Nonogams, also known as pic-a-pix, paint by numbers puzzles, crucipixel, edel, figurepic, grafilogika, japanilaiset, karala, kare, logicolor, logigraphe, oekaki, pikurosu or ristikot, started appearing in Japanese puzzle magazines. Non Ishida published three picture grid puzzles in 1988 in Japan under the name of "Window Art Puzzles". Subsequently in 1990, James Dalgety in the UK invented the name Nonograms after Non Ishida, and The Sunday Telegraph started publishing them on a weekly basis.

In japanese nonograms the numbers are a form of discrete tomography that measures how many unbroken lines of filled-in squares there are in any given row or column. For example, a clue of "4 8 3" would mean there are sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, in that order, with at least one blank square between successive groups. To solve Japanese nonogram, one needs to determine which squares will be filled and which will be empty.
These nonograms are often black and white, describing a binary image, but they can also be colored. If colored, the number clues are also colored to indicate the color of the squares. In such crossword two differently colored numbers may have a space in between them. For example, a black four followed by a red two could mean four black boxes, some empty spaces, and two red boxes, or it could simply mean four black boxes followed immediately by two red ones.
Hanjie has no theoretical limit on size, and is not restricted to square layouts.

Griddlers were implemented by 1995 on hand held electronic toys in Japan. They were released with name Picross - Picture Crossword.

This is a great easy to use game. It has a wide variety of puzzles with varying degrees of difficulty. My only problem is that the developer does not add puzzles often enough. It has been almost 3 months since new puzzles have been added.

I've been playing this game daily for over 3 years now, it's simply perfect. Of all the nonogram apps, this easily has the best controls and interface, it's very simple to use and intuitive. Regular updates but normally by the time I finish I just go back at start at the beginning, the challenges always seem fresh.

My favorite game and the only one I've ever spent money on. I look forward to the added puzzles.

Such a great waste of time. Some puzzles are challenging and other are easy. It's nice for the switch up.

Puzzle #5.70 is titled "Boy" and is a blackfaced characture of a child. This is insanely racist and should be deleted immediately!

Guys, I love this game but I changed a setting and now I get dots instead of crosses for double tapping a colour. Please help me how to get my crosses back! :(

The app may be free but you have to watch a commercial for every stinking puzzle you want to play

I am very upset I love this app so much that I always download it and so I decided to pay for it but it will not let me connect to my paid account

Love it, but my OCD kicks off on "cube", can't have 2 Center Green/White sides, also can't have a Corner with Pink on two sides.

Should be for free but you have to pay in order to play all the puzzles or watch an add every time you want a new puzzle. Its not really free

Best nonogram game out there! Still getting updates with new puzzles several years after the original purchase.

The game is great, but it would be even better if the Ashigaru levels were unlocked at the beginning of the game.

This game is amazing. I play this one and the black one. You guys did great by having people watch videos to unlock puzzles. That shows that your more into letting your game players enjoy the game instead of making a tons of money off of them. One thing that sucks but doesn't take away from the game is that it does start taking forever to earn hints. I'm not.sure how to earn them like is it by puzzles completed or by squares touched? Anyways great game. I can play this game for hours on end.

Love this game so much that I purchased both premium versions of CrossMe! Only issue I take with it at the moment is that it's been so long since an update to add more puzzles! I've finished them all at least a couple weeks ago and I've had to turn to another puzzle app to get my time killing fix. So, mobile dynamix, gimmie more!

Y70%
by Y####:

It's fun doing these nonogrammes. And it's really addicting. There isn't only black or white, but it's colourful. However you have to watch annoying advt. or to buy full version.

X70%

I've been playing for awhile. Sadly the sync didn't quite work transferring to my new phone. Puzzles that were already unlocked, started and even finished games are all locked now. Starting from scratch. A little disappointing.

Y70%
by Y####:

Great game that's a fun time waster, but I wish there was a way to disable the "hint system" that crosses off the "guide-numbers" when you color in the required number of squares.

A70%
by A####:

I have reinstalled the app across 5 phones over 8 years. It is fun every time. And the developer adds new puzzles to each level every few months

Y70%
by Y####:

I wished there was an option to fill in via sliding your finger across the grid vs having to tap each square. Otherwise very cute game

M70%
by M####:

This is a great game to pass time or just for fun! Can easily be stopped/started. The controls and rules are intuitive.

L70%
by L####:

4.75 refuses to admit it is solved.

N70%

I would give a better review when it is fixed that it closes and restarts everything I have done...its getting to the point where I will uninstall...

Y70%
by Y####:

I would give it 5 stars but the videos to unlock EVERY level is overkill!

F70%

Very addictive and it challenges your self.
