About Doughnut
The "Loungers" alumni of Erindale College (University of Toronto) still gather each year to talk about the good old days and play Doughnut the old fashioned way with cards and a score sheet. Now with Doughnut for Android all they need is their phones.
Do you know why poker is so popular? It's because any number of people can play and there is an element risk involved. However, since playing poker or gambling of any fashion in a university environment is frowned upon, some other similar game that could accommodate 3 - 10 hard-studying students was sought after. That alternative game was never found but in the mid 1970's one was born and it's name is Doughnut.
Just like Seinfeld was a show about nothing, Doughnut is a card game that has nothing to do with doughnuts.
If you understand the basic trump and trick style of card game you are 90% of the way to being a Doughnut pro.
The object of the game is to win tricks and reduce your score to zero. To win tricks you must, just like in poker, play in the hand. You win a trick you get a point off of your score, win two tricks get two points off, ....
However, if you fail to take a trick your score is increased by 5 points. Back in the days of old, a circle or Doughnut would be placed around your new total to highlight your failure. This is now performed by food images.
Enjoy.
