QII4A (source port of quake 2) for Android
LG G6, make sure when you take the baseq2 folder you haven't played the game on your computer or whatever you have downloaded it on. Also in order to successfully load the game you have to find the proper system directory and type it in to the port.
Works great for all quakes, but how do I play the expansion packs on quake 2 and 3 (I have the expansion's already on my Android)? I have no problem on quake 1. Will change to 5 if I get help.
Anyone know how to get the ogg files playing? Edit: well, after some fiddling, I managed to get the music playing by typing snd_restart in the console, but by doing so, stops all sound effects.
This port is very good. You can play at insane resolutions, and even play online. It runs at full speed on my Nvidia Shield. However, there's some issues preventing a 5th star for me. The triggers can't be mapped nor can the dpad(it's a no-brainer that an FPS needs these). Without these you can't have everything binded. You can remove the touchscreen buttons, but you need the touch joystick on screen to browse the menus. This is present on all ports by this developer. It works and works well though.
Great port and runs perfectly. I had to put the files on my internal storage because there were some issues when I had it on my SD Card. Touch controls are, surprisingly, accurate. I do have a few questions: Can you add mods, and if so, what mods does the port support? I want to add music and texture mods to enhance the experience. Its been 3 years since your last update so I don't know if you will reply but pls do.
For those of you that can't get this to work, you need to figure out your system's directory structure. The quickest way to figure this out is to open a File Explorer, browse to your sd card and use the drop-down menu to view Details or Properties. For example, with my LG Optimus, it is /storage/external_SD/qii4a Good Luck and happy Quaking! Big thanks to the developers and publisher of this app!
When starting game it loads to console, and i cant access keyboard or anything else, on screen controls are visible. But can't exit console with them
Does exactly what it says. Controls are a little difficult to master at first. But then after a couple of levels i seem to get the hang of them. My only gripe is I'm not able to type in the command box letters other than a,b,c and d. I wanna use a couple of cheats. I'm finding it difficult to progress. Appreciate any help.
Claims it can't find the game files in the chosen directory when it blatantly is installed there. Lame.
How to change weapons? And what are buttons on top right them arrows? They do nothing.

But pls fix the mouse sensitivity coz its too slow even i full up the options ill give u 5 stars if u fix dis.
Controls are awesome and im nearly finished with the campaign, only thing is im tryint to play with bots but no matter which one I use it loads but I cant add bots wifh the addbot command, or whatever command the bot author tells me to use. Help please. I tried Eraser bot, gladiator, crbot, etc.
Works exactly as advertised. Using a USB mouse/keyboard is a little problematic on my unrooted device but very playable with a bluetooth gamepad.
To play ground zero or the reckoning or zaero expansion packs put them in the same folder as the baseq2 folder NOT inside it then run qii4a with the command line yquake2.arm +set game zaero. For the reckoning +set game xatrix. for ground zero +set game rogue awesome but would love touch feature like the unofficial quake2 touch
Developer says that gamepads must be configured in game, like on pc. One problem: The menus for this have been removed, so you can't.
I would've given it 5 stars but the Dev is an a-hole so 1 star forever till he apologizes
I open the setup and configure the Q2 content files and it's fine but then I press the "Start game" button and it just crashes without any message and returns to my home screen. Tried the game on my Android 2.3 and 4.0 phones :/
The only game/app I've found that will output FULL HD 1080p graphics over an hdmi cable to a screen from a 720p phone (non-rooted too). Why can't others do this?
Amazing. Relive the entire experience of the same old game. Simply superb
Someone managed to make a mobile Q2 port that you can actually play! Controls are awesome for a cellphone, also great sound and graphics quality. Just have one doubt, What do I need to do to have in game music?
EDIT: figured out how to type in the console now...
This game is perfectly ported to android os, it runs beautifully on my jxd s5800. I did encounter a slight issue. when using the physical controls the camera moves down ever so slightly on its own now it doesnt render the game unplayable but its still a small issue. I found this issue on qi4a and qii4a but not on qiii4a
No matter what I do, I can't get the music working. Have the dev fix that, and I'll give it five stars.
Still buggy. Update: upgraded to Droid Turbo now the keyboard doesn't work in the game.
It's working ok. You just need to copy the root files of the game in qii4a folder. It also has to be created in root folder of the phone. That is it. Thanks.
Just amazing, runs really well. Controls are pretty much perfect. Do you think you could port half life 1, it's runs on the quake2 engine as well. That'd open a whole world for replaying mods and stuff

Crashes upon selecting a difficulty and before the actual game starts. I was able to run this on my S duos. Still giving it 5 stars because I know it works. How to make it work on my phone?

This app works very well on both my JXD S7800 gamepad and my Nvidia Shield tablet. Heck, it runs really well on the Ouya as well. Good controller support. On the Shield I had to conjure up a control scheme with a blend of the controller mapping utility and the built in game config but I got everything I needed onto the controller - even that stupid computer message. :) This also runs the rogue and xatrix add-on mission packs for hours of Quake 2 fun. I can't think of anything this version is missing.
The only issue I have is not being able to play the mission packs unless someone else is. First, I would like to know how, if it is possible, to play the mission packs by myself. Second, if you add all (I doubt all of them are necessary, but I figured better just do all of it) the files from the Quake II, and not just the baseq2, you can play the mission packs IF someone else already is.
Instantly crashed every time i press "play game". No errors or anything, just shows a black screen for a second and closes. I got the directory set and all,by the way. For now,1 star until i get some help.

Works briliantly with my samsung tab 3, only issue so far i had is that for some reason i can't enable ogg vorbis soundtrack on it :( I did place the files inside baseq2/music, but it always in the console says that it cannot find the playlist file. Anyways, great job!
Doesn't support 16x MSAA, but does do everything else. Runs smooth at 720p, 4x MSAA, 60fps.
It wont start what am I doing wrong
Only wish is keyboard and mouse support, dosbox turbo is an example, but excellent work.

The game runs and looks just great, as per the dev's instructions and he's done a great job. However, it's worth pointing out that vanilla QII patched to 3.2 should be used and that baseq2 folder copied over to the device. The mistake I was making was copying the baseq2 folder from a modded Q2 game. Great job.
