Oscura for Android
The visuals are great, but The controls choose when they want to work. More often than not the jump doesn't work when trying to directional jump. Making you fall on what you're trying to jump over. Killing you time and again.
Solid enough gameplay, but it feels somehow flat. Something vital is missing, but not sure what. Also very short. Contrary to some reviews, the controls are fine. They can be changed to a more traditional arcade layout by accessing the menu via the back button if the default doesn't appeal. Controls will never be fantastic without a gamepad, but such is the case with all arcade games on a smart phone.
Really nice side scrolling game looks brilliant plays well well worth buying. It is a bit slow loading so be patient. I thought my device had frozen but it sorted it's self out and the game ran fine. I have original samsung galaxy tab 7.
Cute platformer but it never really develops any of the core gameplay concepts. Given the visual design is lifted wholesale from Badland I recommend that as your next download. You get a LOT more game for your money there, and better repay value too.
The controls for this game need some polishing. If you can get around it then it can be a fun game. Great art work, very Lombo-esk feeling, story starts out in the same land where the Gorillaz filmed Feel Good inc. So that's a plus.
For all those who think the game freezes at the first screen... The first time you load the game it needs to extract the assets, if you just wait for a little bit it will be fine. Any time after it will load fast. I just installed and it works great.
Very well done, awesome graphics! Reminds me a lot of limbo :) Only thing I don't particularly like is it takes a while to load, but it's definitely worth waiting. I don't normally buy apps, but Oscura is a great game, worth paying for!
The graphics are this game's selling point. Take those away, and this is just another average platformer. The controls are confusing, unresponsive, and sometimes just incorrect at times. The game would be perfect if it had a more traditional left/right arrow for moving, and a button for jumping. Edit: Turns out there are traditional controls in the game. I just couldn't find them at first!
This is one of my favorite mobile games, it's fun, addicting, and dark. The only problem is the control scheme, you can't even stand still, which is a problem when your trying to stand on a mobile platform. Fix this and I will rate 5 stars.
I've owned this game for awhile, but didn't sit down and play through it until today. Oscura is, short as it may be, a great platformer that doesn't try to extend itself by overwhelming the player with more levels than it should have. The game is great for both the casual and hardcore whereas the casual can just playthrough without having a problem. But the hardcore are offered an intense challenge by collecting the cogs and gaining 4 star ranking. 12 levels in all. And a lot of replayability
If I were to rate this game on visuals alone, I would give it 5 stars. I feel it is let down by its rough controls and physics along with the sound and music quality. It's almost as if someone went "We've got decent graphical components and a game that just about works, that should be fine."
Level 4 is glitched on the SG III. Unable to complete due to screen stuttering and freezing. The rest of the game is brillantly crafted! I will rereview after the next update.
This game does work on the Nexus 7. It is a lot like limbo. Suffice to say this game is definitely worth 1 dollar. I've only playing at 5 levels I love it so far! However the touch controls can be annoying sometimes
3.5 stars really. The controls are a little difficult sometimes. Fun and challenging platformer nonetheless. Styling reminds me of Limbo. Not much of anything in the way of a story but I bought it mainly for the platforming aspect.
Its terrible, the control is bad, the enemies come out of nowhere and head but you, and there's only 12 levels.
If they improve jogability I would give 2 more stars. I keep dying because this stupid controls. They simply don't respond ... awful!
This is totally worth the 1 dollar. I think it's worth more though. The only thing that bothers me, is it adds 15 videos to my SD card.
Brilliant game and good levels. But could do with more levels or at least an option to download free/purchase more. Also, small bug if you rotate your device when it first loads up. Other than that great game and would recommend.
I dind't realise the levels would be so short and only 12!? Of them. Get it, the art alone is worth its price but hopefully we get more levels or maps soon.
The game is fun but as far as i can tell, it only has 12 levels. I was very disappointed about that after paying. A few more worlds and it would of been 5 stars
It doesn't work on Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (WT19i) with Android 4.0.4. When "Chapter Select" shows, i can't touch anything: info or level number - my phone doesn't react at all.
Gorgeous art and music, game play is good and comfortable. Yes, everything kills you right away and you die about 15 times each level. Personally, I quite like that it's not too easy. You also get plenty of save points in each level so it doesn't get annoying to die so often. However, I do wish it was longer (not for the money, just to have more play time!) and it really does need a restart button.
Disappointing. It looks really cool, but it's too hard to control oscura. The default controls are difficult, so i was glad to see an option with buttons. But you have to be so exact with the buttons, and sometimes they're unresponsive, usually when I'm in the air over spikes or something. Plus there is no explanation of the stars and how to get 4/4. I've done a flawless level and gotten 2 or 3 stars. It's just no fun because of these issues.
I'll change my rating once they add more levels. Ive had this game since the nexus 7 came out and no updates or added levels. Very disappointed with what I paid for. There are better games out there that are free. Works well on my unrooted nexus 7.
Game won't load. Gets stuck on loading page (CLF) then won't close so I have to force shutdown. I can see from the reviews that I am not the first this has happened to & don't think I will be the last. Don't want to pay for a game I can't play.
Bought it because of the preview images. Its great. Nice simple game. Very easy buttons. Great fun. Only played a couple of minutes but definitely a game i would play again. But!! (had to change comment) they need a restart button!!!
Xoom has issues but the atrix runs it without an issue, mainly slow down. Really great and enjoyed it event if short it's hard to get all stars per level.
I bought because it looked like Limbo. I was thoroughly entertained. The graphics were fun, and the gameplay was challenging. Although, it was exactly like Limbo -- too short! I've made games, and I know the hard part is getting the whole thing together, levels are simple to crank out. So please, crank out an update pack! :)
I like the eerie feeling of this game and the simple gameplay. Definitely worth it!
Love the whole limbo feeling of this game. The only bad thing is there is only twelve levels. I would really like to see this platform grow and become a good hit. You really have something good going on here, don't let it go to waste.
The game is good. Nice visuals, story and soundtrack. The controls, however, are terrible. A lot of times my character will jump back and land on something that will kill him due to the controls being jumbly and confusing. If they were fixed, it'd be a 5 star game for sure.
The game looked great on the store, I proceeded to buy it and to my dismay it doesn't start at all on Google's flagship phone. Disappointing QA process on Google's part as it crashes on start. This needs a quick update, otherwise it is an absolute waste of money.
I can't believe people are whining about short gameplay. Really for a buck, what more do you want? Have you finished all the levels with all the stars yet? If you want to play for all stars, the gameplay is challenging. Combine that with great artwork. Although, background music could have been better (after all, it is published by MTV). But that doesn't stop it from earning 5 stars.
Really like the gameplay, but it freezes up my DROID X constantly - have even had to pull the battery once. Never had this issue with another game or app. Too bad.
This game is primed for a much better storyline than they give it. Also the brevity of it was disappointing. However, while you're getting ramped up on playing this game well, you will die...a lot. 30 kills to pass a level seemed great after a while. The character could be a little stickier to objects, as it is, everything in that world is apparently slathered in grease as the character slides off everything. Having gears kill you on contact is ridiculous, adding logic to only kill when the gear would kill an actual being would have added a lot more to game play, and allowing gears to be used to navigate the world would have added even more enjoyment.
Although there are only 12 levels oscura is a tremendously fun game! This is a challenging game and you will die about 10-20 times each level. Very cool enviorments. This is a well made game and i am looking forward to more levels. Deffenatlly worth the money!
I've only played the first two levels, and I already love this game!!! Reminds me of the great 360 Arcade title "Limbo" and does the genre justice. The short length of the game is the ONLY thing keeping me from giving 5 stars. People complaining about poor and unresponsive controls should go play an easy title like "Angry Birds" BC the controls are fine.
An obvious labor of love here because most everything from level design (even if short) to stylistic visual elements are well crafted and work together give the player a good time and a challenge. Though on the top end of virtual controls done right Oscura does have a blemish or two but only one can't go unnoticed. First, the moments during the games initialization can freeze on some phones. The music is great but other sound design is out of place. Lack of replay/retry option is only true offense here.
The visual and sound design on this platformer really is wonderful and it's a joy to look at/listen to. The controls are simple and straightforward (though the inertia on your character is perhaps a bit woolly for my tastes) and never get in the way of the game itself. Finishing the twelve levels in the game isn't too challenging but it's obviously designed such that four starring all the level is the real challenge; something which is way beyond me personally as I can't even four star the first level! I'm still happy with the game though, 69p even to play through it once was well worthwhile and I'll probably go back and try to get a better rating on some of the levels later on. So, yeah, highly recommended all round!
