Gurk, the 8-bit RPG for Android
Retro-RPG Fans, a huge amount of gaming hours is what you're going to be offered to by these three simplistically subdued non-flashy RPG games.
The random encounters were spaced nicely and could be challenging. Liked the minimalistic/8-bit motif. The parts I didn't like include that it had no storyline (and no ending) and that it was short. But it was gratis, adfree, and the memory and disk space usage was miniscule, which are always plusses.
You don't need a tacked-on plot, you don't need a long tutorial, you just need three guys on an epic quest to find adventure! It's even got a turn-based tactics system instead of your usual move-picking static battle scene!
This game is an awesome throw back to the old NES days! It has a good battle system, a non-rigged Random Encounter Rate and I'm more than willing in throwing in the extra bucks for the sequels!
Had a D&D feel to it. Even had mindflayers! I would say what could be better, but I think they covered it, and then some, with Gurk II. I swear it alters time or something. Had no idea I just spent 2 hours "gurking out." I have to play Gurk II now!
...but soon you'll notice that you're doing exactly the same over and over again. No diversification at all. No story. And the slowest character regeneration ever. Success depends too much on luck then it does on tactical finesse.
Gurk was just the fix I was cravin'. Simple fun. Love powerin' up and junk. Only I didn't know I finished. I was just wandering around 'till I felt lost and figured it out with help from a walkthru. Otherwise Gurk was great. Will def be gettin' Gurk II and III.Thanks :)
I like the old-school simplicity of this game, but the interface is so clunky that it becomes frustrating just to do simple things like equipping gear. If the UI were better, I would play this a lot.
So much to explore, the variety of enemies and places, the extra strategy in the fighting segments... For what it is, it's a really really good RPG. One of the best on the Play Store for sure.
Classic graphics, easy game play, but still a bit challenging, unless of course you get lucky and find a bunch of upgraded weapons and armors on baddies or in the shops. Just wish it had some music and sound effects to match the classic look and feel.
Pretty fun. At first I thought it'd be repetitive, and then it turns out, I was right! But it's such a charmingly bad game, I just can't stop playing. I love it!
As an RPG fan, I was slightly skeptical of whether or not a retro game would disappoint. However, considering this factor, this game exceeded my original standards. Recommended for RPG game fans for sure!
I know its supposed to be old school styled, but its just very boring. It could use at least slightly better graphics for the land, with a cleaner menu. But still a good game.
Im a huge RPG fan and I spend hours playing this one. Just the map bug needs to be fixed...the wilderness map is half not visible.Huge addiction....lookin forward to Gurk 2....
Cant say enough how much I love this series, so I wont try. I'll just say that I highly recommend this game to anyone whom is a fan of old style rpgs. :)
This was a bit short and the story too simple. It played well, though, and led me to play through the next episodes.
Pretty decent old-school RPG with tactical turn-based combat. Well made for its time (it's a port of an old Nokia game), quite fun for fans of the genre but not very challenging. Would be delighted to see more such games on Android, they seem to be a bit of a rarity even though it works so well - for this reason, and for the fact it's a really cool game that is 100% free, I'm handing out a 5.

I was searching everywhere for a good RPG I got gurk 2 n 3 but I used a free store app sorry don't hate me, I won't name the app I used, because it would stop you from getting purchases I just have no money, but gurk 2 n 3 in the pics look improved a lot I haven't tried them yet, but Ik I'll like them, on gurk 3 people list a lag problem, but I usually don't get the problems people list, so I can't wait to try it, forgot to say, you guys should really make a gurk online, that would be amazing, price $3sugest
This game was cool at first but it's extremely repetitive and makes me lose my mind. It's not even hard it's only difficult because every step you take has a chance of being a battle so you're gonna lose a bit more and more health until you lose. I made it to the dragon lair and I give up. The constant random battles that you cannot run away and have to deal with and every fight lasts like 2 minutes makes this game the most boring and frustrating I've ever played. Not buying other gurks, bad.
The message "Gruk 2 is available" covers the button at the bottom. How can I play this? Works now in one plus.
Why did I have to scroll my games to find it again. Wanted to show it to my kid, give hime the same joy. Main screen frozen, though. Galaxy S5. Confident that it will be fixed, though. ;)

I dont know why but this game is addicting, I dont want to stop playing it! The only thing that it is missing is some 8-bit sounds and music. Other than that the game is great and I recommend it! Now I just have to buy 2 and 3!
I'd like to say thank you to the makers of Gurk! Never have 8 bits brought me so many hours of entertainment! I plan to buy 2 & 3 as I complete them. With a grand total of $3.05 for all 3 games I feel like I'm robbing you guys! And with the way I play I'll probably get at least 100 hours of fun out of them, that's 3.05 cents per hour. I've spent much more on much worse games. I love your "first time's free" marketing (Gurk 1 is free) and the absence of ads really makes you true gentlemen. Much respect!! :)
Played it, beat it, loved it, but there's no reason to play it again. Sadly.
Gameplay: 8/10. Storyline: 4/10 <-- there isn't one! Value: 5/5 it's free and there aren't any adds! GUI: 4/10 it doesn't fit with the game. Overall, a great game.
If you liked old skool RPGs then you will like Gurk. It is simple and can turn into a grind at times. The story is non existent so you basically just explore and find treasure. I see potential and I am looking forward to playing the sequels.
Amazing game, very fun and addictive but a bit fiddly. I love that their are No Ads!
It's free and fun to play. Great game to kill time. The only problem I have is that there is no ending but you can't complain much for a free game.
I downloaded not expecting much, but I was wrong. Behind the 8-bit graphics and clunky interface is a beautiful game with clever combat and thrilling dungeons. I beat the final boss at level 10 in four hours, and I still have dungeons to raid. I will definitely be picking up Gurk II and Gurk III.
Tiny file size, free and very engrossing. It is short and some buttons are badly positioned but I loved it.

I love these games SO MUCH. They are simple, old-school RPGs that improve through the series. The battle system is a little clunky in the first game, but it's very reminiscent of old console RPGs like FF1. (At least attacks aren't "ineffective! :P) Gurk 1 doesn't have much of a plot, but it's also FREE, and it scratches my RPG itch with something I can pick up and put down whenever.
Horrible UI, no story, no sound, minimal atmosphere, battles quickly get easy and boring. Art is ok. Solid gameplay mechanics, if uninspired, so it's still fun. It's free and tiny so if you're new to RPGs it's worth a play.
I'm very addicted. When I first installed it I played for an hour. It's a very fun game! I love how it doesn't use much battery like other apps.
Really gud I love the concept and style . it's very quick and loads fast and has multiple areas. I highly recommend this awesome game
Fantastic return of the game I loved as a kid. Would appreciate a better defined map on my tablet (my Galaxy Ace 2 shows a better map than my 2013 Nexus). Still love it though!
I love old school rpgs and this takes the cake, can't wait to get the other gurks!

Free, Ad free, rpg, acceptable permissions, not buggy. That alone puts Gurk ahead of some. The lack of story really hurts my motivation. I feel more like some kind of treasure hunting raider than a noble hero on a quest. The mechanics are fair. The skeleton icon makes me wish I had a necromancer with a party of skeletons and wraiths and what not instead of being the bone breaker. Maybe I'll feel differently if I complete it, maybe not.
