NYTimes - Crossword for Android
I can't see the theme, and I can't see the special features, like the four "ax" below today's puzzle, or the "three letters in a single square" feature for the body-parts-themed puzzle a few days ago. It makes the puzzles much more difficult to solve, sometimes even downright impossible. Being able to zoom in and out would solve this issue. Zoom out to see special features and themes, zoom in to current view to solve.
I love this game but it still has some bugs. Sync between the app and website is hit or miss. Often works great but other times only some works sync. I also really wish I could use my physical bluetooth keyboard with the app instead of the built in one.
Love the crossword. App insists on its own bad keyboard which misses many keypresses. Also (though this has gotten an little better of late) it doesn't consistently fetch the next day's puzzle when it's already been open
Love the app. Only negative comment is that I wish it would have instructions on how to achieve a yellow solved puzzle. I've Googled it without any luck in finding out how the yellow puzzle is determined. I've solved many without help, but most are still blue. Also solved many typing in each letter without mistake and many are still blue. Have made mistakes in some and fixed them without help and they are yellow. Have asked for help in some and it warns me this will stop my streak - not sure why this warning doesn't display the first time I ask for help on every puzzle.
A couple of specific problems... Hitting the previous word button often brings up the rebus screen. Quite a pain. Second, need to be able to zoom. Windows Phone has this feature but not Android.
I really love this app. Yeah, you have to pay extra for the puzzles even as a digital subscriber to the paper - that annoyed me at first but I got over it. I agree with another reviewer here: please note when the puzzle is a rebus so I can be sure to skip it. Edit: I still really love this app and am getting the hang of rebus puzzles, so I don't mind that they're not flagged. My biggest complaint is that my bluetooth keyboard doesn't work with the app - I sent a suggestion to NYT about this but never heard back from them and the keyboard still doesn't work.
There is a flaw in the offline mode where it will delete clues you've entered randomly. Also, every month or so there's one puzzle that won't open and it just crashes the app. Go ahead and fix that and I'll up my rating to five stars.
FWIW I'm still over the moon that there's a Android app. But a couple of bugs that really hurt my experience: 1. When I'm offline and I finish half of a puzzle, when I go back into that puzzle, online or offline, a random subset of my answers are gone. And 2. Certain puzzles make the app crash consistently, no matter what. I can't complete them on mobile, only desktop. Happy to help troubleshoot if you need.
Edited to reflect a fix I found for being unable to login w my email. I deleted the app and reinstalled after resetting the password. Now am happy happy w have travel access to my puzzles.
It is 2017 (almost '18). Looks like the folks in the social media department need to get involved. Snapchat mini is what led me to this poorly designed app. Can't use my pen, keyboard is terrible and the design is flat and unappealing. I expect more from NYT.
Keyboard taps sometimes not recognized, and I could use a key to switch selection from across to down. But you know what? I love it!
Curiously, the app can be quite laggy, but otherwise it is full of great crossword puzzles to solve. Of course, worth noting that there is a subscription fee!
Since the last update it's super slow to enter words on a Samsung phone e. The app lags a second or two after every input. Please fix.
The app itself is solid. My main gripe is the cost of puzzle packs. $4 for 20 medium puzzles? That's more expensive than a book that actually takes materials to print.
The ad said this app was free. It's only a trial. Not free. Next time don't lie in your ads. Deception is not a good way to get users.
Created my account via google but can't use it to log in. Stuck with trial.
Not as nice as Standalone's app. It's really annoying that the NYT recently stopped allowing subscribers from using third-party apps to solve the puzzles we subscribe to. Why go out of your way to annoy your subscribers? And no leader board??? No clue view? (Only grid mode.)
I don't always have time for the full puzzles but I'm burning through the mini-puzzles while my free subscription is still active.
Controls are easy to use. Keyboard works well. Subscription is pricy (to me), but if you like crosswords, this should be worth the money.
I enjoy this way of accessing and playing virtually unlimited archived NYT crossword puzzles. I especially appreciate that I can access as little or as much help as I choose, by checking or revealing a square, a word, or even the whole puzzle if I want to.
Great way to kill time whenever needed. The controls are easy and intuitive. Tons of puzzles, plus more on the NYT website.
Perfect for crossword nerds! Updated daily with my digital subscription. Carries over work from the website.
Great to be able to do puzzles on Android devices finally. Much easier and faster on laptop however. Wish that I could see across and down clues at the same time.
I had been using the iPhone version of this app and liked it. The Android version is ok but lacks features like stats. No bugs so far at least.
Adequate crossword app, but the fact you have to subscribe to it even though I already have a NYT sub is just silly.
Great, but annoying I can't see the theme or title in Android version.
Don't like the bold chunky font!
Great app to access the best daily crossword puzzle resource im the country. Can't imagine why some don't like it.
You can't recreate solving puzzles on paper but this interface is great for solo solving.
It needs to have your statistics like the web and iOS apps.
I miss the titles that come with the Sunday puzzle.
Genuinely addictive. Decent free content. Way more convenient than the one in the paper.
I have a NYT subscription and love this app. I do the daily crossword every morning.
Can't live without it! Take it on the plane!
Would appreciate if you would sync with Google Play Games
Plays well on my stuff .The best puzzles most always.
Have to subscribe to it xD
Best crossword app out there.

I'm still very happy the NYT finally realized the whole world doesn't all use iPhones, but this app could use some polish. The keyboard is really not great, and misses key presses, especially if I type with both thumbs. I wish the app would just give me the option to use my regular keyboard and not the built in one.
