After playing for over 4 years, and after trying other backgammon apps, I feel pretty confident that this is the best. Yes there are times playing against the computer that you can tell that it is not going to let you win. Yes the rolls are random & prerolled but this is no guarantee of fairness. The game should alternate first player to be more fair. However it by far a better game and more fair than any other backgammon that I have tried.

Still love the app. Still wish I could hide pip count, while still being able to see the stat in match info. Would really help in improving a weak part of my game. Best backgammon app available. Greatly improves your game and fun to play. I bought extreme gammon for my iPad and it pales in comparison - particularly in the areas of graphics and unobtrusive tips. It would be nice to be able to hide pip count with option to view it at "match info" or "hint." Edit: love it. Thanks for the quick response. Most used app (for good or bad) by far.

Needs option for RNG seed to change randomly on each throw like GNU. Because of the lack of this I find the dice generated may be favouring the AI in some way. It also should have a way of evaluating the luck for each match/game. As I often feel it's heavily loaded towards the AI. Overall I feel it's somewhat overpriced for what it is and nowhere near as good as GNU. However in saying that the AI is as good as GNU when using manual dice. I am playing both GNU and NJ on expert level.

Best backgammon game bar none. Would love to see more difficulty levels though. My ELO hovers around 1700-1725 and I find Hard level frustrating at times but Medium makes too many silly mistakes. Keep up the good work!

I bought this way before I knew about xg and have considered switching, but to be honest, expert level is fantastic for a mobile app. I still use xg on my laptop. Well done to the creator. I feel a bit sorry for him (Jimmy Hu), as amateurs seem unable to grasp that this app doesn't cheat.

by D####:

Frankly it seems rigged. Whenever the computer is on the bar, it "throws the correct dice to come back on even when there is only one or two points open. As soon as you leave a stone open, the computer got a it next roll, yet hitting the computer's open stones is less likely.

V70%
by V####:

Playing the expert level there is no chance of ever getting ahead. The roll dices for the computer are so conveniently precise. It's predictable. I have played over and over again and it's just frustrating that the computer gets the exact dice it needs to win every single time. I know what you are going to say, that it's random. But that's bollocks. I'm done!

The best backgammon software on Google Play. The dice are real random. It makes small mistakes in the bear off phase but this is not an concern. Congratulations for the developers!

D70%
by D####:

Great app but I find it very hard to beat even at the Easy level. I've played hundreds of games and the app wins twice as often as I do. I'm not saying the app cheats, because I'm sure it doesn't. I'm just saying I don't know how to beat it.

The RNG isn't rigged, it's sooooo rigged lol. The published stats are probably fiction. It's equally hilarious the author defending it. If it were random I wouldn't be down over 5k pips in the bearoff, not would I have to watch the computer throw joker after joker after joker, nor would every timing game I try to play be disrupted. . The author's narcissism in defending this repeatedly takes away from what is otherwise an outstanding product. If you treat this as a learning tool and laugh at the computer throwing 35 to 1 shot after 35 to 1 shot, while you throw bricks for half the match, you'll be fine. After all, you'll have plenty of practice working from adverse positions with this product. If what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, your skills should improve dramatically playing this app.

Best Backgammon app by far. If you want to become a better player there's no substitute. Worth every penny and played daily by me. Can't recommend it enough.

I've been playing Backgammon NJ for years, on Android and IOS. It's smart and has helped me to up my game. But despite the developer's incessant "Proof here" diatribe I'm still able to predict what the computer is about to roll far far too often. If you want to see proof of your ability to force rolls, play intentionally badly. Try to get as many of your pieces on the bar as you can, and then keep them in the opening quarter. The more you do it the more 6s and 5s you'll roll, because it's trying to help you. If you then play a couple of games as well as you can you'll be back to normal. You can tell when it switches. Try it. Having said that, it's by far the best backgammon game out there. I'd pay double what I did, happily. I'm glad it's as smart as it is because it's made me a better player.

I play alot.... So the attraction is there ( Good application ). The players are mostly egotistical wish they wouldn't worry about rating so much and just Play. Higher level player's will disappear when there losing. Whatever .... grow differently and play. Just a game nothing personal.

Best app I've used. Learned a lot and this has improved my game! I can verify that the game is honest and even when the computer gets the lucky rolls, I typically beat it! You can even use manual dice input. Awesome app if you'd like to impove!

D70%

Never, ever in real life seen so many doubles. The computer has a crafty wit at perfect bailouts. Considering roll probabilities, I think the "neural net" blah

Excellent neural network driven AI. Has made me a Better player. Good interface. Good app for casual backgammon players or for hardcore players looking for serious analysis and game improvement opportunities

Excellent app and fab for improving game in spare moments travelling or whatever. Plays fair but hard! Remember the better player always seems to get the lucky rolls they need as they set their board up to maximise the number of great rolls available to them. That's Backgammon...

L70%
by L####:

Great app with good features and excellent skills. Seems there is no perfect random generator as after 127000 throws each, 4614 games and yet another auto finish, from throw 1 round while watching TV, 33 cpu to 6 player points I see bias in the dice not reflected in the collected stats. Keeping my own stats I see Cpu 2nd throw doubles are approx 400% of the player. Handy when setting up early in the game. Recording hit rate off the bar with 1st throw against a single open piece is 55% for cpu and 32% for player over about 1000 games. OCD I know but these stats have remained steady. I repeat, this is not my playing skill. It was using auto- finish or hints from the first throw.

Had this on ios now 3 years on android great stuff, a well made app that has improved in the 6 years I have used it. Thank you for this app.

I've had this game for 6 years, first on an iPhone and now on Android. It is quick to play when you have a few minutes to kill and has sophisticated features that make it very challenging

Z70%
by Z####:

I am so sick of players leaving matches when things are looking bad for them....and then being rewarded. IM PRETTY SURE IN REAL LIFE.....YOU DONT GET REWARDED WHAT SO EVER FOR WALKING AWAY FROM A MATCH. IF PEOPLE DO NOT FINISH THE GAME...DO NOT REWARD THEM. I COULD BE LOSING AT THE TIME THEY WALK AWAY....BUT I HAVE NOT LOST. SO WHY MUST I BE PUNISHED JUST CAUSE I DONT HAVE THE LEAD WHEN PEOPLE QUIT???

D70%
by D####:

Very fair AI, and game statistics are good to keep a check on how you're doing historically and also how AI is being kept honest.

D70%
by D####:

Truly laughable dice , I think I would give up playing Backgammon altogether if my opponent rolled like this as they would be almost unbeatable. Play with manual dice & watch your game suddenly improve !!

F70%
by F####:

The algorithm for the dice rolls is in favor of ai. And the way to show it in real time would be to display the dice totals for each game and the number of doubles rolled by ai and player. It needs adjustment. Respect your customers.

Until these games provide an easy to use turn by turn independent random roll generator the overwhelming impression is this is just a very good simulator. Excellent tutorial and game analysis but after paying thousands of matches it agressivly took a double at 1-0 down and redoubled up to 8 with a hopeless position no back game nothing and I rolled 1-2 six times in row while it ran home with doubles to win so I stopped playing it for five years. Coming back after giving up on XG when it slyly used 1.9 gb on my phone and became unplayable, I found NG much improved but still pretty much as I remember. My Elo on XG hit 2000 in full competition mode and over 1900 on NJ. As a programmer I know that support for independent easy to use dice is trivial and pretty much any serious player would grab it with both hands and happily pay for it so why not?
