About SYNC
WHAT IS SYNC?
SYNC is an arcade mobile game which simulates the view of a person having a mental illness. It helps players to open their curiosity about mental illnesses and also empathize with people who are mentally challenged. It has three game modes derived by common mental disorders.
• Schizophrenia refers to dissociation to reality. The player needs to spot all hallucinations it may encounter.
• Anxiety Disorder conveys irrational fear. The player needs to look for items in dark and scary rooms.
• Parkinson’s Disease is a brain degeneration that causes involuntary tremors. The player must balance a glass of water on tray and prevent it from spilling.
There are series of levels to explore. Every completion of level advances to the next one. To enhance the players engagement to the game, there is a shop to buy power-ups and high scores to make their way to the top. Save and load progress with multi-user feature so more people can experience the game.
WHAT INSPIRED US?
In 2010 national census, over 200,000 Filipinos had mental illnesses and they are often overlooked by the society due to ignorance and prejudice. The stigma of mental illness remains pervasive in our cultture. Such as people who have mental illnesses are mostly ridiculed while some people uses mental illness to insult someone.
WHAT WE AIM FOR?
We aim to spread awareness by creating a game that will simulate particular scenes of a person with a specific mental illness. There is not enough awareness campaigns for mental illnesses and we wanted to create another voice for the cause. In a whole, we wanted to put a purpose into a mobile game and aim it at a higher level: to raise awareness and have people talk about mental illnesses and the importance of mental health.
