About Music Tutor (Sight Reading)

Learn to read sheet music and improve your sight-reading skills with Music Tutor. Develop your speed and accuracy in reading sheet music by identifying music notes in timed sessions. You can choose to practice between treble clef, bass clef or both for a duration of 1, 5 or 10 minutes. Music Tutor also helps with ear training and practicing your listening (aural) skills. During the practice session, every note is displayed along with the sound of the note (this feature can also be turned off if not necessary). After each test, you can review your mistakes and see your progress. There is also an option to set your difficulty level: The Easy level displays notes only the on the staff. The Intermediate level displays notes above and below 1 ledger line in addition to the stave lines. The advanced level displays notes above and below 3 ledger lines in addition to the stave lines. Music Tutor also supports Solfège (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si or Ti) and German note names.

Music Tutor also comes with a sheet music reference chart for treble and bass clefs that you can use to quickly grasp the name of all the notes.

Music Tutor comes integrated with Google Play Game Services. You can compare your points with that of your friends using leaderboards and see how you rank against other players worldwide. You can also earn new achievements as you progress in the game. With the latest update, you can play multiplayer sessions and your achievements now get recorded in your Google Plus profile!

Really great app for helping with learning to sight read. Does just as you'd expect. The progress tracker and achievement system (via Play Games account) help make a game of learning, giving you a target to aim for other than just improving sight reading skills. Previously I had said that the adverts and lack of a paid option costs this app the 5th start, but I've recently discovered you can get rid of ads by completing the included "quests". Once done the ads are gone so my review has been updated to 5. Literally no downside here, great app.

App is really nice great because it turns your studying notes into an actual game almost! I wish there was a way to make the ads go away, though. I can't stand them and would pay for this app in a heartbeat. Please give some option for people to remove the ads!!

The game aesthetically designed, simple to get, and very useful. A few suggestions though:- 1. Allow the option for landscape vs portrait use; 2. Allow option to toggle between the letter notes and piano keys; and 3. Allow option to toggle duration of sounds. Lastly, I don't know if it's an issue with my phone or the game, but the low A on Bass clef doesn't play haha.

Fantastic app. Been playing bass for around 12 years with multiple attempts to learn to sight read. This app has made my latest attempt a lot more successful. Being able to track your progress makes learning bizarrely addictive. Essential for all learning the clefs, regardless of experience.

Yeah great concept. I'm wondering how much the maker knows.... I don't know if it was autocorrect or if you really meant to call a staff a stave. The bass reference is my favorite because I am a treble player and it helps with piano

DEVS PLZ READ!! It has lots of potential. Add key signatures that you have to name along with note, make a keyboard option at bottom instead of note names, add chords(in solid and melodic form) option with major, minor, dimished, dominant, arpeggios & scales(for minor scales you have to state if it's melodic or harmonic), etc. All of these that you have to state what it is and the key. For higher difficulty add degree, position, etc. Right now it's just an app for beginners to learn note names, not really beneficial for advanced pianists. I like the multiplayer option though. :)

You know what would make it even better ? If it could take answer in the form of actual sound input from instrument that im using. You just have to analyze the frequency. Its not that difficult of a feature to implement probably. I hope it comes. Me inputing answer from the piano on display doesnt corelate to me actually learning to play that note on my instrument on sight. Thanks!

Great app to practice, but please give me a way to remove the ads. They now stop me from using the app for a longer time, as it's really annoying if the same ad keeps popping up fullscreen.

I like this app. It's a good way to practice Grand Staff because it switches back and forth between treble and bass. My only complaint is the input acknowledged tone. I don't like it and I can't seem to turn it off without also turning off the note sound.

U70%
by U####:

Perfect app for sight reading they should add instead of notes piano keys with blank keys for piano players! And the quests can get you an ad free version for free as long as you get the required score in a certain amount of time

Z70%
by Z####:

Good but too many intrusive ads. At times they get in the way of trying to use the phone or leave the app because of where they are placed on screen - there's one that is where I expect the home and back buttons to be, and it's not clear how to leave when that ad is there.

by Y####:

This app does exactly what it says it will do. You can personalize the difficulty and it even keeps track of your progress. I love it! My only complaint is that even when you disable the sharps and flats, they will still appear as options on the test, and accidentally taping them screw up my score.

O70%
by O####:

This app is ok for what it does, but I would recommend the app to recognize which notes the user tends to mess up on the most based on their custom settings. F's and G's are usually where I struggle the most with, and I would love it if it targeted those notes for me. Otherwise its a good shotgun method for beginners to start practicing.

Q70%
by Q####:

The problem with sight-reading apps is that they focus soley on note pitches and no rythms. The rythm (or the note values) of a piece of music is as important as the pitch.

U70%
by U####:

I only wish that when it tells you your mistakes it would say how to fix it or how it might be wrong

My english is not very good, nonetheless this app is very very useful to learn and read music note. Its very good for kids and even more. I am a piano teacher and i say again that, this app is awesome. Excellent ????????????... ❤

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this game is ADDICTING. I got this app to teach myself bass clef notes for a jazz ensemble. I wouldn't really consider myself a music nerd, but it's actually fun! It gives you quests, you can track your progress, and you can earn achievements if you connect your Google play games account. Very fun and very good at teaching music notation!

U70%
by U####:

For piano, a very linear instrument, this app is confusing and possibly teach bad habits. Higher note buttons sometimes below lower note answer buttons since there is only one button for each note family. For instance, C in all octaves uses the same button. Thus, the middle G button is above both middle C (correct) and high C (incorrect).

I don't usually comment right after I install an app. But just had to this time. Tried it out one time and you get 5 stars. Very very helpful in learning notes and reading notes. Love it.

The trainer is really good, however I wish you could choose between doing the time challenges on just bass clef or just treble. That would really help improve my learning.

A70%

Very effective but sometimes have trouble with finding the note on the dashboard once I've figured out witch one it is. I wish there was a flashcard feature where you could truly go at your own pace with out having fiddle around with all of the buttons or worrying about your score

A70%
by A####:

As stone already knowledgeable of music theory, this is great for practice.i do however find it to mostly test you on the notes either way above or way below the upper line (F and lower line (E). It would be great if a version for piano chords could be added/made,as this is a perfect way to practice it.

I have played trumpet for years and am proficient in the treble clef. I select the correct note and it tells me I'm wrong. How can I trust the bass clef accuracy of the treble is not correct?

C70%

Very quick reading skills improvements. Factor to multiply the difficulty level in the final score is missing. Give us some challenges please!

It's great, just wish it had a few additions like choosing the key. Or even the range. But besides that, very cool app. I'm planing on using this to get me back into sight reading. This will become a daily app for me.

Q70%

This app is for people who already know how to read music, to help them read faster. If your just trying to learn how to read it a terrible app for that.

Very good, you can turn the volume on silent, look and go over your mistakes. It's great for improving your sight reading.

GREAT app! Simple and effective. Thank you! Would love an option to focus on specific range of notes which people may have more trouble with.

As someone who struggles with learning notation, I found this really helped me get to grips with sight reading

I played cello for 3 years now, and I found out I am not a fast note reader. But this app will help. Shame for the ads

O70%

This app helped me to better understand how to quickly read notes. I noticed improvement within an hour of playing. Really cool. I've been a musician for ever, but have never been able to read a note of sheet music. I just didn't get it. Now with this app I'm really getting an understanding for how it works. I use this app and a music theory app. They're great together. l Highly recommend it. Suggestion: Add a mode with sound only and no illustrations. With the same view mistake option at the end.

After a certain number of games(not a very high number~100-200s), the score graph doesn't show up and just simply disappears. This is observed in an android phone.

D70%
by D####:

It was good as a starting point but once and awhile it would give me a note that was neither sharp or flat and would mark it wrong and when I checked my mistakes at the end of the session they were all sharps or flats that were issues and I am positive that the note did not have a sharp or flat next to it on the scale. It may just be on my phone but if not hopefully they will fix that on the next update as I like the app.

D70%
by D####:

Immediately found the ads at the bottom distracting and the full screen advert that popped up was jarring and broke the flow. The app itself is great so if you can deal with them you've found yourself a great tool. There is a place to put a promo code that I presume would remove the ads(?) but I have no idea how to get one! Would consider paying for this.

D70%
by D####:

Graph after game should be separated by time and difficulty. This would help to measure improvement properly. Score should take into account difficulty settings. It's either a tool to get better or a game. It's sort of halfway between the two.

T70%
by T####:

It's a great app for learning. The only thing I miss is keyboard instead of score names. It would be more helpful to learn that way as it's more natural in reading music sheets than decoding it to score name first.

Incredible how quick this little play game is helping me improve my reading skills. I wish it had a factor to multiply the difficulty level in the final score.

As a flute player, flute notes are the same as bass and whenever I get the right note it marks me wrong. I've been in band for 7 years and this app makes me look like a 4th grader again. Strongly don't recommend it if you want your child or yourself to play the wrong notes
