About PCDB SuDoku Lite
PCDB SuDoku Lite aims to help you solve Killer SuDoku and SuDoku games. It enables you to enter details of a game by hand, and ask the app to solve the game, or solve it yourself using information and tools provided by the app. The game is deleted once it has been solved. (The full version of the app allows you to save it for future use.)
It is designed for Android tablet devices with a minimum screen size of 1024x600.
It was originally designed to solve the games published by The Times newspaper, and to date has solved every Times game that has been tried on it. This is most Killer SuDoku games from 2009 and most SuDoku games since November 2004.
SuDoku is a game that uses a 9 x 9 grid, split into nine 3 x 3 “boxes”. The aim of the game is to place the digits 1 to 9 into the grid so that each digit occurs once and once only in each Row, Column and Box. Some digits are already included in the grid, and the objective is to use these to fill in the remaining Cells.
In a Killer SuDoku game, no digits are included in the grid. Instead, the grid is partitioned into a number of “groups” of up to nine touching Cells, usually represented by a dotted line enclosing the Cells or by use of different colours for each Group. A digit can't be repeated within such a Group, so a Group is limited to nine Cells. The sum of all the digits in the Group is given, usually printed in the top left-most Cell in the Group. The objective is to use the layout of these Groups, and their sums, to work out the value in each Cell, subject to the standard SuDoku rules about each digit being unique in each Row, Column or Block.
The app uses strict logic to solve games of either type, and assumes that there is a single unique solution.
The app doesn't have a store of games of its own. It is aimed at helping you solve those you find in newspapers, magazines and books of puzzles.
It does include a full Help file.
