Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio is known in English as just Titian. Born in Italy between 1488/1490 and died in 1576 he was the most important member of the 16th century Venetian school. He is recognised by his contemporaries as "The Sun Amidst Small Stars", one of the most versatile Italian painters who was equally skilled at portraits, landscape backgrounds as well as mythological and religious subjects. His use and application of color influenced not only Italian Renaissance painters but also on future generations of western artists.
