About TFN - Text Adventure Game

The Forgotten Nightmare is not your average game. In fact, at first glance you might think of it as a bit of a joke. I mean seriously, no graphics or sound at all? What kind of game is that? Long before quality graphics and sound was available on game systems, there were playable stories. Some have called them ‘Interactive Fiction’, others ‘Text Adventure Games’. Instead of using the machine’s graphic and sound capabilities, they used the player’s imagination. This game has been specifically designed to reignite that lost game genre while implementing a modern interface that makes for a surprisingly refreshing gaming experience.

When these classic style adventure games were at their peak, the player was responsible for making notes as they played so as to not get lost. With this game, a simulated hand-drawn map is available of all previously explored areas. Commands at one time had to be typed as well! That is no longer necessary as all commands can be entered using the provided buttons. Of course, for those who miss that nostalgic ‘Text Adventure Game’ experience, feel free to type the commands if you want. A joystick is also included to allow for quick navigation and also gives the ability to quickly ‘look around’. And if you get stuck, hints are readily available to help you get on your way again.

This Christian themed story begins with an accident. An accident that leaves you, as the player, unable to recall not only where you are, but who you are as well. Awakening in an overturned van, being suspended by your seatbelt, you must first figure a way of escape. Once free to explore the area, you find yourself in a world that not only seems strangely empty, but openly hostile as well. As the story unfolds and your memory begins to return, you begin to question whether these strange happenings are limited to the immediate area. If your experience of this small town is reflective of the state of the world, then things are certainly not as they used to be!

A word of warning! This seemingly dark tale is refreshed by a large number of humorous responses that if caught unaware, may have you bursting out in spontaneous laughter. This may cause embarrassment if played in a public place. In fact, no matter how many hours are spent playing this game, it would be nearly impossible to discover every comical response.

But really, could a game of this caliber truly have the power engage a player? A game without the advanced audio and video quality we’ve come to expect from modern entertainment? There is only one way to find out. Give it a try and discover why this hidden gem has quickly become loved by many who have decided to do so themselves. Some have even dared to say that it is the best game they have ever played. You may be surprised at how quickly and easily the story draws you in!

Nice app. Sadly i got stuck in the final town because a lock wont accept the corresponding key. Nevertheless this app deserves a big thumbs up for not using incomprehensible access rights to the phone.

What an amazing game. You never know what is around the corner. Some of the actions create a very entertaining game that is hard to put down. The maps and one click actions make it very playable and the rest is down to your imagination. Will keep on playing.

I loved text games growing up like Zork, even though they were often frustrating but highly addictive. This adventure proves to be no exception- with a twist. All thumbs up!

In this fictional universe all the non-Christians (including the presumably blameless children) suffer. I suppose I'd better convert!

Seriously anticlimactic ending for the common atheist. Well put together and fun to play but feels like a waste of a couple days at the end.

I am loving the story; it really has me intrigued. The gameplay is very nice. I do play with a Bluetooth keyboard though, so it would be nice if the cursor would stay in the text box after executing a command. It also would have been nice to know that I would still need the gas can. I dropped it somewhere because I didn't have enough space and I had to restart because I couldn't find it haha

For all those people mad about being christian need to get over it. No one is forcing you to download and play it. Don't give a bad rating just because of that, it's immature.

Started playing a couple days ago and spend hours playing it while commuting etc. Must be near the end now! Good thing there's a sequel. EDIT: Lame lame ending to an otherwise great game. Got preachy and awful. I play games as a distraction to life, not as a 'lesson'. Worst text game EVER.

This game is amazing! I really can't think of anything to change about it! Its really fun and interesting and I heard theres a 2nd part to it, can't wait till i finish this one! The game is hard but perfect for those who love a challenge! (People like me!)

I so enjoyed playing this game, but I can not get the flashlight. The story mentions it, but it's not in the list of available objects. Even when I went back with the batteries, it says the flashlight is one of the things I can see, but still it's not on the list in the second tab. I even restarted and tried again to the same result. Please fix this glitch, I'd love to be able to finish it.

Ending seemed a bit forced, and (spoiler) the fire seemed to have nothing to do with anything, but it had a great UI and interesting puzzles. Having to start vehicles in such a roundabout way was a pain; hopefully the sequel will absolve this.

I cannot get the key ring, WITH the access key on it, to unlock the thick lock to get to the roof access ladder. I am wanting to finish this game so I can get to the next one. I was so enthralled in this story and then this glitch happens. I would like this to at least be addressed and fixed so I can continue this great game.

I love text-based games, but thought the storyline was rather unexciting. Once it turned preachy, I was done with it.

The game is cleverly thought out, with a grim atmosphere and intriguing story. The message of the game is beautiful and I am now excited to play the second one!

I felt cheated. if you keep this game up for download please warn people first. Something visible, like Christian horror. The work was OK BTW not so much thrilling and the character development was awful you just weren't there with him, but the fluidity was there and the ui was practical. But as I said I disliked it from the moment I went into the church. There is a huge difference between taking inspiration and preaching the "one truth". Such a shame.

#minor spoiler alert The story starts off really good, it's like a great start of a mystery or a horror story. I was a teeny tiny little bit disappointed when I see the story is about preaching instead of a thriller. I'm not saying preaching is bad, but would you mind doing it a bit more subtle, that'll be great. Anyways I think it's a good story, quite a pain in the ass when I have to use the key ring to start the car every single time

I like the earily feel to the game and it was well done, but being a carefree and loving Christian myself, I prefer to focus on the positives with religion. For games I prefer them to be more secular. Honestly I was just a little creeped out, but good job with the game.

C70%
by C####:

The game is fun, especially since if you get stuck you can get hints or go to the walk-through. But WARNING: this game has a traditional Christian ulterior motive. It is effectively an extended sermon on the danger of sin, the coming of the end of days and a plea to confess your sins and turn to Jesus. Even being a Christian myself I do not agree with a forced message of such a somber nature. I do not think this is the way to have people turn to Christ. That being said, only the final part of the game is so preachy, boring and aimed at making you feel worthless and bad about yourself. So basically just skip through the last 3 or 4 tasks if you aren't interested in the religious stuff. Also I would like to comment to the developers that someone (even a Christian) suffering from depression or feelings of worthlessness could be dangerously negatively affected by this game. How about a hopeful final word - stressing the GOOD if you DO turn to God, instead of the bad if you do not? Also I agree with a previous comment that the game should be proof read since grammar and typing mistakes occur.

The greatest text adventure ever ,I can't wait to see more from the author,I just wanted to add that I red some these reviews and it was a bit dissapointed that people don't see this for what it is a great text adventure and the best interface ,and easy controls it's amazing ,and if u like text adventures this is for u ,the authors story was great and I commend him on his hard work there is no better text adventure out there his story came from the heart and that's what this is about good hard work

I actually enjoyed this game! It was easy to play, had a map and Walkthrough fot when I got stuck and had clear instructions. The reason why it didn't get 5 stars is because I was a little thrown by the religious aspect at the end (it didn't bother me I just didn't see it coming so was a bit thrown) and it didn't feel like a story, just instructions. If there was a little more description on places and items it would have been better.

C70%
by C####:

But it's kind of clunky and ugly. I played so many text-based adventures when I was young that I guess I was spoilt. It doesn't understand 'get' but tells me to use 'take'... A few more synonyms would go a long way towards making this a game worth playing

C70%
by C####:

WAYYYY too heavy on the preaching. Seriously. Good game though, interesting plot, and it had potential to being a really good game overall. However, the bible-pushing preaching was way too much. If you're trying to convert people, or get people interested, try rewriting so it's more subtle and not so obnoxious.

The story really held my attention. I don't usually get to the end of most text adventures, but this one won't let me go. Good Job

I used to love these old text adventures. Being able to click on the commands and items instead of typing everything in takes that bit of tedium away. Good job

The game is splendid. The only thing that spoils the rating is the sermon at the end which was perhaps not really required. Anyway looking forward to TFN-2. Keep it up Chris.

I actually liked the rapture theme. It was a little tiresome to have to enter the car and use the keys and exit it every single time but cool over all

D70%

I wish I'd read the reviews. It was good, suspenseful stuff right until a disappointing, pointless ending. Even if you are Christian, who wants to go to all that effort for a rapture story?

U70%
by U####:

Its great fun and a great way to past time if your on a car ride, waiting, or whatever! My only complaint is how sometimes when you choose a command to use on smthin it says something that makes you feel stupid and breaks the immersion. So like you choose "climb table", and it says "you really wanna dance on the table? Didnt think so." Like i didnt know! Maybe theres an air vent! Dont insult me for being curious. Overall, this is a great game, and i would recommend this to any fan of text adventures.

Great christian game with suspense, a creepy setting, and a lot of options and tasks. Great way to play without given scenery. So descriptive its not hard to imagine where you are. The map helps a lot too. I love this game can't wait to play the second one

K70%

i get the feeling that the developer doesnt care much about how we feel about the ui or gameplay or even the story. it seems to have been made for the purpose of comunicating a message. good work though. christian or not. it kinda got cheesy and predictable upon entering the second house. rapture story right? umm...where in the bible does it mention anything about a rapture? yeah, nowhere. might want to research that a bit. anyhoo...im gonna finish it just because its fun and i want to figure out the puzzle

I'm not sure how far I am into this game but so far so great! I think I'm about to take the canoe for a ride. Hope it doesn't disappear while I'm crossing the lake. Reading the reviews I pretty much know where this is going. Sad that many people get hostile when faced with the truth. There is certainly nothing wrong with having some fun while contemplating the most important questions in life. Real life! Thanks Chris!

T70%

I should have read the reviews before downloading. This "game" is offensive to anyone who isn't a Christian and should be properly labeled as a religious sermon.

This is a good game. I think it would have been nice to see what was next after they left. It is a great way to put the bible in the game. It also would be great if it where longer.

When I'm at the south door, I can't find the keys, and I've looked everywhere. Can someone tell me? It's like a bit after he'd/she'd left the truck.
