The Martian: Bring Him Home for Android
It's not a game as such, but its still fun and its highly addictive to play. Very buggy though. It keeps loosing how far I got and going back several places.
Would be a lot better if I could turn off notifications. Really annoying at 3 am.
This is a tie-in game done right! I spent the last three days eagerly checking my phone for updates from Mark Watney, anxiously waiting to hear back from him to see if my advice helped him and if he survived the latest thing Mars threw at him. I do have some issues, though, that I definitely would like to bring to the forefront: First - there should definitely be some warning for the fact that, when you mess up, Mark will message you as he dies. People who are sensitive to these things, or people with triggers revolving around suicide or death, please be careful when playing this game! The first time my bad advice got Mark killed, he texted me as he lost consciousness due to the Hab exploding, begging me for help. It was gut-wrenching and incredibly upsetting, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to rewind the game to a previous choice in order to undo mistakes. Second - the app sends you notifications telling you you have a new message from Mark, or an email from one of your NASA advisers, but sometimes these notifications are for messages that aren't there. Truly frustrating when you are emotionally invested in this game and worry for your astronaut friend.
Waiting time for avant's is to Long
Great game, just wish "Mark" responded faster
It won't start at all on my Samsung galaxy note 2. Am I entitled to a refund?
Love the story telling and the new style of game.
Fun
Please, please fix the notifications and duplicated messages because I keep getting told I have a new message and when I enter the game it duplicates the last choice I made with no new messages or choices. Thank you! Aside from this, the game is brilliant!
While the science is nice and Mark Watney is well written, the ending has the MAV inexplicably override Martinez and Mark dies no matter what you do. I've played and replayed a ridiculous number of times, and he literally dies no matter what happens. If you're just in it for the ride, have at it because everything else is excellent, just be aware that there isn't a "win" scenario.
So far this app works ok on my Galaxy s5. Lost a star for the time it takes for stuff to happen. Wish it were a game that you can sit down and play through. Instead it's more of a story, and it often takes Mark a while to respond. Still worth it for the price if you're a fan of the book/movie. Update: Lost another star because it keeps notifying me of a new message that just doesn't appear. Update 2: I finished the game and reset it. Now it keeps crashing on startup. Will try reinstalling.
It worked the first few days, then the app wouldn't start for weeks. With the hope of an update to fix the issue I waited but it was for nothing. I had to reinstall the app to get it working again and lost all my progress. I'm very disappointed. I recommend Lifeline instead, which never had any issues.
Pro: Lifeline's great concept combined with a lot more polish, the amazing Martian novel to back it up. The writing is pretty good, especially Mark's comments are in tune with how he behaves in the novel. / / / Cons: much too short, much too easy, and the events happen too quickly. Example: Mark tells you he's going to sleep, but instead of "sleeping" at least eight hours, his next message arrives only 20 minutes later. The whole timeline is extremely compressed, and so everything feels too artificial. / / / Issues: works fine on Note 4 with stock 5.1.1 COJ3 firmware, but crashes all the time on newer COK2 and POK1 firmwares (erasing all progress!).
I enjoyed this game quite a bit. I loved The Martian book and movie so the app just extended the pleasure. I did have some difficulty where the app would hang. Needed to restart my phone to fix the issue.
..not so well executed. Force closes and other bugs that keep you from progressing. Plz fix. UPDATE: game just reset itself, now i have to go through everything again?? -1 star. I'm at a point where I'd not recommend buying this. I love the idea and the movie but it's kind of unplayable like this :(
The app is very glitchy. Just like how it was on my Kindlefire thats with Amazon I know. So the app doesn't even open anymore. A screen pops up and said unfortunately the app has stopped working. I just recently watched the movie and all so I thought about giving this game another try. But of course nope. Doesn't work. I'll try again when I wake up or in a few hours. UPDATE: I tried it again. I get farther than i did before. But once i got to the point where Mark was all packed up and leaving, the app stopped working. The title screen would show up then this would pop up "Unfortunately, The Martian has stopped." and then close. I do enjoy the story. The greater detail of him going through the construction modifications and reading the personal emails and the movements where he absolutely loses it. I kept me thinking and on the edge of my seat. Good story and game mechanics but the app is very crappy.
It's not a game as such, but its still fun and its highly addictive to play.
I really enjoy playing it but now I can't even start the game anymore, keeps crashing every single time!
I loved playing it but the story randomly jumped back like 5 days and now I have to replay a bunch of it, which is very annoying.
When I first got this app it worked fine but now when I open it it goes to the title screen then a message pops up and says the martian has stopped working
Fun game. Seems to glitch up a lot. When it working, its fun.
If you've read the book and saw the movie as I did, you'll find both dramatically more interesting than this game. Personally, I'd give it a miss.
This game is great but the only down side is it crashes all ALL THE TIME
Could skip the wait time for messages and make it more interesting
Great fun now they have fixed the bugs.
Too often Mark Watney's response would be better suited to the choice I did not make.
Ending sucks
Feels like you're apart of the book/movie.
If you liked the movie you'll definitely like this!
Great game, just wish "Mark" responded faster
Finally was able to finish after update. Loved it.
Everything work perfect! Love it.
Perfect game for the movie
Short but entertaining.
Fun

Why do you need to load every full size image every time I open the list of emails? How can a text game work so slow and freeze? I am stuck at the ramp near MAV because the game's crashed and there is nothing I can do now. I see my last choice to go at 15 kph and new messages don't appear. Absolute disaster. Good thing your devs don't work on NASA software. PS Still stuck after the last update.
... Until it started crashing at the title screen EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. I try to open it. Galaxy S5. Please fix or patch. Cheers. *reply* thanks for response. Was already on latest version. Uninstalled then reinstalled. Working again now.
I love the game and the real time just makes it better but while Watney is busy why not give something to do like maybe a "live" view or something like that

This game is similar to my all time favorite series of games, Lifeline by 3 minute games. An interesting twist is that in this you need to look up answers to real scientific questions. Also, the time in which you respond matters. That's actually difficult and not something Lifeline enforces. Certainly worth a play while waiting for the next Lifeline game to come out. Failing in lifeline allows u to remind to any decision at anytime moving forward. This only lets u rewind 1 choice then u have to fail again.
