Ortus Regni is a new and novel card game inspired by the late Anglo-Saxon period of English history. The Late Anglo-Saxon era in English history is a time of warring Earls. Minor kings all, they claim whatever lands they can. They establish fiefs, cultivate powerful vassals, and fight and engage in endless political struggles. All the while, the Vikings roam not just the sea, but the land.
It is truly a Dark Age. Or is it?
This is Ortus Regni, “the birth of the kingdom.”
The ancient world is dead. The world is reborn. Anyone can become a king through politics and diplomacy – or by the blade. And it is always, in the end, by the blade. Will it be you?
Ortus Regni is a unique closed-deck, deck-design strategy card game. Players take the role of great Earls vying to control what will become England. Ortus Regni was inspired not only by Anglo-Saxon history, but also by the art of illuminated medieval manuscripts.

Really wanted to like the game based on other reviews, but I've never heard of the game and don't know how to play. The game has a tutorial but it basically says "Do this, this and this" but doesn't tell you what your actions mean or why exactly you're doing them. "Attack with these cards to do 5 damage!"; but why do they do 5 damage?

I would have rated this five stars if it were still available on my phone. Currently it's a tablet only version. Once it gets ported back to phones I will bump my rating. I love the game I just do not have access to it.

I have played almost a hundred games. I will play hundreds more. This beautifully designed card game is my favorite of all card games. There is nothing quite like it. Ordered the physical version of it 9 days ago, but still no word back or shipping info yet...hopefully soon. Until then, I have this terrific app that has the full game, a deckbuilder, and multiplayer...for free!

Not only is Ortus Regni a brilliantly orchestrated strategy card game, but you can see the creators love for the period In the immaculate artwork and overall game layout. This is one of those games you just can't help to come back too not only because its highly enjoyable structure, but because of its charm as well.
