About Scroggle
Scroggle is a word game that combines the playing style of
Boggle and the point scoring of Scrabble.
The player is presented with a 5x5 array of letters. Touch
the letters in sequence to form a word. The sequence of
touches must involve adjacent letters – adjacent
above, below, to the left, to the right or at any of the four
diagonal corners. In forming a word, each letter can be
touched only once.
Each letter has a point value. The score for each word is the
sum of the point values for the letters that were used. In addition,
bonus points are awarded based on the number of letters used
in the word. Finally, if any of the letters used has a red background,
the point value is doubled.
When the player presses OK, the game checks its dictionary to
determine if the letter combination is a valid word. If so, the
word is added to the players word list at the top of the screen.
The used letters are replaced by drawing randomly from a virtual
pouch of letters. One game of Scroggle uses a total of 100 letters.
At the top of the screen on both the left and right hand sides is
a series of 3 dots. Touch these dots to see the letters that remain
in the virtual pouch. Touch the dots again to return to your
word list.
When the number of letters remaining falls below 25 the
Scroggle board will have empty spaces. The goal is to use
all the letters to form valid words and clear the board. But
beware – only adjacent letters can be used in a word.
Individual letters that are stranded will not be useable (with
the exception of a, i, and o). Additional bonus points are
awarded to the final score if the board is cleared.
At the end of the game the player can enter a name. A list
of scores is maintained for each user. Touching the player’s
name in the upper right-hand corner of the screen shows
the availability of a Leader Board and an Achievements list.
The Leader Board shows high scores across all Scroggle
players. The Achievements list shows you various milestones
that you have reached while playing Scroggle.
