Chess Free

Infuriating. It was a decent app with tolerable ads on the bottom of the screen. Now, the ads are still there, but every time it's my move, the game disappears and my play store opens to some other nonsense it wants me to download. Then I have to close the app and re-open it to get back to the game. Avoid.

Used to be really good. Now it has obnoxious full screen ads and you have to restart your game. Also freezes constantly. Game hasn't been updated in 4 years. I think the developer has abandoned the app.

I like that you can choose which colour you want to be and also the difficulty level. I would like the pieces to be a little bigger and easier to differentiate. I always thought that 'white' moved first.. Not in this version. Over all a great little basic chess game.

this game is pretty good unless i choose to play 1 player. then when i win, or almost win it says "IT'S A DRAW - DRAW BY STALEMATE". this game is really annoying if ur super competitive like me. so if i were u i wouldnt download it. you never win!!!

I loved this at first.....then it fell apart. Pop-ups go nuts and start to overwhelm my phone. I tried removing the app and reinstalling it. This stopped it for a while and then it started again. I have other apps from this company and have no problems with them. I am now removing this app for good.

It's a great game! You've done it justice in your version. It really needs clearer piece symbols & pleasessss get rid of the in play ads. It's so annoying, focus losing, irritating, makes the game unenjoyable.

It wouldn't let me move in certain places so in some instances I couldn't move a player to win or kill another player. Please fix this is REALLY annoying!

Too many chess game developers r so fixated on writing an AI *difficult* to beat for *seasoned* player that result is game *impossible* to beat for *not* so seasoned player. This isn't a good thing, because in Abstract Strategy game, some things you just can't learn if game is over before it begins once skill level is taken into account - and no, the 'tutors' some games offer is *not* a solution. A diverse sliding scale for AI level is the only solution -- and this is the only Chess app I know of with that.

This is one of the best chess apps I've ever seen! Finally the search is over and I don't have to deal with annoying ads. My only critique is that I can't do tournament level moves, but I still highly recommend that you download this FREE app!

Helps make the time go by. The skill level allows you to challenge yourself to become a better player. Plus the undo action allows you to learn from your mistakes. And that's ok with me. A great chess game

I've used this app for several years. Loved it for most of those years. Lately, however the game is constantly interupted by pop ups directing to the play store. I understand that free versions are supported by adds, but this is ridiculous. Banner ads were tolerable, but the constant pop ups are very annoying. I have uninstalled this app and looking for a new chess app.

At one time this app was awesome! The graphics and game play are still the best. However recently it opens and allows play very slowly, like one minute, and seems to also spawn install pop ups wanting me to click install. I would pay for this app if it didn't have these issues. I am uninstalling my favorite chess app.

The pictures you see is exactly what is in the game. It is just a chess board. It is convenient with speed and simplicity, yet you can't choose what color you are when facing the computer. That stinks. I do not advice people with fat fingers to play this game. My fingers are normal and a still have a difficult time moving my pieces. I often move the wrong pieces because of the such small squares. It would be great if it had a zoom like when viewing pictures on a phone.

perfect for the long rides, and when your in between waits in long line. I've noticed that the some buttons are off size (menu buttons)... I have given it a five for its practicalness but it seems the developer isn't listening to my issues. Please fix the button issues on note 4 display, they are to small.

Great pass time! It's challenging at the default difficulty (which you can change). It has an "undo" button that will revert back your moves, which is great for practice/learning your mistakes. Ads are very limited, so they don't really annoy like other games with ads. Great game.

Before you could move your chess pieces anywhere to they're ability but now you can't , it make you lose to the stupid computer or a real player. And the ads they are actually by Google in all apps. YOU CAN PAY TO HAVE NO ADS BUT IT FREACKING A RIP OFF.

Whatever mode or difficulty you put it on, you always will lose ! I keep playing it on no difficulty. That's how bad it is. Even on that mode, you still lose! One time I was on check, and I clicked on another place, where no other pieces were to be checkmate, and it won't let me! That's why I gave it 2 stars. The second star Is just for the good graphics. Very bad, the game.

It's a great game but it can get better. (1)It can adopt the background music like the apple version (2) It can keep your ranking in a database and record your improvements (3) At the end of each game you can inform the user on which method was used to beat them so the user can study the different players of the past and present to get better (hence the second opinion stated). Overall it's a decent game of chess and the sound effects are nice add ons.

no better chess game. sometimes there is a glitch or two where the peices get stuck but I have been playing for six years now and haven't found a better chess game for android yet! You have to know how to identify a stalemate and turn it into a checkmate before its a tie. If u can't beat the computer you suck! Updated from 12/25/15!

I've seen five commercials and crashed three times, but haven't moved a chess piece yet. But they wanted to make sure I rated the app. Maybe you should code that pop up for after a game is actually played.

Great app. Computer plays or "adjusts"according to your skill level. Advertisements are minimum and place at the bottom of screen. Only thing i don't like, is that you can't challenge the computers 'passe pawn' but it can take yours if you move pass its pawn.

This is a fun and easy to use app that is a great learning tool for trial and error to improve your chess game. Plus I love the adjustable levels do everything you can to improve I can slowly increase the challenge so it's not frustrating, but enjoyable and provides a graded competition :)

I keep getting stalemate when I clearly can win. I excel at chess my first time playing and learning it. I always plan 5 moves ahead. I'm not that smart like others to plan 14 moves ahead. But I know when I have a checkmate. I'm finding a new chess app. You suck.

Looking for a different chess game. The game ending in stalemate when I Cleary have the upper hand and am about to get checkmate is so frustrating. Jus one sided also. When I'm in the same situation I could make like 20 moves and nothing. Stalemate should be an option... I like playing chess on my kindle but stalemate ruins the game...

Been playing for a while now. On medium difficulty. Its a good challenge until one of the computer's pawns turns into a queen out of no were and without even moving from its place. Please fix the "bug" otherwise it's ok.

I had this app when I had my iPhone and I loved it. Downloaded it here and expected similar quality, but was very disappointed. The interface is far worse and makes it way harder to use. This app was made for the iPhone. The Android version is a sloppy remake.

A brilliant and intuitive chess game let down only by a frustrating bug that freezes the game when a pawn gets to exchange! However, this only occurs on my Kindle and not my Android phone which works perfectly. If it wasn't for the bug I would give it five stars!!

No way to use undo after the game is done and forced draw even if you are winning if computer does the stalemate made me take 2 stars off. Most off the time doesnt save a game or saves incorectly if phone is on standby. Fix those and I will give 5 stars...

This game makes you really think but sometimes it is unfair. Most of the times, (i dont why and i dont know how), i get "checkmate-ed" even if there are still ways to escape. It is just unfair. :(

Love the game itself. Really nice. But it doesn't allow you to make certain moves if it's about to take out their piece, and it also just gives up and "draws" when you're about to win. Makes it less fun

A big 0 for not allowing an undo after checkmate. This is my way of studying the middle & end game & you take that from me. Seeing what I did wrong & try to correct it. Close & the other apps arn't that far behind if they r not ahead

When im in a game it works fine but after a checkmate occurs it either freezes or crashes and then I'd have to wait another 5 minutes just for the app to reload to play another game. Better chess apps than this one

I know chess can be complex, but in some ways it can be a simple game. Chess Free manages to keep it simple while still taking advantage of all the complexities of this time honored diversion. It's the only chess game on my phone because it does exactly what I need.

I noticed a glitch when playing against the computer... I'm not sure if im the only one but as soon as the computer takes over my queen with the Bishop, that same bishop now has the ability to move around like the queen. (Weird) I would give this game 5 stars.. but since the actual game has glitches it deserves a 1 star rating..you cant play right like this

Every time I am about to win, the app stops the game and tells me "it's a draw!" Also when I am in check, I can't move my king at all or attack any of the prices. It was fun, but now it isn't. Please fix!!!

Installed a few months ago. Played almost everyday. Today I noticed that one of my pieces disappeared after I moved to a place where the computer could not take my piece. I repeatedly made this move and then undid it. Each time my pice vanished from a "safe" square and again my piece disappeared. Un installing.

Theres a glitch that is irratating me and the glitch is when u cant move the pieces even though they can move there coz I KNOW THE PRIEST CAN MOVE DIAGONALLY !

This used to be my favorite app but since it's latest update every time I open the app it takes me to the Google store to download some other game. Even when I could still get into the app, pop-ups would take over relentlessly taking me to the Google store to download other games. I am removing this app as it has become unusable.
