About The Raventhal (IceBlink RPG)

The Raventhal (an IceBlink Engine RPG)

Turn-based computer role playing game (RPG) with a wonderfully crafted story. Implements some classic old-school computer RPG style and also includes great 8-bit music created by Pongo.

Story, music and most artwork by Pongo
IceBlink Engine and port to Android by slowdive_fan (aka me)

Features:
- designed for phones, but scales well on tablets (I have a galaxy tab 3 8").
- totally FREE with NO ads and NO in-app purchase stuff.
- turn based combat similar in style to the SSI Gold Box games.
- great RPG story telling conversation system.
- RPG offline and single player (you control all party members) game.
- multiple companions can join your party.
- 8-bit retro music by Pongo.
- lots of replayability (is that a word?).
- three races, four classes and many spells to choose from.
- multiple saves available (save often).
- lots of items to find and wield.
- A short story (2-4 hours) with great pace and no fluff.

The Raventhal (IceBlink RPG) description by Pongo:
"You went fishing, capsized, and wake up cold and wet in the Raventhal, a forest with a very sinister reputation. Your one objective is to get out of the forest and return back to your village. How hard can it be...!?
There's quite a bit of combat, but a big focus on the module is party interaction and story. You start off on your own, but you'll soon find other characters who may join you if you choose. The NPCs are a colourful bunch who talk amongst themselves, disagree with your decisions, and (occasionally) do something useful. Of course, you can always decide just to ignore them all and play solo."

Progress Reporting Feature:
A fun new way to share your play through experience with others. There is a toggle button on the main map screen labeled "PR" (bottom right toggle button). Pressing this button will turn Progress Reporting on and off. If you do not wish to share your play through experience, no problem, just turn off Progress Reporting. If you do wish to share, leave the "PR" button on. If Progress Reporting is on, then at a number of milestone events, it will send your party's current stats to our Google Analytics Dashboard. I will post the listings of Progress Reports to our forums (see our website link below) for others to share in the experience. No personally identifiable information is collected, just information about your party. The tag that will separate your Progress Report from others is your main PC's name. We are excited to see how others are enjoying our adventure stories so we hope you enjoy this new feature as well.

The Raventhal was originally Created by Pongo for the IceBlink Engine (IB). I ported the engine to Android and worked with Pongo to convert The Raventhal as the first adventure module conversion to Android. The IceBlink Engine is inspired by some of my favorite cRPGs (many being old retro style RPGs) such as the SSI Gold Box Games, original Bard's Tale, Ultima, and the Infinity Engine games (like Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale...definitely check out Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition and Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition by Beamdog now on Android, Yeah! ...I own way too many versions of the Infinity Engine games now, haha) and my 6+ years of experience with building adventure modules in Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2.

Well done, fun little throwback to old SSI style. Too short. Decent writing. One problem is that without resting, survival is about resource(potion) management. As wizards are SP dependent, this hampers their abilities severely. Weapon and item placement are a bit random and key to success(and why a Katana?!?). Fun little game though, and gives promise to future games/modules.

Really Fun game, loved the storyline, would liked to be able to hold the buttons down and move automatically instead of tapping a billion times to get around the map. I found the map got too dark when emulating night. I'm thinking instead of making it so dark, maybe keep the brightness and use a moon symbol instead? Or not make it so dark. Also, was there a way to revive dead characters? If so, I couldn't figure it out. Hope to see more chapters, great game!

It seems very fun... but I can see none of this 'balance'!! A very difficult game, with hard combats, no way to heal, and no way to level up beforehand.... a couple of items around, but nothing world-shattering.. it could also remember your settings, instead of having to turn onoff everything, every time...

C70%
by C####:

A few bugs - I can't use items for any class of character. Items seem redundant. It's just me though. I must be doing something wrong. It's fun anyway.

E70%
by E####:

This is a fun time-waster. Various alignments to follow and engrossing. You can beat the game in about hour or two... And then try a new hero and make new choices. This game would be even better with new maps to explore and new items to collect.

C70%
by C####:

HELP! I seem to be the only one having this problem (can't find any comments about it)... despite trying to get my characters to use different weapons and armor before, during, or after combat, I can't do it. The only thing I can successfully use is healing potion. What am I doing wrong?

C70%
by C####:

Fun, helps pass time. The player can tell they actually spent some time and thought on the characters and storyline. Recommend it. Watch out for the Troll!

C70%
by C####:

Playing thief, how do yiu use skills like stealth mode or pickpocket?! Not showing up in combat for sneak attack

G70%
by G####:

I got very involved in it, was so sad that I can't play more, but great story and fun game play nevertheless. Really highlights the fun points of D&D.

A70%
by A####:

I enjoyed the story and the gameplay was fun and easy. I do wish there were options to short rest and camp for the night to recover hp and sp between encounters.

C70%
by C####:

The game has decent pace, but is a bit rough around the edges. Especially in the beginning area

K70%
by K####:

Blatant rip off of many of the artwork, but makes for a great challenging game. Good writing, classic d20 stat and combat rules.

2nd Game from these creators and i am addicted. I cant put it down, just having too much fun :-)

C70%
by C####:

A fun little adventure for fans of classic RPGs. It's a very lo-fi project, but there is some fun writing and a nice little adventure to be had. It won't take you long to finish. With a little tighter writing and some cleaner art, I would enjoy seeing it expanded into a longer game.

C70%
by C####:

No matter when it's played, it's a great classic 8bit PC retro RPG. Well balanced and pushes the brains to strategy and survival to the limits! Loved! And yes, has replayability, that is a word, in fact.

C70%
by C####:

Enjoyable romp thru the evil forest. Nowhere to rest but enough treasure to survive all enemies...

Y70%

This app is fun and quite hard to finish. Whenbit finshes i wish it was longer. Haha i won't reply it because it's basically the same thing but it was fun while it lasted.

C70%
by C####:

Really enjoyed it, the characterizations are really good, background storytelling feels natural and the comedy sides aren't bad at all, it brings smile on my face, sadly it's too short. Any chance for the continuation story?

C70%
by C####:

Loved these types of games growing up and while short the story is really well written and I felt myself drawn into the game with good characters which are well scripted. Would love to see more of these types of games, great fun !

C70%
by C####:

This game was super fun and I would play the sequels if they came out.

C70%
by C####:

It was hard to begin to play with my own character and not that Havfel, and to delete unnecessary characters (in Files), but now it's OK.

C70%
by C####:

Good game. A little confusing to begin.

J70%

A lot of time devoted to storytelling with classic RPG gameplay, as has been the case with all Bree Arts games so far. If you liked the old Gold Box and Silver Box D&D games on DOS, you'll enjoy these.

F70%
by F####:

Decent game like the old AD&D/Forgotten Realms series by SSI. Could use some dialogue editing, also no point for the experience tables going to level 8.

G70%
by G####:

This is a fun game. It isn't overly difficult but you do need to think carefully about the moves you make. If you like old school RPGs, you should give this a try!

C70%

This was a great game but a little short . It would be a great thing if you would create part 2 of this game .

Not enough potions and could have make Balthak turn good .

V70%
by V####:

Very fun and engaging little adventure with gameplay and mechanics reminiscent of the old Black Isle PC games (e.g. Baldur's Gate). Only complaints are that the story text is badly in need of some proofreading, and the game is too short - it's disappointing that it ends so soon!

H70%
by H####:

Obviously copying some things from ADND, but it's not annoying. And skipping battles if you aren't ingested in is a really great feature) But I miss loading save game without application restart. And I wish I had an ability to reverse order of actions in the battle: attack and then move if I wanted so. Also, how to remove created characters? )

T70%
by T####:

A little short. At first I was a little bit annoyed to not be able to rest... but it's well balanced so no need to anyway

Reminds me of my childhood, games like Baldur's Gate and DKoK. Kudos to devs.

This was amazing from start to finish. I played with every character, did every chat option and it was an incredible game. I don't even mind that its story was short. It was awesome. Great game!

T70%

Fun, needs some more character design depth. Maybe add a map feature?

T70%

Intelligent, fun game with a gentle sense of humour and potential to be epic if the dev decides to expand it (hoping). Love games like this and wish they would go on for weeks and weeks getting more and more immersive.

Reminded me of the classic RPG games of old. Great story and characters.

Starts off a little weak but finished strong! Definitely some replayability here as some choices are mutually exclusive.
