Vocabulary Builder

This app would be unstoppable IF you could first: 1. Hear the word 2. See the word in a sentence. I'm a big fan of context clues and it would help me remember the words I don't already know. Also, using context clues is a great tool to utilize in everyday life, so practicing it here would help start the habit for some. Being able to hear the word helps ensure you're pronouncing it correctly. What's the use in knowing the word if you can't say it properly?

The only reason why I installed this app was for me to get prepped with words that might come out in an admission test. Anyway, this vocabulary builder has helped me so much that learning the words gets really fun when you don't forget what it means afterwards. I could also play it whenever I got nothing else to do and unlock a new level. Hence, this is a very good vocabulary builder for me. Ps. This review is not paid lol.

I just took the GRE the other day, so I'm updating my review. I scored 166 (96th percentile) on the verbal portion, and this app played a role in my preparation for it. Results may vary, of course, and I usually perform quite well on these tests anyway. Nonetheless, there were many words here that I wasn't comfortable with prior to using the app, and that had changed by the time I took the test. If you want to build your vocabulary to prepare for the GRE, then this app is certainly worth your time.

This is a rare feat. I generally read the definition of the words only to forget them later. But not with this great app! Then why the 4 stars out of 5. Well, I've used oxford dictionary in the past and found that a few definitions on this app are not exactly accurate, though their usage is given correctly. But would still recommend it as it is one of the best vocab builder apps out there with a gaming feature as well. Loved that.

Excellent format. There's no frills. You pick the vocabulary you need to study based on your needs: GRE, SAT, or TOEFL. It's very convenient. My only criticism is that you pick between 3 different categories within each test : easy, moderate and advanced. Within each category, you start with 10 words, then it goes up to 100 words. That would be fine except that it's 100 different words. It's not like you had already learned 90 words and then you added 10 more at the end of each section. Bottom Line: simple, intuitive and convenient. However, the science behind helping you memorize words is not applied.

This app is a keeper! Educational! I enjoy learning new words and the meaning of the words. This is a good way to build up my vocabulary. This App has a great way of forcing my brain to learn words. I like how sentences are given so I have a better understanding of how a particular word is used. Another feature that I like is the auto pronunciation. There are some words that I'm not sure how to pronounce so that feature comes in real handy.

You'll love this. Great refresher for words we learned in school but may not often use. Great way to expand our vocabulary. I do agree the definitions are limited. Many words can be used in several ways. The limited definition does make for a great, quick, time killing app though. There's always the dictionary for a full definition of any confusing word.

After taking a practice GRE, it was painfully clear that I needed to improve my vocabulary! This app is fantastic so far. The GRE words are divided into 3 categories; basic, intermediate, and advanced. Each category is divided into separate levels - which makes it feel more like a game, while making the words easier to manage. I love that when you miss a word, you are given that word (at random) until you 'master' it. It seems so simple, but the app really helps you learn these new words super quick

I love the app and notice a change in my overall vocabulary. Great way to brush up my vocabulary and learn new words that I was not completely sure about the definition.. My only concern would be the lack of consistency with the sound and found myself using the web to see how the word is properly pronounce.. Please fix this slight problem.. Thanks for the great help

I am throughly enjoying this app. There are a few things that I think could be better. *broader definitions *fix the glitchy audio button *and I personally would like for that button to be available BEFORE answering the questions. As you might have noticed, I have a learning disability that causes spelling and reading to be an issue. But I Love building my vocabulary! All of this into consideration, the app still gets ☆☆☆☆ The parts that are great are just that great! Thanks app people.

As always, the only close to negative remark I can contribute is that I wish it had more vocabulary! Great layout, easy to comprehend, and easy to excel- you just have to try it! I am extremely impressed with the techniques used to help you actually learn and remember the words! It's not just a definition and multiple choice like similar ones I've explored through.

This app should be the new candy crush! It is so entertaining. I have always been an avid believer in the more knowledge the better. As a 16 year old with average vocabulary the words in the beginning are at a perfect challenging level and later on they get harder. the one thing they could add is maybe a test for every level? so the question's could be "what is (definition)?" and the answer choices are different words. I think that would test your knowledge of the level even more! Thank you Magoosh!

Its a great app to develop your vocabulary. I liked the concept on which the app is based on and its GUI is simple but effective too. It definitely ensures you learn the word. Couple of issues. The meaning of some words are quite usage specific so you are bound to be wrong there. In Samsung S6, the audio pronounciation does not work.

It is a good app. Good way to improve your vocabulary. A couple of issues I faced: 1. On many occasions the app does respond when I try to hear the pronunciation. However, if I click on "next word" button at the bottom, it smoothly goes over to the next word. 2. This happens rarely. The app does not register the option that I select while trying to identify the meaning of the word. Instead, it will register a different one and of course, the result is a wrong answer. Overall, It is a good app.

It's set up nicely, but once you get to the page where it gives you an example of how the word is used there is an speaker symbol next to the word, giving you the impression that they will play how the word is pronounced. It does not no matter where you touch or tap on that screen. I have checked settings, and there is nothing to turn on as well. I have the newest version and I have a connection to the internet.

As a retired school psychologist I believe that building vocabulary is important for all individuals. Also, as I am in my mid 70's and not engaged in daily mindful activities, it is important to rediscover meanings of forgotten words. I keep a written log of words that I do not comprehend and try to refer back to the list several times a week. I give the Vocabulary Builder a 5 Star rating.

I love studing with app and can study with a friend. I can challenge myself against other people. It gives examples letting me see how it's used in a sentence. The only reason why I gave four stars is, because the speaker that helps you see what the word sounds like barely works. When it does its perfect, but I hope you can fix the speaker button, and I'll definitely be using your other apps. Keep up the good work!!!

Been lookin for something to help me expand my vocabulary, and the words are awfully close to what you would expect from the SAT's. I believe it to be a very useful tool, maybe add a thesaurus function, and the speach pronounciation button doesn't always work, all in all 5 stars. Polish it up and it'll be a great app

I installed the App only a couple of days ago so I don't know all of the in's and out's of it. I had no difficulty navigating thru it so far so I certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. I hate to say it but I am fairly new to Apps-so I am discovering how fun they can be. Wanted to keep my brain stimulated and to expand my vocabulary. I knew a lot more words than I thought I would!

This app behaves as if you had a pile of flash cards in random order. Personally, I would prefer a comprehension in context method, where the word is presented in a sentence rather than by itself when prompted for a meaning. I'm finding that I can only recognize the answer rather than the meaning when I'm presented with the multiple choice options, which is not conducive to integration of vocabulary. I'd also love an option to search previously studied words rather than waiting for them to reappear in my quiz at random. That aside, this is an app worth trying.

The app is good but not excellent. It helps to remember the word but just word n particular meaning. That may after sometime forgotten. So please improve the app. Make it more interesting not just focus on particular meaning of word but make it visible, make it in a image. Focus on root word and most importantly in practice session it should come out different different types of meaning for better understanding. If the app will not improved then it just a time pass game.

This is actually one of the best things ever! English is not my first language (I'm actually a bulgarian teenage girl who lives abroad, in Spain) but I enjoy learning new words no matter what language are we talking about. I think vocabulary is a way to transmit knowledge and the more developed yours is the more intellectual you feel. So… that's it! Five stars for a totally useful (and, best of all, free) app.

I really like this app!! I'm learning new vocabulary every day, and it's very useful. But one thing... After the games with other people are over, it still looks like you are playing the game. It would be nice if you could make it visible that the game is over, which side won, and with a little statistics of it. I know but I'm asking for a lot,but otherwise it's great!! Thank you!

The reason for my rating is that I thought I knew allot if words then I played this game that had expanded my vocabulary in such a way that I can write my prayers for college with such an ease that I would recommend this game to everyone. Now the down side to this game is nothing even words you mastered or so you think they don't appear more than twice.

Very good selection of new words to learn. I wish there was a way to practice the words in the context of a sentence to practice putting the words into action. I'm wary that they'll just get logged into my brain but that I won't use them in my own speech or writing without that practice. Also, the definitions are short, which is useful for clarity, but doesn't show the full range of potential uses of each word. Overall, very happy I downloaded the app.

I'm studying for the GRE, which is to be taken in December and this app has definitely helped. They provide you with one word and different answer choices to choose from. If you don't get the word correct, it actually gives you another chance to master it before going to the next level. You can even challenge other users over the world just to test your knowledge even more. If you're studying for the GRE, please download this app!!

This is an awesome interestinng app to improve your vocabularies. Even though there are some other apps similar to this, this app has the random encounters, which helps me feel more engaged with other peoples company. Because of the little competition, I wish I could know more about the synonymous around the world. If the team could develop a feature to socialize this app, it would be wonderful. One more thing is that I wish I could exit this app with a shutdown button. Thank you for your great work, guys!

DISCLOSURE: I love the flashcards because: 1) You don't have to make them, which can take a lot of time. 2) The vocabulary list is accurate and relevant to the test. Having said that, I would appreciate if the developer allows to reset only one deck instead of the entire list. Also, I am confused on what does "Basic" "common" and "advanced" words mean? Aren't basic words common? I would like them if they explain why the decks are organized as they are.

It would be nice if the difiniton for some of the words could be a little more elaborate. Many definitions are simply one word that, in some cases, doesn't grasp the full meaning of the word. I understand that it's setup in a multiple choice fashion, so having a full definition for each option may not be practical, but maybe once you've chosen the word it could give you a fuller or more explanatory definition. Also; some of the pronouncations don't work.

This app has a desired features. I enjoy using this app to spend leisure time wisely. Especially , games to play with words has increased my level of confidence in vocabulary . I have been using this app for a few days. It refreshes your memory of previous words that you may have forgotten and acknowledges you of new words. Some of the pronunciation buttons do not work. Sometimes explanations/meanings of words appear uncommon.

There's a flaw on the way it links the words to its correspondent meanings, the sinonyms, 'cuz it is more linked to the meaning of the word given in the exemple than in a general way. The app should also be identifying if it is a noun, a verb an adjective... it would help a lot. Apart from that the app is very helpful and easy to use.

I started a few weeks ago, not expecting much but i'm glad I was wrong. Got more than what I expected. I love learning new words. Even words I thought I knew well now have a "lucid" meaning. My third grade teacher once said, people who curse is just lacy in their minds because they don't know how to express their emotions. Basic level is great introduction by the time you go to the next levels it's like a benching on a Netflix series you get addicted to it. Well done Magoosh!

This is a great game for word nerds like me! Intermediate level is just hard enough to be a challenge but the advanced level is tough - lots of unfamiliar words to learn. Love the head-to-head competition feature too. Hope I don't master the levels too soon, so please keep adding more words! I did wonder, why does the pronunciation feature not work on some words? Couldn't get it to work some times no matter how much I tried. . .

Great for those trying to improve their vocabulary either for writing, or just in conversation. A few words I never knew have already come up in movies, tv and day to day talk, like "paradoxical". So awesome to hear a word like that and fully understand what it means, and not looked confused. Highly recommended this app.

Really enjoying this app! I have only been using it for a few days and already see improvements in my vocabulary. Only drawback (and suggestion) is that the definitions should also include what part of speech the word is. It helps with understanding it's use and how you would use it to make a sentence. That is why I'm giving this 4/5 stars.

I love expanding my vocabulary, and this app is an amazing way to do it. Quick and easy interface and good repetition in teaching words I don't know. Love love it! One small negative though... have had trouble connecting with people to play a game with. Either it doesn't go through or they just never get around to playing their turn. Otherwise a fantastic app.

I rwally love this his apple game because it is the bomb .I'm not even in highschool yet but I'm obsessed with this game .It makes me fell smart.wgoever made this app I applaud you because youre making my life better every second d I'm playing g and reading . Just to say ,I won the spelling bee and have to compete again and I. Using this to study. If I win this app will be one of the reasons why.

This is a great program however , like all software, I believe there is room for improvement. So please... If you are taking requests for improvement, it would be very nice if an option was added for storing favorite words. Also, if the app could automatically add the words that one got incorrect to a master list. That would be really cool. So no offense to the designer and programmer as this is just some constructive criticism. Great app and definitely worth the download.

Hi Dev, Your app is really brilliant. There are a lot of repeated words which is used in 1 section earlier. Yes this helps in learning the same word but if it can be made to less repeat, just a suggestion. One thing that's most important is "The App is Super Brilliant" for those who love to be a wordsmith.

It is an amazing app. It hypnotizes you with a lust of getting more and more words. It has super rapidity as well just in an hour I ended up learning 70 words which initially I could do in a day. I irrefutably suggest to use app just for once and I am sure u will fall in love for it like I do. Just sometimes audio does not work but that can be taken care with restarting the app.
