Hoplite for Android
Returned the fleece on the second run. Required some thinking though, so its still cool. Love the mechanics! But i dont see the appeal of purchasing in order to unlock extra skills for making further descends viable. Everything past the fleece just seems to be arcade-style 'see how deep you can get', and that just seems pointless to me. Lacking content there, from my perspective.
The sheer amount of content and fun in this game is easily worth $10. The fact that you can have it all for less than three bucks is a gift that you should jump on right now. Just be careful when you're planning a move that you don't accidentally touch the screen....
Simple pixel art aesthetics, simple rules with tons of depth, huge replayability, highly addicting, no randomness, never nagged for money..what more to ask? You never feel cheated in this game, every death is your own fault, learning how to not die is natural and progressive. Nice challenges and achievements. Really. A great game, highly recommended.
It will need 1 or 2 minutes to even make a single turn if you are deep enough. Very challenging. But I think the price for premium is too expensive?
Best $3 i've spent. The first 16 levels are there to build your character, after that is where the game starts as far as i'm concerned. Go as far as you can. Hundreds of challenges. Achievements. Great gameplay. Worth every penny if you like strategy games.
Love the Game, Just the pay for the full game is annoying. Id be better if you you made to versions of the game. Example: This is the Demo, Lite Version Free (of course) And the pro, full version Not for free. Thats the only thing that bugs me.
I like the analytical strategy of the game, the different gameplay layout, & the random movement of the A.I. algerythyms. I have a minor issue with the user interface settings that seem to periodically faulter at times to where the character icon doesn't move until it's destination is touched 3 or more times and the enemy registers each touch as a move and attacks. It makes playing this game a pain to play. All in all, game is cool and can get better.
Why tf would I throw a spear at melee range. I'd stab the pixel archer… its a six foot spear thats 9 feet of range, plenty to poke a wizards sac of spell components lol other than that, me likes
Awesome strategy game. If you have to kill some time, this app is perfect. No pay to win and no random things. Just simple strategy. You can pay to get an extra game mode and more prayers which really is worth the money.
Good strategy game. You'll suckat first and die alot of times. But its the experience of the death that makes you a better player. All about positioning and strategizing. Not a hack n slash game. More on chess rpg kinda style
Amazing game. Very well designed, and we'll executed. Incredibly addictive. Only thing is I wish it had an unending mode, where you don't stop getting upgrades after level 15.
Nice time killer. Entertaining and engrossing. However i could make better progress if when i moved to attack my guy actually attacked instead of get hit.
Half rogue-lite, half puzzle, all fun! The full unlock provides tons of levels and challenges.
The first 16 levels were challenging and fun, but once I beat them it wasn't that fun to replay them. So it's a fun game but didn't keep my attention for long.
I liked this quite a bit. The game is challenging, and the variability in each level keeps things interesting. There aren't enough good strategy games out there, so good job to the developers!
Good game but it would be great if you could name the enemies something else. Because you know... "Demon" is a Christian supremacist construct and not everybody playing this game is a Christian. Thank you.
Could be better. Try to randomize the starts. And sometimes, the AI of the enemies is ridiculous, killing themselves Quite addictive game though
This is the type of game that defines "retro". It's challenging and to say the truth one of the best strategy-rp games I have ever played on android. The small size is just icing on the cake. Good Job Guys!
My favorite thing in a game app is good design and this one is tops -- I consider it the chess of Rogue-styled adventure. Had it for years and I still play frequently.
Simple to start, difficult to master. Rewards thinking and planning. Paid for version expands the game with challenges and skill unlocks - really worth paying for.
Great game! Really simple concepts but has great depth/replayability - it almost feels like a puzzle game or chess. I really like the challenge mode where you get to play around with all the upgrades that are too hard to get and in a nice short format so you don't waste too much time!
Good role-playing game with Google Play Game Features including Google Cloud Sync and good presentation, too bad no immersive full screen. Exemplary permissions (none).
Ce jeu est vraiment très bien, avec de simples graphismes et des cartes aléatoires ce qui rend ce jeu divertissement et addictif :)
The game is funny and well made but the premium version is disappointing. The game does not develop, there is no plot or general aim, just more scenarios and weapons. I hoped for more
Too many of us old gamers are exhausted sifting through all the multiplayer & pay-to-win games, when all we want sometimes is a good old fashioned challenge. Hoplite gets it done! The complexity & replayability are astounding, considering how basic Hoplite might appear at first glance! After an hour of pure enjoyment, I purchased the premium upgrade as a thanks to to developers. The added unlockable skills greatly vary the replayability, & I can't suggest highly enough.
Love Hoplite! Clever design with a steady difficulty curve. Occasional bug in the random level generator, where you or your spear are stranded if you run out of energy, but not a showstopper by any means. Free version is pretty much the complete game (with no ads or microtransactions), but happy to pay the premium for unlocking achievements and challenge mode.
This game might be the most playtime I've ever gotten out of ~$3. The game is tactical, creative, and fun. The achievements are meaningful and give a sense of advancement. The challenges are tough. Every move counts. It's simple, and it's great. This game is everything that I wanted out of a mobile strategy game.
It's a great strategy game! The tutorial needs a tiny expansion though. An explanation about the combat sequence would make world of difference for new players. Most people that give a bad rating don't understand the game's combat mechanics and you need to get used to it. My tip to make things easier: turn on fat finger mode in the opinions menu.
This is an example of a single-player mobile strategy game executed perfectly. It combines simple mechanics in a way that creates complex and satisfying gameplay. Because it's a rogue-like you have to master the mechanics and carefully choose your moves to succeed, rather than just memorizing an optimal path. I tip my cap to the developer for managing to produce a procedurally generated strategy game that never feels unfair; every death felt like a mistake on my part rather than being the victim of an impossible situation. If you like Fire Emblem, FF Tactics, Shining Force, etc., then this game is a must-play.
But seriously, could further explain how attacks work? I go to an adjacent space to an enemy but i dont get to attack? Really frustrating.
No annoying ads, and the game doesn't beg you to buy anything. It also reminds me of old games, where you restart your entire progress if you lose (no microtransactions to save/annoy you here).
Perfect game, a well designed roguelike and it is well worth upgrading to the full game, but even if you dont there is plenty of fun to be had. No ads, no microtransactions and a really solid game. How it should be done. Probably the only game on the play store I would give 5 stars to.
I got to the fleece on level 16 and then paid $3 to unlock more content. What I didn't realize was that this was pretty much it for the game. Pros: very solid mechanics, does a few things well rather than a lot poorly, portrait interface. Cons - once you get to the bottom of the dungeon, the only thing left is challenges which start to get old. At this point, the games limited mechanics turn from a strength into a weakness. Bottom line - solid game, download it, and consider the inapp purchase to supportDev
Brilliant, fun tactical game. No adds, and doesn't nag you to buy the paid version. This is how mobile games should be! The paid version is well worth the price. You get loads of challenges and achievements.
My only gripe is that it's sometimes hard to know what will happen between you, items (bombs, spears), and other entities (enemies) if you move to a certain square--the interactions or mechanics of things aren't always 100% clear. You do figure it out eventually, but I would appreciate an "encyclopedia" of mechanics/interactions that you could refer back to an any time. Other than that, this is a great game. Simple, creative, and challenging.

Worth trying. Complete tutorial within 3 min, and get hooked afterwhile. This is problem-solving merged with the satisfaction of killing demons.
If you switched apps while in the middle of a challenge, after some time you resume the game, you will lose access to your gifts. Things like wizard beam or leap slam would be most noticable.
Free till floor 16, but, why would you go premium if you can be crowned and live your days in glory? Screw further fighting!

Hoplite is my personal favourite in the store. It can be played forever, makes one think and yet it's pace is relaxed. Very light-weight and remembers game progress: perfect for playing whenever and for however long. Completely ad-free. Offers tons of content for free and blows one's mind with the quantity of additional content for a low-priced, single-time purchase. Well worth it! :)
