Taipan! Retro

There is another Taipan game that plays better than this one. If has the appearance down but the small use of the screen and not being able to see the hold and the controls make it akward play. I haven't seen any replies from the app developer.

But if u play it too long after a while becomes repetitive, its easy to gain so much money that this game cant handle the number of digits. alot of little bugs. Sometimes i tapped the wrong option. Also i accidentally double tapped buying guns, i brought 2x guns but my money became negative. And then it got stuck coz it kept saying i only have -174484 left, even when i enter 0, and tried what i can. No cancel button. i cant seem to borrow money too.

Great idea. Can you please make it easier to use on the new bigger phones. Also, a turbo button during battles would be great. Thanks

The screen is way to small. It only uses the upper left 1/4 of my screen!

Love this old game from apple IIe

Still need "throw cargo", attacking ships need to increase more than 10, never liked the robbing from warehouse but needs it back, needs the beeping sound when firing guns and being fired upon, doesn't show everything onscreen with recent phone updates. and needs the quick button to speed through attacks if choosing to do so.. good attempt at the original game but still has a way to go.

A return to the good old days when a game needed to have a solid basis without high end graphics. Played this on an Apple IIe way back, and it is great to play still. Thanks for porting it ☺

Needs some updates, which will make better

Wish it was full screen... I do like after a trillion the amount of money it states...

please shorten the ships attacking screen like to 3 seconds max. now it is waaaay too long. the taipan is being beaten and robbed off ... HOW CONVENIENT IS THIS .. the taipan is completely defenceless & cant afford to hire guards ?? in hong kong you can see li yuen, mc henry, & the moneylender only when u first arrived. not after that, no ... when u buy something u cannot see your hold, then always overload ..

I have played this back then with an Apple II for hours and hours. The gameplay does not perfectly duplicate the original, but an admirable effort nevertheless went into this. Here's to hoping to *any* update on this app.

There's a few bugs in the game. 1) When you deposit money in the bank, $1M in deposits became $1000 after I left the bank. 2) The randomness of you having your opium seized is way too high - in the original game, it was about 1 in 8 but in this game it is more like 1 out of 4. 3) The prices of the 4 goods move up or down in order. In the original game, a port might have opium be very high but have silk be cheap. This doesn't happen in this game

First off it has a few bugs - the biggest is that you can't see your ships hold when transferring cargo to /from the warehouse. The 10 ship cap for hostiles makes the game too easy. No warehouse fires, no storms and cheap ship repairs (combined with the fact that attacking ships don't seem to do enough damage later in the game) make it too easy. Small buttons and poor use of screen size. Fix these and 5 stars easy. Add leader board and I'd even pay.

Let me skip flavor text and speed up combat by ending delays with a tap like the original.

I played this wen it first came out...on the Apple computer...I loved it then and love it now. If I cud access the leader board and achievements. .u wud get a higher rating

Played this game constantly on my TRS80 with the cassette player. I think its the only app I ever used on it

This game is very close to the original game however the palm version was faster. This android version is very slow. Someone please copy the palm version.

Loved this game back in the day and was delighted to find this version. It is pretty well done and fun to play. Biggest issues have already been mentioned: Numbers interface, speed of fights (needs fight to death button), and overall ease of success. (You can tell the focus here is to show you more ads.)

This is really fun, however it is very easy. I find my self getting board. You will never fight more than 10 ships. My ship never went less than 99%

Why arrows to enter amounts? The up arrow doesn't work... 10 presses to get to number 1 erghhh

I lost many hours playing this in the Apple IIc days. This captures the original quite well--almost perfectly. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the phone-sized interface on my Zoom tablet and the lack off an option to buy/sell all--the interface is a bit clunky when selling large numbers or visiting the bank w a large deposit

The system of arrows used to select the amount of goods and money is very difficult to use. I was also dismayed to find out that this "Retro" version did not include the moneylender cheat of the original.

Needs work a little bit. I rarely meet pirates...

Now that I get further on, I come to find issues. Like the fact that I have 72 cannons and can only sink 2 out of 10 ships! Other than issues like these, it is a decent port of a classic.

I loved this game as a kid and now I can play it in the palm of my hand. The only thing I noticed missing is the threat of being searched by the authorities for possessing opium. Introducing difficulty level to increase the chance and number of ships to fight would be great. Thanks for the port!
