me, but the controls are a bit funky. A way to increase or decrease button size as well as put the game in landscape mode would be great. The ads are pretty standard for a free game. A bit annoying, though I don't think they're quite as bad as people say they are.
The game itself is great. Yeah there is a bit of grinding, and it's certainly basic compared to Phantasy Star IV, but it's still a pretty solid game. But this is a mess on mobile. I bought the ad-free version since I had enough Google Play credits to pick it up at no actual cost and the amount of ads was insane. The controls can't be customized at all, even simply moving where they can be placed on your screen so right in the middle of the display is the default. Oh and the save feature is nearly broken. I quit out of the app after saving earlier tonight, jumped back in a little later and my two save files were replaced by just one with hours of progress lost. That is just beyond frustrating. If there is any feature that needs to work, especially in an RPG, it's saving. Christ.
Game is just as I remember it. Looks great on Android. Controls are a little annoying. What is more annoying is that I can't seem to get the premium save feature to work correctly. After the first time using the save feature by watching an ad it doesn't want to work any more. I have tried twice playing more and both times I used the premium save feature but when I start it back up again my save is from the first time I used it.
I love Phantasy Star, but this port needs work. Just lost a LOT of grind time this morning because, even though I saved in two slots, I came back later to find a single saved game without the two Ceramic Knives I had finished grinding. I can't play this if I can't trust the save synching!
I was actually excited to play this but quickly got disappointed when the game started up. The audio is messed up, constantly skipping and pitch seems off. The game doesn't seem to be running full speed, close but just a bit off enough to be annoying. It's got no real excuse it should run fine on just about any device but doesn't. I how sega updates it to fix it soon.
Its fine, wish there was a short tutorial and battling was easier. Save doesnt work, i hate that. It shows a sace slot in the game but when i go to start menu ghe save slot disappears.
Save doesn't always work. Extremely frustrating to play for an hour and company to see progress lost. I have multiple play accounts on my phone if you are trying to reproduce. Also couldn't choose account to pay with on paid version.
Great RPG. Controller support is hit or miss, my nes30 pro doesn't work. Audio is slightly weird, sometimes missing some notes. This is too bad because the game's music is terrific and so memorable. I hope Sega fixes these issues soon.
Another squandered opportunity by Sega... The app itself is sleek but it is stuffed with ads, and yes there is an ad free version but right now it is not worth it. Why? Butchered audio emulation, no customization, not even portrait orientation.
I'm so happy to have this in my hands again haha and it's true I could use an emulator and stuff but if I can support phantasy star series then I'm support it plus it's really genius the way they set this up only 2$ to remove add? That's cheap!!!
Controls are horrible. Very hard to move around they need to get rid of the nav overlay and make it swipe or touch in direction to go. At least make the nav overlay work better if anything.
Seems to run just fine but the music is a bit off. Also the buttons are slightly obtrusive on the screen. Could be more translucent
No issue with the game, but with the save functionality. It randomly works then the next day you are back to your save game from a few days ago. Not cool since these games take a lot of time grinding.
Reminds me of the good old days of gaming. Used to love the phantasy Star series. Sega you never fail to entertain. Keep up the great work.
Love this game so much but emulation is slow and clunky with touch screen. Just get it on pc or better yet get the real cart and play it on a Genesis.
I know it's nit picking but only one person physically attacks. I know that they all should be showing as they attack as I have this game on other media.
Too bad the free version is so full of unskipable 30 sec ads. It make you force to go buy the game or just quit.
Playing Phantasy Star II on my Axon 7 Mini has been a lot of fun. Especially since I can choose to use a Bluetooth controller or the virtual controller.
With the exception of a save system that is utterly broken, I found the game highly entertaining and addicting. I played Phantasy Star Online for the GC way back when and found it eye-opening to play this version. Fix the save system and I'll gladly dish out $3 for an add-free version.
How does an update make an app even worse? At least the game's video ran properly last time, now it stutters even more than the audio, WHICH STILL ISN'T FIXED
Good, but button layout is not transparent enough to be unnoticeable and keep the game itself clear and immersive.
Extremely low quality port. No video/filter options. No control options. Choppy framerate and audio. Please improve this Sega, your classics deserve better.
GREAT to see the LOVE from Sega with these great games being ported to phones... Please give more LOVE and care with Phantasy Star IV
The game runs fine but I can't play with my 8bitdo zero, I guess the dpad is configured as the analog inputs and this game requires the dpad, please fix that or give the option to map the controls manually
I do not mind the 30 sec ads to save, if the save feature worked. That bug makes the game unplayable.
Save game feature not working. Lost all my progress. Very upset
Won't save. Everytime i make progress i go to save when i come back to my Game its gone.
The Phantasy Star series is a classic and this is a pretty faithful port. The touchscreen controls aren't bad and given that this is an RPG the game is very forgiving in that regard.
It is Phantasy Star 2. The ad removal and local save is worth the small cost, but the ads aren't very intrusive without it.
The game is not emulated properly. The sound is off and the frame rate jumps around. I'm using a Note 4.
Cloud save does not work properly on the paid version of the game, lost a lot or progress. Have to rely on the in game save which is not great
Frame rate and save issues. Played for an hour last night, started the game today to find that all of that progress was gone.

Having only played the fourth Phantasy Star, this is very similar, but I think there a problem with the combat. I select a strategy, then attack, but the characters keep doing the same attack and not stopping for each turn. Sometimes they do and I can pick a different attack. It's almost like a button is stuck. Obviously, being a port, the graphics will be from that time period, but still fun none the less. The controls on the screen aren't always accurate.
